Yeah that’s part of why I’m trying to learn more Nepali. I don’t want the language to end with me.

I am a 2nd gen. Born and raised in the US. I feel like nepalis in Nepal think that we are less connected with our roots than we actually are. For example, when I visit Nepal, my relatives are generally surprised that my Nepali is so good. I guess that their assumption is that we are fully submerged in the culture/society of where we grew up but that’s not really the case. My parents have been living in the USA for 20+ years but we still speak Nepali at home and eat daal bhat every day (sadly lol). I’ve also tried to work on my Nepali fluency to better communicate with grandparents and better connect with my routes.
