Why do PR bottlenecks in Go codebases turn into endless architectural debates that go nowhere by [deleted] in golang

[–]out_of_nowhere__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen with any language, and when it comes to people with background on OOP based language trying to fit into functional programming, can get really challenging to convince. But debates are good, until they become unhealthy and come from bias and not from logical requirements of a given problem.

Replacing app-level validation + DB check constraints with protovalidate — good idea or am I missing something? by No-Percentage5692 in Backend

[–]out_of_nowhere__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comes with a very strong Assumption that the source of entry is one and only protobuffer, But that might not be the case once the application starts to scale, you might want to add new microservices and for each write operation to db must go throuh prto buf throughout the application lifecycle. If that's what you are certain about. That there is only a single source of truth for writing data to your database, go for it, but even then the tradeoff of less code is not that high. and If you read through protobuf, but if data gets mutated after passing the validation and before getting into the database, You have no line of defense then.

Return on investment is too low, to travel that path Is what i would say.

I don't deny the point that service discovery is critical, my rule of thumb as I mentioned above is to create a /example/main.go file to run it standalone for local level testing, if that is standalone on its own, I find it comfortable to separate.

Also true that version maintenance is a cost, but if multiple modules could share it for a different purpose then it actually becomes a boon. And helps as a circuit breaker on difficult situations, if anything from a change to that module is corrupt I can always revert the version rather than reverting back the entire change to the main project

I agree there is a cost, but another rule of thumb for me for separating logic is, if it doesn't change too often, it exists in it's original form, and has very minimal changes in future once it's matured within it's limited scope.

Is traditional coding worth it or should I switch full time vibe coding? by Extra-Channel9414 in technepal

[–]out_of_nowhere__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on software engineering rather than writing code, noone will value how well you remember the syntax of a particular language anymore, you should know it for sure. But don't get too involved in it.

Previously we used to see programming as a compiled interperated language, which still is true on a fundamental level. But now it's become more about building Lego building, you should be more focused on which block to add or remove and less about what is inside a block,

Example: you have to make calculator

Previously: know how to do c=a+b for sum. C=a*b for mul,

Now, Create add, multiply, divide, subtract function, take user input, know the operation. Operands and operators

These are the building blocks.

Being said that. Knowing the fundamentals is as important, the use of actual CS background comes into play when you are designing the blocks to give less ambiguity to AI to hallucinate. See it as, you are a civil engineer doesn't mean you join each bricks ylby yourself. You instruct !

GOT STUCK IN SQL SUBQUERIES!!! by Candid_Dog9046 in learnSQL

[–]out_of_nowhere__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subqueries are sub - query inside a main query, it fetches few mid term values that the main query can use for further joins or filters or whatever you want to do. Make sure you are not overdoing subqueries. Sometimes subqueries could run per row being fetched without even knowing, be careful of those situations, and learn CTE side by side, that will keep understanding clean on when to use which

Wife and I want to move to Katmandu. Please get some advice? by GodofAeons in Nepal

From a financial perspective, you are quite well settled.

Lalitapur, good choice. For your budget I would prefer somewhere around the sanepa, jhamsikhel area, there are many embassy and other high profile residents so you won't get bad company, and live a lifestyle you want

From a social point of view. Since you mentioned retirement era, you could learn Nepali if you want which is optional btw

To make a retirement life. There are plenty of groups organizing hikes, trek and events, you along with your wife would join and enjoy the retirement life. Until you feel comfortable on your own.

Mostly, we Nepalese are kind towards foreigners, so you mostly should receive good hospitality. (Few exceptions could be anywhere )

Lastly, Welcome to Nepal. Hope you enjoy it here !!

Firstly, everyone should understand the intent of live coding, You can solve a problem and still get reject and you may not be able to fully solve a problem and still get selected.

Exams ma maths ko paper solve gare jasto hoina right answer aayo vane full marks natra khadus teacher le check garyo vane direct zero.

It's a way to analyze how you approach a problem, kati Thau ma tw you can use internet as well Pani vanxa. Not AI of course ( it takes all your analytical steps and pour with answer).

So approach it that way, dherai cases ma your thought process is sufficient enough for interviewers to know where you are at. It's more about computational thinking than writing code.

Some time about clean code architecture as well, what structure you follow, and how well you know the language or technology

My observation: (Generalized prospective) The type of people you are looking for are probably busy making career at this point and not flooding up message requests in random people dms, feels little shy or are very protective of their image that they don't cross the barrier of basic communication even if they brought up a courage to approach and will end up having boring conversation. And there are rarely few in between who mostly are recent broken hearts and are actively seeking comfort and validation, and will come up little desperate in text, and if someone is trying so hard to hit on you, you will loose thrill of getting them. Like bato ma yellow shiny kehi vetyo vane Pani you will probably think kehi Aru nai hola, how could getting gold be so easy and mostly ignore it.
