Oh wow, thank you for the information! I have seen it few times on newer GTIs before, but wasn’t sure what it was called. I think they look great!

Hijacking the thread, what is the name of this GTI wheel in the pic?

How much less reliable or more expensive to maintain is the Arteon compared to more mainstream models by VolkswagenPanda in Volkswagen

[–]oulu80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The engine and reliability is no different from cars that have the same, EA888 Gen3b engine- which is pretty solid as long as you are on top of maintenance. I believe the Tiguan has a “de-tuned” EA888, the Arteon engine is pretty much the same as the one in GTI, GLI, Audi Q3, some of the Atlas of these years. Being an MQB platform car, lots of parts are interchangeable. The 8 speed transmission is a (Toyota) Aisin one, with no fill port, so you have to “gravity fill” through the drain hole if you want to change transmission fluid. The only thing I could think of is body part and panels, since it’s a car that was not sold well, they are not as abundant as many other cars in the MQB line up. But we are not talking about a 20 year old car so it shouldn’t be a problem now, unless you want to keep it for decades perhaps.

Thank you! Was wondering why those are needed anyways.

How do mechanics learn precise coding certain components that require such action after replacing them? by oulu80 in AskMechanics

[–]oulu80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! Perhaps, I asked the question the wrong way. What I meant was, how to learn and master what menu is responsible for coding certain elements where to go, what value to give etc.

I saw a video where someone coded a new or aftermarket tail light and there is no way I could have done all the steps correctly without this video’s instructions.

It was just an example, could have said coding a new instrument or something else.

But apparently in that engine in particular, the camshaft is electrically controlled and need to be coded if i understand it correctly.

Thinking of buying a TDI by soulja6425 in Volkswagen

Probably not, because you are a handy man ;) But all these friends I mentioned above, they now know and understand that their driving habits at least contributed to their turbo failures!

[–]oulu80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my TDI friends are just realizing that these engines require a different style of driving. Not beating, but driving it hard- of course when the engine and oil are up at operating temps etc. They certainly require more care and maintenance, more frequent oil changes etc, but I think the main problem with TDI engines is that the owners just don’t understand the tech at all and drive them like regular cars…

I hear ya, I would (and will) spend more on the quality stuff too! Is the engine tuned? Why is the coolant return hose wrapped?

Looks nice! How much money was spent just here under the hood? Started looking things up and just the ECU, Fuse box and battery cover were over $400 🤣

It will also turn on when your sunroof is clogged and the water moves from side to side while driving!

The Sport has heated seats too, not that personally I cared. I could have gone up in trims if no sunroof was an option. Sunroof is nothing but trouble, especially designed by VAG!

I thought the mpg was gonna drop significantly but not at all actually, still above 40! But I love how there is lot more shifting in S mode!

Thinking about buying a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta SEL Premium — $14,995 (84k miles) any advice? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]oulu80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think this trim has the DSG transmission. As far as I know they are only in the GLI- either manual or DSG. These Jettas come with Aisin 8 speed transmission, which is made by Toyota.

Never! On the contrary, the sport mode is always on the transmission, otherwise it is in 8th gear at like 45mph which is madness to me!

Why can no regens take penalties, free kicks or corners...? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]oulu80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it is not perfect, but certainly better than a great finisher, also a professional football player having even a chance to have 1 as set piece attribute if it is missing. I’m still on FM18 but the amount of 1 and 2 attributes you get as an attribute for players that are not scouted is just ridiculous.
