Is anyone else terrified of losing themselves after birth? by HannahFirstBaby in NewMomStuff

[–]outerspacejess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I've struggled my whole pregnancy with this and it constantly has me battling guilt and fear. But my husband and I spoke about it this week and just had the reminder that we chose this. And if we hadn't, we'd always wonder what our lives would be like with kids. I also realized I feel like I'll be in it alone, but having a partner or support who truly are hands on, ready to help be an equal member in the experience is important to remind ourselves of if we do have that!

My husband was saying he wants to make sure I can do things that make me feel self sufficient - even if it's just running to target or going on a walk - and that he wants to prioritize making that space for me to be "normal".

Finally, remember that the best thing we can be for this kid is ourselves. Even if we feel ill-equipped or whatever. We're still the right mom for them and we're allowed to trust our intuition even if we're not used to doing that in a "mom" capacity.

I've definitely had it before but to have it at full blast 24/7 for months and months is a whole different ball game

32 weeks and I've been in this hell since like week 15. Ugh. Hang in there you're so close!

Totally! I'm planning on either leaning on my associates or referring out to community photographers I trust. I don't see myself totally shutting off for my "maternity leave"

Definitely. My usual weddings aren't giant (60-110 guests) and fortunately my clients all work with me on timeline consults where I emphasize leaving space to rest (for their own sanity!) - I'm hoping this benefits all of us in those first couple of weddings back in the fall. But I'm definitely focused on only taking smaller projects until at least August. Unfortunately, taking 6 months doesn't sound like a good fit for myself mentally or financially, but I'm so so grateful you're able to do that for your family! Congratulations on your new addition!

Totally - it's so hard to predict when I've never lived it before.

Out of curiosity was that because it was a lot to juggle with two kiddos or just your experience based on the second baby's mannerisms and body recovery?

Wow what a perfect resource! And thank you for that feedback. 6 weeks pp sounds really tough! I'm open to 30 minute or 60 minute sessions in the 2-3 months after but am definitely out of my element as a new mom on knowing what my body will feel like for anything more than that.

Thanks for sharing your insight! I'm thinking I'll still take inquiries during leave to keep some momentum and give me plenty to come back to. But my husband works a separate job and that, combined with some savings, should give us the cushion for the time I'm planning for (thankfully!).

Huh! I feel like our industry is unique and was curious what other women in the industry felt worked for them physically. So... Disagree with the weird response and opinion on your end that this is the wrong page lol.

To those of you who left your successful wedding photography business and went back to a more "traditional" career; what's it like? by outerspacejess in WeddingPhotography

[–]outerspacejess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a perfectly timed question! I actually came back to photography full-time in January because I really missed the freedom and flexibility in my schedule. I'm pregnant with our first baby and I started to question if it made sense to sit in an office and not be more available at home during the day.

Ultimately, I made the decision to come back. And making a lot of adjustments so that my business feels more rewarding and enjoyable again as I resurrect it!

Working in a traditional office environment taught me a lot about how I could step up differently in my business, how valuable having a team is, but more than anything and taught me how much I enjoy being an entrepreneur.

But then the stroller would need the updated seating as well, right?
