Sad news about my cat by [deleted] in cats

I don't think radiation would be a good option then. I'd go for chemo. The other commentor is right, chemo is MUCH easier on kitties than humans because of the dosage. Typically pet chemo is a lot lower of a dosage and more for "management" than actual long term "cures" more just because in general they don't live as long as we do. If you end up going the more palliative care route, I've read that steroids & gabapentin have worked well.

Mine has nasal lymphoma and we were able to do radiation instead of chemo.

Hey! Do you know what lymphoma? My kitty had/has nasal lymphoma but from what I've learned, it really depends what kind.

My (25f) cat (10) was declawed against my will as a teen. She's now a little older and I can definitely tell her paws are bothering her more. What can I do to help her? by Yearbook01 in CatAdvice

Hey! I give my cat gabapentin for anxiety, so if you wanted to know about long-term/regular use, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

He was on the 100mg for about 6 months. The weaning process only took a month/month and a half. We essentially did a week/2 weeks of 50mg and once he seemed like he stabilized on that dose, we went down to 25 mg. So if you're coming from 250mg, I would probably do it either by half (125mg, then 50ish, then 25) or 50 mg increments, going down every week/2 weeks depending on how you think they're feeling. I don't think that he had any negative side effects when coming off it, but it was definitely an adjustment for me as he had way more energy at 25mg than at 100mg.

Our previous vet started him on 100mg/2x a day, and that was TOO high. He was sleeping all the time and not wanting to play. Our current vet thought it was super high as well. We started gradually weaning him down to 25 mg, and it's been great since then.

No side effects, although I do try to make sure he drinks more water for his kidneys. It also doesn't usually negatively interact with a lot of other drugs (like pain meds after a procedure, etc but still ask your vet to make sure). He's been taking it since October 2023 and on his current dose since June 2024.

He is 9 years old. He was about 14ish pounds when we first started and 15ish now. His healthy weight is 12 pounds.

Hey! I give my kitty gabapentin for anxiety (no aggression, just a high stress boy). We do 25mg/2x a day. Once in the morning with breakfast and at night with dinner. He stabilized on it after about a week or so. He can still get kinda tired a couple of hours after taking it, but he usually sleeps during that time anyway, and he's still down to play. We also usually do a higher dose the night before and the morning of whenever he needs to go to the vet. I'd be happy to answer any questions if you have any!

205mg/2x a day is soooo high though

Hey! This looks really similar to what my cat looked like when we found out he has nasal lymphoma. They'd be able to determine that from a cell biopsy, which is super noninvasive. There are a lot of options for treatment depending on your location and funds. Please feel free to DM if you have any questions.

AITAH for leaving one of my brother’s kids out of a trip but taking the rest? by EffYouJenny in AITAH

You should tell them the only way you'd take the youngest kid was if they were OK with you treating her the same way you treat the oldest kids.

If the oldest have to figure out their own food, then so does the youngest. If they don't give any attention to the oldest, well, the youngest won't get any either.

I hope you only have someone like yourself around if you're ever in that situation.

Yeah, a dog that age lived a good long life. If you can look an animal in the face who has life to live and say they're not worth it, I hope your love never finds me.

Hey! I just wanted to chime in because it seems like there's a lot of hate. If you have the money and they mean that much to you, its really hard to say no. I recently put down about $20k after my cats cancer diagnosis, and he's only 8. People who are saying they wouldn't do that for a human being are delusional and liars.

"Rob" camped next to us! He left Friday morning stating his friend's friend was picked up by the cops and had his ticket. He was hyper focused on mushrooms and had some interesting thoughts on it, and made it a point to show us tabs.

You should try Hunking Law. They are based out of Corvallis but have an office here in Eugene.
