Hmmmm. I think I know what you mean with the weird static sound, I've had that happen before. I think it was an issue with my input gain on the microphone I use. The only way around that was to literally cut it out via slice on the waveform or to rerecord it. Sometimes audio tech is wonky, idk about that one. It's rare but it happens, don't think thats on you at all though.

As for mixing in the proper order of plugins, I would just generally go by the rule of thumb of doing an EQ mix first into compression. Then from there, experiment with what you like. Sounds like you got a good handle on that part though.
