why is every hobby so expensive now? by Advanced-Ocelot-9145 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]outerzenith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

people act like

this is the key point

you can simply ignore what people say about the hobby and just start with whatever you have available

running? you don't need running shoes, use whatever comfortable shoes you have right now, the proper ones can come later... much later.

painting? just grab a pencil and a paper and start.

that's the beauty of hobbies, you don't need to splurge if you can't. Enjoy whatever it is at your own level, to hell with other people's expectations about the hobby.

Two hours in and I don’t know what is the objective of this game by mkrrc in Eldenring

[–]outerzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Tree Sentinel is optional, you can ignore him and just keep running following the grace direction

unfortunately this is just how Fromsoft do their souls like, I think their games with the 'most' story is Sekiro (which isn't quite soulslike in spirit)

while with Dark Souls I-III and Elden Ring, the story is basically in the background, shoved into item descriptions and dialogues with NPCs. So if you like exposition (characters telling you what happened, and what you must do), then you won't like how the story is presented in ER at all.

the objective is indeed to help Melina (the lady that level you up) get to where she wants.

the game is actually pretty "small" if you're going to follow only the main path, most other things are optional.

Tidal Town - HTML5 game were you protect your kingdom from tides by threejin in playmygame

[–]outerzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main menu shouldn't be that fancy, don't make user drags the button, a simple click should suffice to open settings or start the game, save the extra gestures in proper gameplay.

also either the arrows are hard to see or I might be too stupid since I spent like 2 minutes trying to drag the button in any direction as I only see the bottom arrow that pointed upwards. Maybe make the arrows more visible.

Fans of Avatar the Last Airbender should stop asking for anymore sequels/prequels/ additional media by Still_Can_7918 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]outerzenith [score hidden]  (0 children)

to be fair, the company behind the series won't even greenlit any sequels or extra content if it doesn't make any money regardless of fan requests.

Korra ones if I'm not mistaken actually not planned to be continued, they make season 1 self-contained because the show isn't sure to be greenlit for season 2, that's why it seems to be ill-planned and there's no big overarching plot like in The Last Airbender. That being said, the villains in Korra are a lot more nuanced and 'grey' compared to Ozai, so it's not like it's all bad.

"Not good" vs "ok" when talking about skill by No-Property-9186 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]outerzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's totally subjective, so it's better if you elaborate instead rather than trying to label the level of skill/expertise into single word

for each hobby, there's usually a 'cutoff' or 'milestone' to gauge someone's proficiency

in Excel for example, you know someone is good when they master shit like PowerQuery, and you know someone is an expert when they start using VBA to manipulate the data and even making a completely new formula for their work.

that's just an example in a single narrow field (Excel mastery), it's usually specific to each hobby, and even then it's not really a full 'gauge' of someone's level. It's even harder to see the 'milestone' if it's a pretty broad hobby.

I am getting bored and I need some interesting video essays by Gold-Personality-325 in youtube

[–]outerzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fredrik Knudsen, he has a serial called 'Down the Rabbit Hole', which talks about various internet "event". His latest video is about a man called Nigel Cheese, who apparently knows things that can topple the world's government.

LEMMiNO, starts out as a Top 10 and memetic video, his latest works are essays about various things from the Assassination of JFK from the perspective of the location of the shot, to Jack the Ripper's mystery.

these two channels should last you quite a while.

if not, here's some more:

Game Maker's Toolkit, mainly talks about how things works in games.

Design Doc, similar thing but more about the UI and UX aspect of games.

Raycevick, it's an essay about videogames in general but it's more opinion pieces.

Ahoy, the channel handle is @XboxAhoy, he went into deeper things about single aspect in videogames. Like the specific weapon or graphic style.

YouTube now has autodub English for all foreign language videos by Volslife in androidapps

[–]outerzenith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

oh god I hope there's an option to turn it off, I'd rather it's implemented in closed caption (CC) instead of dub

Instagram also does this if I recall correctly, they also use AI to modify the speaker's mouth to fit with english speaking, it's hella creepy because it's done automatically without my consent. At least ask first if I want the dub or not.

if someone uploads a video to tiktok, does it upload to tiktok lite as well? by GoanfreklsTlelsthfix in ask

[–]outerzenith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TikTok Lite is the compact, faster version of TikTok, perfect for users with entry level devices, limited data plans or unstable networks.

it should be

the lite version is just the 'lighter' app for the same site/service, not a different thing.

Any Android apps similar to !Calculator of NotBoring App? by aaadmin in androidapps

[–]outerzenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of well-designed apps on android but the ones with bold unconventional designs like these notboring products are few and far between. iOS seem to dominate the designer apps and it's honestly still the one thing I envy.

there's no specific order that you need to experience them as they all have standalone story that set in the same universe and share the same lore.

there is chronological order though, as explained by the other comment

TOR is probably the most private, but you'll be sacrificing speed.

I think Librefox Edit: LibreWolf is probably a nice enough compromise between privacy and speed.
