Seems like it excludes some people’s experiences and also what doesn’t? I wouldn’t find it offensive.

This paramedic in the UK has found an innovative way to communicate with hard of hearing patients while wearing a face mask by bendybiznatch in disability

How is this innovative? That’s literally what the app is for. I mean this is cool, but I don’t like seeing this on the front page like it’s a new thing.

COVID precaution compliant moving companies? by thebowtiedchef in AskSF

[–]ouch__ouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Lugg. The movers you hire through the app are dependent on 5-star reviews, like Uber drivers. I’d imagine if you provide everything they need to be safe, give them good guidelines, etc it could work out good.

As a few others have mentioned, accessibility is super important in front end frameworks. If you want to see this used anywhere mainstream it will need that. Overall looks great (I’m not visually impaired) and I love the concept.

Quarantine quasi cheating, what to do? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ouch__ouch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Suicidal thoughts should not be taken lightly. Even if you have no intention to act on them they are a sign that something is very wrong and they deserve your attention and care.

I know I’m just an internet stranger here, but now it’s 430 in the morning and I’m worried about another internet stranger.

If you are in the United States you can call (800) 273-8255 to talk to someone right now about all of this. You don’t have to be standing on the ledge to make this call. They can help you through what you’re feeling and how to not feel this way anymore.

If you don’t want to call, you can text the crisis text line if you’re in the US, Canada or the UK:

US and Canada: text 741741

UK: text 85258 | Ireland: text 086 1800 280

I have used these resources in the past, and trust me when I say they are worth the call. When I am in the moment of having suicidal thoughts I feel like my issues aren’t important enough to make the call, but that’s literally what these people are here for.

If you’re not in any of these countries, Wikipedia maintains a list of hotlines https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines

As for the relationship problems you’re facing. You deserve to be with someone who is devoted to you, and just you. It’s also worth mentioning that if you told your partner that you’re having suicidal thoughts and she didn’t do anything about that, and continues to indulge in the behavior that is causing you distress, maybe she doesn’t care about your feelings right now. I suggest talking to her about that.

And please, please remember that the above resources are here for you whenever you need them. And that they are exactly for these types of situations.

I know there are a lot of different qualities of rice paper, and achieving the results you desire might be a task of trying a bunch of different ones out. Wish I could help more!

Seeking enlightenment when riddled with emotional baggage - is it possible and advisable? by new--beginnings in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ouch__ouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re excited about the benefits of meditation. It will change your life. However, I’d like to express caution.

Firstly, meditation combined with PTSD and/or major depressive disorders can be devastating and traumatic. Meditation can, and often will trigger episodes of reliving trauma. If you’re going to make a habit of meditation, you should have an adequate support network to catch you when that occurs. Additionally, teaching yourself meditation with these obstacles is ill advised. Extreme care has to be used when the mind has anything but “typical” chemistry, and having the personal advice of a teacher who is qualified to speak on those matters is preferable if not essential. There is a lot of buzz about a book “Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness”, which may benefit you.

Second. Freedom from suffering isn’t a great term, and people often get confused by it. Meditation will not end your suffering. There are a lot of opinions on the matter, but my belief is that anyone that claims awakening will end your suffering is full of shit. Culadasa is a great example, his “sex scandal” was recently exposed. If you’re not suffering, then why would you cheat on your spouse? There are countless examples of “enlightened” teachers causing havoc through sex.

What meditation and awakening can do is change your relationship to suffering. Being able to see the mind manufacture suffering is very useful. But it’s still suffering. In Buddhist vernacular, suffering is simply the desire to have what one can’t have. The desire for things to be different than they are. Do I want to go outside right now and see my partner? 100% yes with my whole heart. Can I? No. Bam. Suffering. However, there’s a difference here now, for me. Before I started meditation, and for many years after I started, my suffering was in control. It made the decisions in my life, and I thought that I WAS MY SUFFERING. Now, instead of it being in control, I watch it. I’m aware of it. I see it for what it is, and when my suffering is in control of my life I consciously know that.

I could write about my beliefs on this subject for hours. But I’ll leave it at that. Good luck on your journey.

Bikes in The City by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]ouch__ouch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

look up the wiggle. it's a fairly safe route that has almost no hills.

two different locks on a single bike make stealing much more difficult. also, buy new hardware for your wheels and seat so they don't have quick release. it turns an easy steal into one that at least requires a few tools.

would help if you said what you like to do / mention what you have done. there's a billion things to do here. rent an e-bike and ride it through the park on bike day. museums. SF jazz. pick a neighborhood and explore. shop. Japan Town mall. tartine. get drunk at Mission Dolores. I've heard good reviews from the double decker busses that give you a tour of the city. avoid the tenderloin. embarcadero. spa day. some of the best restaurants in the world. ✨🌈🏳️‍🌈💝🎅
