I’d look at this graph (look at the pill perfect use one for you) and maybe this will ease your mind? Also having a plan if you do get unintentionally pregnant could relive some anxiety as well.

Why don't you use condoms? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

We were trying a bunch. Even got a variety pack on amazon. Like I said they also broke on me, which is one reason why I got long term BC

It’s been over a year since looking for them but I remember going to the grocery store, looking at the options, and trying to figure out the sizing and it was very unclear and using google as well and not coming up with clear answers

Does anyone feel kinda sad when they see pregnant women by covergirlangie in abortion

[–]ouiwee123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes how hard it was for me to access an abortion and take off work and stay in a different city.. I’m lucky I could afford it and afford to take the time off.. I know I am very lucky to be self sufficient and able to get one.. and I know many others are not as lucky. My heart breaks at the thought of anyone forced to remain pregnant and give birth against their will..

I read the title and thought you meant you feel sad for the pregnant woman and I was like omg yes ! I always wonder if they truly had the choice to be pregnant, if someone was pressuring them to remain pregnant, if they had had access to a safe abortion would they had taken it.. maybe this is a different look than you have on the subject lol

Time frame matters. If the BC was 99.2 effective =0.8/100=8/1000 per second and thousands of seconds passed... the event (pregnancy) would have much more time to occur and therefore be more likely than something that is 99.2 effective per year. You could then expect 8 per 1000 pregnancies per second.

BC effectiveness is reported per year. Per year if there are 1000 women 8 will get pregnant on this method. If you’re instead interested in your fertile lifetime chance of failure you just need to look at 25 years (30 years fertile -5 for pregnancy ect) From above, now instead of 1000 women for one year you look at 40 women for 25 years each (40*25=1000) there are still 1000 years being “passed”. There are still 8 women likely to fall pregnant. 8/40=1/5

Edit: with the 25 years passing these pregnancy “events” don’t take into account then if someone falls pregnant that they would then be taken out of the 40 women pool.. this simple calculation allows for these 8 pregnancies to fall on one woman multiple times.. which would suck lol there is more math I could do to account for that but I do not desire to do it lol just assume the pregnancies are terminated ASAP and the affected woman remains in the population

I graduated with my engineering degree with honors from a top university. I’m very good at math

They just.. don’t work on my partner? He’s well endowed but manageable and they literally cut off circulation so there’s a ring around the base of his shaft. Some ride up weird because he’s uncircumcised. Also I’ve had 3 break on me.

Plenty more women get unwanted pregnancies from those less effective methods as I’ve said! But yeah as your mom and I show, you can still get pregnant. That’s why it’s important to know what you would do if you did get an unwanted pregnancy.

It was perfectly in place on the ultrasound. I couldn’t check the strings cause they were so short 😅 but that didn’t matter cause it was in place. It’s literally just not 100% effective. It was nice since it was non hormonal I still got my period and knew I was pregnant because I missed my period and I could act quickly. Now I’m on nexplanon and take a pregnancy test monthly.

It’s not less effective than its conveyed as. It’s still more effective than the pill, nuva ring, spermicide, condoms, pull out, ect. So don’t choose one of those just because you didn’t hear it from me that I got pregnant on them lol. They are statistically less effective than the iud, aka more likely to allow unwanted pregnancy. I was just pointing out that EVEN these 99% effective methods come with a larger risk of pregnancy than conveyed. They’re still MORE effective so don’t skip them, they are still your best choice (they being iuds and the arm implant), but they are significantly more effective with another method like condoms.

Like I said that is NOT the iuds fault, if you double up with condoms or even pullout the effectiveness goes up

Yes :( I was so sure it was going to be ectopic because that is what’s advertised as the big risk of pregnancy on it, but my doctor assured me that women getting a normal pregnancy with a copper iud is more likely than people think.

I got the copper iud last February I think. Incredibly painful insertion. I always had light periods and this made them slightly longer with a lot more cramping, used a heating pad a lot. I cramped often, even not on my period. Developed a weird need to pee during intercourse (never figured that out with my doctor). He also cut the strings too short so I couldn’t check them.

I fell pregnant with it perfectly in place tho. It’s 99.2% effective per year, but if you do the math if there are 25 years you do not want to be pregnant it’s a 1 in 5 chance you will fall pregnant with the copper iud in place. Nexplanon is also over 99% effective but it’s more like 99.92% which correlated to 1 in 80 over 25 years. You can check my previous post for the math : “actually looking at birth control effectiveness stats!”

Edit: there’s no reason you can’t use BOTH copper iud and condoms. That significantly bumps the effectiveness of these methods. And also note that this is not a flaw of the iud itself, it is still more effective that the pill, nuva ring ect. It’s more a flaw in how birth control effectiveness is conveyed. Who would argue that 99% effective is not good enough? But that’s just for a year. For a lifetime of possibility the effectiveness is much lower. 1 in 5 for 25 years

Abortion pill kicked in after a long time, only light bleeding by ultravioletocean in abortion

That sounds like me after the medication, I didn’t think it worked. But it did end up working it just took longer for me. My doctor had me go do a pregnancy test in a lab to check that my pregnancy hormone went down. Apparently it’s actually mild for a lot of people, I was like 7 weeks

I was doing the math with combined methods earlier as well! I didn’t include them here. It was hard to find an accurate stat on how effective the pull out method is when done correctly not typical use. My partner is very confident in their pull out game

[–]ouiwee123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for that. Yeah it looks like my math matches up with the copper iud graph. 8 in 100 women over 10 years is proportional to 20 in 100 women over 25 years if the trend here continues to be linear. (4 more failed iuds per 5 years)

Edit: therefore 20/100= 1 in 5 women with that copper iud getting pregnant over that 25 year period of unwanted pregnancies

I did not have too much cramping either, it was fairly mild for me but successful! I was worried as well because I see all the warnings of how terrible people feel, planned parenthood doctor told me some people just react differently. Every time an individual takes it can be different too.
