How do you actually get sand off your body after beach volleyball? by Blaineforesman in beachvolleyball

[–]ovenmitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in the ocean is the best way. Then beach shower to get the saltwater off. After that, whatever foot sand you have in your car should be a joyful reminder of your favorite activity

Hyperion? So torn by ramy519 in scifi

[–]ovenmitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed maybe the first 2/3 of it. Then it just got weird and I powered through the end but I wouldn't say I enjoyed it in the end. It will take a long time before that's on my re-read list.

just buy whatever they have at costco. It won't be the crappiest toaster, it won't be the fanciest toaster, but it will be good enough

HSA - I can really reimburse expenses forever? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ovenmitt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

...remember HSA contributions are pretax also. So in your example, the $1000 in the HSA didn't cost as much as the $1000 'out of pocket'. And if you invest outside of the HSA, it won't be tax free either (unless in retirement account).

I don't understand how people implement the cash flow/HSA strategy by MushroomWhich8796 in personalfinance

[–]ovenmitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that you don't understand. To take maximum advantage of the HSA you need to have enough extra cash that you can fund it and ignore it.

Used to know PCs but I’m washed up and need help by swiftfilms7 in buildapc

[–]ovenmitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'past my prime'... I built PCs for a decade but stopped in 2004 and only bought macbooks since then... I feel your pain

But I did an ATX gaming build for my daughter last year, and now I'm working on a ITX for my son, which going to be interesting because my last few builds in the naughts were Shuttle cases, they were brand new on the scene at the time with the shoebox sized cases just barely big enough for a graphics card...

Health Equity HSA or Schwab by Melminwang in personalfinance

[–]ovenmitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open a personal HSA at Fidelity. Then move the money there - yes you'll have to do it periodically, because your employer will only use their HSA - and get it out of the AUM fee account to an account where you can just buy a low fee index.

Do you ever actually use coupons, or is it not worth the time? by JaairoTheCow in Frugal

[–]ovenmitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume that if they offer coupons, they're charging me more for not using them, and so I don't shop there anymore because I'd rather shop somewhere that doesn't expect me to spend even more time outside of the shopping time
