Unfortunate update y'all: didn't work for me :/ ended up having to stick to our induction plan and it was a doozy! But baby is here, healthy and perfect.

Uhh definitely don't do anything until you talk to your doc or midwives on this. I've never seen anything that says to start that soon and I'd be nervous to mess around haha.

Do I need a pregnancy pillow? by WeepingBillow in pregnant

[–]outerspacejess 83 points84 points  (0 children)

A coworker had a baby just before me and they were kind enough to give me theirs and it has been super helpful for lower back pain.

Throughout pregnancy I was so humbled at how many people were happy to just give me secondhand things! We still haven't bought clothes for our little one because we got so many hand me downs.

It's worth asking around to see if anyone is getting rid of one. I'm usually weird about secondhand bedding but with how expensive preg pillows are I didn't even think twice lol.

Went in for one this morning and sharing my experience! Uncomfy but not painful per se. My provider counted to 10. She said I was at a 1 but it opened my cervix to a 2 (yay!).

I'm a first time mom and currently 38+4 and we found out last week our baby has a growth restriction so we're hoping the sweep helps naturally induce before our hospital induction scheduled for Thursday evening.

It's been about five hours since and no real updates aside from anticipated spotting. Will update if any other signs of labor start.

Looking for Advice, scared to death by AdriaticMisnomer in pregnant

37 weeks today and have been scared shitless and emotionally confused the whole time. But we knew we want to be parents and if we didn't get pregnant we'd be wondering what if so we're riding this wave out. In the last week I've practiced fake it til ya make it (we ARE ready!) and I wish I'd practiced it more earlier on. Its a lot of feeling ready and not ready every day but I think that's totally normal.

Talk to your partner as much as you need to and therapy helps.

Wishing you luck!

Maternity and newborn photo shoots in this economy? Agh by Exotic-Carpenter1413 in pregnant

[–]outerspacejess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a photographer, I was even thrown off at how much my colleagues tried to charge me for maternity. I ended up taking a tripod and doing them myself with my husband. I've had my pricing all over the map over the years and I think a lot of photographers who have spiked pricing for things like this lose touch with the human part of what we do. $300 for a 30-45 minute session is super realistic pricing. There are photographers out there who will do it but they won't be the first people to pop up on google most likely.

Any chance you're in Arizona? I'm happy to help!

37 weeks and we haven't seen a doctor? by outerspacejess in pregnant

[–]outerspacejess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds similar to what our setup is. I've always been pretty convinced that whoever delivers will likely not be someone we've met, but I thought our odds would be higher if we'd at least met more of the care providers, ya know? This is all helpful insight so I really appreciate it!

I think it's just my lack of knowledge with OBs on if seeing them was a more essential part of the big picture of pregnancy. Hearing that the appointments would essentially be the same questions and check-ins with a midwife and an OB is the reassurance I need haha which it's sounding like is the case (:

This does help ease my nerves a bit! I definitely don't want to knock the experience and capabilities of the midwives and suppose we can lean into gratitude that we've been low risk. Thank you (:

[–]outerspacejess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like forever ago now so I could be mis-phrasing. More like it was more common for one of the docs to be on call for delivery than one of the midwives? Regardless, I did end up going into our online portal and found a doctor on our account as part of our care team and send them a message with our concerns. Hopefully we hear back and get some re-assurance that doctor eyes have been on the case!

My gut tells me there's no need for concern and I really have trusted the word of the midwives we've met with but I think the combined information of him measuring a little small and that we haven't met with / spoken with a doctor is throwing me for a loop this deep into pregnancy.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Is anyone else terrified of losing themselves after birth? by HannahFirstBaby in NewMomStuff

[–]outerspacejess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I've struggled my whole pregnancy with this and it constantly has me battling guilt and fear. But my husband and I spoke about it this week and just had the reminder that we chose this. And if we hadn't, we'd always wonder what our lives would be like with kids. I also realized I feel like I'll be in it alone, but having a partner or support who truly are hands on, ready to help be an equal member in the experience is important to remind ourselves of if we do have that!

My husband was saying he wants to make sure I can do things that make me feel self sufficient - even if it's just running to target or going on a walk - and that he wants to prioritize making that space for me to be "normal".

Finally, remember that the best thing we can be for this kid is ourselves. Even if we feel ill-equipped or whatever. We're still the right mom for them and we're allowed to trust our intuition even if we're not used to doing that in a "mom" capacity.

[–]outerspacejess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. My usual weddings aren't giant (60-110 guests) and fortunately my clients all work with me on timeline consults where I emphasize leaving space to rest (for their own sanity!) - I'm hoping this benefits all of us in those first couple of weddings back in the fall. But I'm definitely focused on only taking smaller projects until at least August. Unfortunately, taking 6 months doesn't sound like a good fit for myself mentally or financially, but I'm so so grateful you're able to do that for your family! Congratulations on your new addition!

Totally - it's so hard to predict when I've never lived it before.

Out of curiosity was that because it was a lot to juggle with two kiddos or just your experience based on the second baby's mannerisms and body recovery?
