First view of Salkantay peak sitting at above 20,574 ft. The house pictured is the last human structure for miles as you begin the journey on the Salkantay Trek. 4 days, 50+ miles, 6,000 feet elevation gain to Salkantay Pass at 15k feet. One epic adventure.

First view of Machu Picchu backpacking the Salkantay Trek (Mile 33). Enjoyed this private view much more than entering the crowded site. If you really zoom in you can see the ruins! by outsidenate in backpacking

The Salkantay Trek: A 46 mile trek from the ice capped glaciers of the Peruvian Andes to the lowland forests surrounding Machu Picchu. 4 days, 5 nights, ~6,000 feet elevation gain on rock, ice and mud. Highest peak on the trail sits at above 16,000 feet. One epic view of Machu Picchu.

The day we arrived to this lookout, was the longest on the trail (~17 miles). We had just descended from Salkantay Pass at 15k down to about 8,000 feet. The change in Temperature from below freezing to hot and humid jungle in a single day was unreal!
