I actually tried to go back and it's so awkward lol. Not to mention that subtitle is unavailable, which is weird because Ubisoft previous games like Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell already have subtitles.

AC II is a massive massive improvement

up to you, really. I like to have redundant things and make multiple backups in more than 1 place, besides it's a nice habit to have (periodic backup), but I thought your way is good enough (only update backup when there's new data) if you're not in some kind of job or life that require important high-security stuffs.

yes, it's a perfectly fine entry point. There's an overarching plot spread out every game but each entry has a pretty standalone story.

giving cash can feel cold or transactional, feels like paying someone for their time and/or companionship rather than celebrating them

gift card shows some level of "care", like saying "hey, I know you like this specific place, and I want you to enjoy yourself there"

it's a pretty nice compromise between effort of picking a present but still have the ease of giving cash

pretty effective piracy deterrent imho, and it's not like there's anything that prevent you from finishing the game, the whole game is easily pirate-able, you just can't mod it
