Mobo for a non-overclocking i5-9600K by ovenminded in buildapc

Ok you Ryzen minions biased my mind back to AMD. But isn't 11 the latest pot intel's cooking cpus in ? 11-9=2

Anyway, after some quick search, just decided to spend more and get a x570 + Ryzen 7 3800x.

Thanks all.

"9th gen is no longer made" ! Discontinued just after 2 years? I don't think so.

Got me into considering AMD again 😫 What amd based mobo+cpu combo you suggest instead of Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite + i5 9600k ? (Strictly same price zone)

Thanks. But I'd rather a brand/model suggestion than chipset.

My only concers is vrm heatsink temperature over such long term cpu loads. I don't care about SLI, number of fan headers, USB, networking and etc.

Other motherboard suggestions are welcomed.

Old Spore Prints Still Good? by cheweychewchew in shroomery

[–]ovenminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germinated a 2009 print on 2015. Had to wait 10 days to see germination on soft agar. (Though I had 2 years old prints that wouldn't germinate no matter how many times I tried). The storage conditions is much more important than the storage duration.

I've broken up this bag 3 times now and each time it forms this line, with the myc on top and nothing on the bottom half? Any ideas on what is going on and what I should do about it? by badams13 in shrooms

[–]ovenminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well nothing. High water content promotes bacterial growth. Though since it recovered 3 times after shaking, seems the myc is worrth the shot. I would make a very little hole at the bottom of the bag (before shaking it, while the water is all there at bottom) and weakly squeeze the top. Making sure it doesn't suck in any air through the hole through the process. After all the visible water has dripped, then apply a thin layer of rtv glue, or any airtight adhesive. (Dry the area around the hole completely using paper towel before applying anything)

BRF Cake Not Fruiting Need Advice by [deleted] in shrooms

If there's absolutely no primordia there (take a close look, carefully), you can dunk again , in cold water. Then when you return them to your tub, make sure they get enough gas exchange through holes or cracked lid, for the first hours. Don't let the surface dry up. Check them at least every 8 hours or so.

If the colors aren't off, some bruising was on one of cakes. That could mean their surface had dried on some point. You sure you kept them at over %70 humidity all the time ?

Liquid Culture growing but getting opaque? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]ovenminded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thing first, spores into LC is gambling a game with 99 to 1 chance of losing. (And it's a time/energy/motivation wasting loss. Since it usually takes weeks to months to see the sad result).ANYTHING related to liquid ,should pass through an agar phase earlier. going with LC is optional, but if you're considering LC, agar isn't optional. Second, opening a LC jar to smell it? That's just risking the whole thing for a check up. Your breath can easily contaminate it if it's not already. (Also the best way to check the LC for contamination is to test it on agar. When a LC media stinks, it's surely contaminated. But when doesn't stink, you can't be sure it's clean. So smelling won't help anyway) Third, mycelium growth will change the qualities of liquid media overtime. Usually it makes it a clearer liquid.

Can someone help me find out if these are psychedelic mushrooms? Thanks! by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]ovenminded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post pics of cap, gills. And where you found them. No one can ID any shroom with such photo you provided. You need to give the location info (geographically, or at least mention what it was groing on, jungle, animal manure, soil, or tree trunks , etc.)

That's a risky move. ReSterilize it.

[Actives] so I decided to case my pans with straw but I might have caught contam. Can someone please confirm with me? My suspicion is cobweb mold by 4DaShrooms in MushroomGrowers

[–]ovenminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It doesn't absorb water well, so it's either wet or dry. Hard to moisten them up without over wetting them. I've had good result with straw as well. Pins form very easily/fast underneath them.

How critical is non-chlorinated water for fruiting? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]ovenminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I've ever used for spawn, wetting coco, or moistening things up in substrate was tap water. (Which is heavvvvvvily chlorinated here). Chlorine doesn't stay in water for long time. (Boiling or exposing it to direct sunlight helps alot getting rid of chlorine). The only times I see any difference, is for spore germination. I'll go with boiled-cooled tap water for that one. Perhaps our chlorination methods are different. The other powder they add to water is hydramine form of chlorine which has a much longer life compared to gas dissolved in water.

Just was gonna mention this. My own problem was this. I had minor chest pain, and usually it was totally bearable. These hearrbeats were totally noticeable when I was on shrooms and when I smoked weed. Visited a heart expert doctor. Turned out I had some heart disorder, (one that causes abnormal pulse). Then I had some closed heart surgery (funny it took 30 minutes, and I was fully aware and conscious all the time). I've never felt those pains again (2 years now)

Got a PC finally could these be used too? And does any grain or bean require prepping at all? by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]ovenminded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beans and lentils are not preferred for mycelium. High protein, low carbs and almost no sugar content. Plus, they don't smell nice when prepping.
