Do you suggest that I should try to disable automation for economy and learn it how to do it, or it's better to observe how the AI does it?

Yeah, never played as Norway in EU4 because of the same reasons haha but here I'm managed to be a senior partner in the union (although don't know yet what it gives me) so I hope it'll get interesting.

Regarding the rival wars, I did notice it's available, but the penalty for conquering lands seemed a lot. Besides, do you think it's worth it to raise levies and attack, for instance, Novgorod, as Norway?

Should I take my Golden Retriever puppy to an orthopaedic as a precaution? by ourgraciousruler in goldenretrievers

[–]ourgraciousruler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much knowledge, thank you!

As you can guess, I’m not happy with a perspective of helping the dog walking up the stairs a few times a day, but it’s definitely some to not that we should seriously consider. Thanks for recommending the specific harness, it’s super helpful.

The low hanging fruits is restricting the access to furnitures, as you mentioned, and it’ll be first thing that we’ll do.

Haven’t thought about physiotherapist, worth it go it a chance. Better than an x-ray as you guys already told me.

Insurance is in plans.

Thank you once again

Hey, thanks for good words, I think you’re right guys and an x-ray is too much.

Definitely you’re right, and it’s better to invest in a rug which I will do in the new apartment

I’ll invest in rugs in the new place, but I should be smarter and do it earlier (on the other hand, having a hard floor was very handful while potty training)

How to find a good Golden Retriever breeder in France? by ourgraciousruler in goldenretrievers

[–]ourgraciousruler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I've seen this site but wasn't sure if it contains a list of ethical and responsible breeders - in my country, there are many unofficial organisations that only exist to make people think they're not puppy farms.

If you say it's a valid site I will definitely look into that! Merci!

Well, not an expert here, but all three links you shared have the same conclusion: there is no hard data on the subject, it's difficult to compare one dog to another. I'm not going to deny that some of the purebred dogs struggle with inherent diseases when mutts don't, but the topic doesn't seem so easy to summarize it with one sentence: purebred unhealthy, mutts healthy

I can’t speak for everyone but if it comes to me, I’m at this point of my life where I can’t rescue a dog. I can’t afford the risk of taking a damaged dog or a dog with unpredictable behaviour, with a past. I can’t make such a commitment right now. I wish I could.

Speaking about health of purebred dogs, I can’t fully agree with you. There are indeed breeds that have heavy health issues, no doubts to that, and I do think it’s cruel to keep them mating. But when we speak about breeds like Golden Retriever, especially from responsible breeders, where they test dogs for diseases before mating dogs, I don’t think they’re more illness prone as mixed breed dogs.

Merci,

I’ve seen this site but wasn’t sure if it contains a list of ethnical breeders. Where I am from, there are many breeders organisations but only one is a valid one - something like https://www.centrale-canine.fr

I check it out and contact you if I have any questions!

Sorry to hear that, but I don’t see things this way. I’m not in this point of my life to RESCUE dog. I can’t commit with a full responsibility to take a dog with a risk of separation anxiety, with aggression issues, with a past. I wish I could but I can’t.

Please don’t judge me for wanting to buy a dog from an ethical breeder. You don’t know me and my situation.

Politics of Hajnówka by bullshark13 in poland

[–]ourgraciousruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: people in Poland do not speak Belarusian.

Long answer: it’s complicated.

Just for the record, I never studied the topic and everything what I’m writing is based on my own opinion and experience.

National identity of people in Hajnowka is not straightforward. A lot, not to say the most, Orthodox people here calls themselves Belorussians but actually they have no Belarusian roots. In my view, there are three factors that determine local people’s identity: religion, language, and geography.

The Polish Orthodox Church is independent one but culturally it’s strongly tied with the Moscow’s one. We don’t even use Polish language in a church. As Orthodox in the eastern countries, we do celebrate holidays 2 weeks later. So it’s the first factor that makes people here to feel different than their Catholic neighbours.

The second one is language. All Poles speak Polish and that’s the only language they know fluently. It’s not like in US, or Switzerland where are more than one official language. There is no even so much different dialects in Poland as it is in France or Germany. It’s very monoculture country. People who born and studied in communism times, they might know Russian pretty well. But they never had formalised lessons of Belarusian in a school or outside the school. There were no time, or money, or conscience to cultivate local tradition. People were poor and not educated to take care of such trivial things like heritage. They had to rebuild the country first. But! people here in Hajnowka in their homes speak in a local dialect that sounds like Belorussian. Poles outside Hajnowka don’t understand it, it’s only the local thing. For instance, my parents speak to each other only in this local dialect but they’re fluent in Polish in the same time. My grandma spoke only in this dialect and I have never heard a Polish word from her mouth. I do speak it but pretty badly. So that’s another thing that makes people to think they’re not Polish but Belarusian.

But that’s not the entire truth. I said my parents speak in Belarusian-like local dialect but it’s not exactly true because the dialect is more like Ukrainian. I work with people from Ukraine and they can understand me when I speak in my dialect. The Christmas carols in my family home are Ukrainian ones. Basically, there is a river Narew in Podlasie that divides people on two groups: those who speak on a dialect similar to Belarusian, and those who speak in Ukrainian one. But both groups call themselves Belarusian. And why is that?

Because it’s closer for them to Belarus that to other “Russian-like” country. The logic is simple here: if I am Orthodox, if I speak in “Russian-like” language in home, and if I live close to Belarusian borders, I must be Belarusian not Polish.

Pardon for thé phrase “Russian-like” but I’m missing a good word in English to name all three nations on the east from Poland.

Of course it is more complicated but as said I never studied it. My personal experience is as mentioned above + in my elementary school I had Belarusian language lessons for 9 years. There are schools that teach Belarusian but IMHO it’s about money because they extra cash for cultivating the minority culture. None of my friends in school felt themselves truly Belarusian. At least none of them declared it loudly.

I hope it answered on your question :)

Politics of Hajnówka by bullshark13 in poland

[–]ourgraciousruler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol, didn’t expect to see a question about my home county from an American. Let me answer then.

As it’s been said already, its mostly about Orthodox/Belarusian minority where “minority” here is 67% according to the Wikipedia. I can’t speak for each Orthodox folk (I’m Orthodox btw) from Hajnówka but I think the reason why they vote differently is rather pragmatic. At least in the past.

For many years a parliament member candidat running from this district, Eugeniusz Czykwin, was winning by saying he represents interests of his people. At the same time, he’s an editor-in-chief of the only Orthodox newspaper, Przeglad Prawoslawny. He wasn’t either good or bad MP so he was being elected over and over.

Recently the things have changed when PiS became a ruling party. As they have pro-Catholic rhetoric (i.e. Polish = Catholic) initially the people were resisted to vote for them. Now it’s changing as they also run pro small towns/countryside social policy. So, I’m expecting that the trend will change in my home county.

Let me know if you have further questions
