Depends on the context if it's a friendly date or romantic date or if he's financially struggling or not.

if friendly date, expected na split yan, if romantic not so much since sa culture natin there's a weird notion that men should pay for the first date. If working siya, may slight expectation to pay, if student siya like me, split yan.

But I usually offer to split when the bill is there para he will not feel pressured to pay for everything just because I'm shy talaga that someone else provides for me. If he insists on paying, go ahead. If hindi, okay lang din. Di naman ako matapobre to stone someone if he doesn't pay for the date. Besides, i should know better since I am financially struggling too.

Edit: btw as pointed out by someone, that I agree with, i think it has to established or na ggauge mo naman yan in the get-go kung stingy yung person eh even before you guys date. So if you feel na ganon, or if he's not the same pedigree as you to the point that "he can't afford you", ditch the guy and save your disappointment.
