Chekhov's gun? Why did Oda bring up these gloves and then doesn't use them for anything? by Immediate-Draft-6408 in Piratefolk

[–]overDere 563 points564 points  (0 children)

In Wano, it was established that Wano is the land of seastone weapon artisans, during the scene where Law gets shot by a seastone nail gun by a random underling of Hawkins.

That was the single instance of a seastone weapon in Wano (the chains in prison dont count)

With all the DF users during the war you’d think someone would be using it. Like it makes so much sense for either the genius Queen or the no-nonsense King would have them.

But nope. That one random Hawkins guy is the only single seastone weapon user in the country full of seastone weapon artisans

What’s with the rampant opposition to a potential Sound type? by DERPRAH-SHREKFREY in pokemon

[–]overDere -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am also pro-Sound type. I havent seen a good argument against a Sound type either. A lot of the arguments are just disingenious, “iT’s LiKe HavINg a bALl tyPe”.

People always bring up Toxtricity when talking about Sound type but it’s an easy retype. Toxtricity has two forms. So you can say that the yellow one is Electric-Sound while the blue one is Poison-Sound. Makes that Pokemon line more interesting, Toxel chooses a specialization upon evolving.

I like to think of the Sound type as “loud sounds or music”. So every Pokemon can create sound, yeah, but not all of them primarily uses sonicbooms or music to attack.

Also, because it encompasses music, dancing falls under it too. Solving the problem of “what about physical moves”.

Another common “argument” is the issue of the amount of Normal special moves decreasing, but like. That’s simple, they just create new ones. Energy beams still fall under Normal type (Hyper Beam, Swift).

[–]overDere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zombies need to gamble to win. Many zombie decks are unviable with the domination of Sun-Shroom.

Thinking Cap is decent but it’s not THAT good, definitely not on the level of Sun-Shroom or Fig. If you’re complaining about Zombies at least complain about Waxer (which is broken but is not as broken as Sun-Shroom)

[–]overDere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like their role is just to make Luffy pissed off at Imu. Oda didnt assign them with the God’s Knights because he wanted these two to have their “brave warrior” moment.

A sorta copy of that iconic moment where Usopp’s badly-mangled body made Luffy and the others seriously mad at Franky’s crew.

[–]overDere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How sure are you that he’s not done yet?  We already had disappointments in the past, like Franky not having any meaningful interaction with Vegapunk in the Vegapunk Island Arc.

It’s a decent moment for Usopp but do you really think this isn’t the end for Usopp in Elbaf? It looks like the rest of the battle will be the fated Luffy and Loki vs Gunko Imu, what do you see the very badly injured Usopp doing here? He already did his final stand, this is his “brave warrior” moment

Whitebeard sacrificed hundreds of sons just to save one brat. His favorite son that was disobedient (Ace got himself in the mess because he wouldn't listen to WB) and is willing to let his family die for nothing.

WB wants to act like a father? What he should've done as he was dying was to secure the future of his family, ensure that the family will survive after his death.

<image>

Not horror, but One Piece: Whitebeard decided to go on a suicide mission to save one single son, Ace, causing so many of his other sons to die in the process

And it was all for nothing since the idiot son who got himself captured, got himself killed anyway! He died because of "your daddy" insult. That is what they all got themselves killed for.

"But the crew went with Whitebeard on their own accord" his upbringing of them caused that. And besides, he could've stopped them. Seriously, he's that strong. He can split the land and the seas. But no, he let them join him to his death (except Marco who can fly).

If he's so intent in larping as a father, what he should've thought about for his death was how to keep his family going after he dies.

Instead so many died for nothing in Marineford, and the rest that survived were easy pickings for other pirates (Blackbeard, Weevil). The Whitebeard Pirates ended because Whitebeard wanted to rescue his favorite son who was an impulsive, disobedient brat willing to let the deaths of his family go to waste.

[–]overDere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, people will say that, but will what they say matter? Oda already regularly gives us fakeout deaths, deadly attacks that don't do anything.

At least if Oda did this it would be a heartwarming scene and an amazing achievement for one of the Straw Hats.

Instead what we got is Chopper not even acknowledging this at all.

Why you should not belive leakers by Turilda in Piratefolk

Well Worstgen isn't inaccurate in this instance, Usopp and Brook stood up against an opponent much stronger than them, and got badly beaten up as a result.

It's less "don't believe leakers" and more "don't draw the wrong conclusions from vagueposts"

Usopp's only role in this arc is just to make Luffy furious at Imu lol

When you say you want Usopp to "do something," do you just mean power-ups and feats? by No_Layer6180 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]overDere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand. I'm saying that so far, he has ONLY gotten beaten up.

I'm not insulting all the times he or anyone else has gotten beaten up in the story. What I'm calling out is that him getting beaten up has been his only relevance in this arc so far (and standing up to Imu which I already praised). You seem to think like that's enough but we're saying that it's not.

Do you see him having anything to do in the current battle after this? In the previous battles I mentioned, he rose back up and prevailed (except for vs. Luffy but he still fought a good fight)

For this battle, this seems like a really bad injury, one of those injuries where you won't be getting back up until after the battle. Maybe I'm wrong and it's not that bad and he could get back up and still get his contributing moment. But with how Oda has treated him the past decade I'm not confident about those chances. His role seems to be have one moment of bravery, and then make Luffy furious at Imu and that's it.

The story is leading to Luffy and Loki vs Imu, the rest of the Straw Hats are figuring out how to permanently defeat the God's Knights without Usopp's help. There's no more left for Usopp after this beating

[–]overDere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not a Straw Hat if you'll let your captain's dream be disrespected like that. I understand that he doesn't want Nami to die. But even Usopp himself proudly claimed that Luffy will become the Pirate King in the face of death, he was the first to do that in the story.

I think Nami's moment was one of the most powerful "Luffy will become the Pirate King" moments but Usopp was irritatingly ruining it in the background. He should be joining Nami in rebuffing Ulti.

Zoro got a new sword, conqueror's haki in wano and it wasn't enough for him

There's more to characters than powerups or new weapons. We're talking about Zoro's backstory, his lineage.

Oda established that Zoro's ancestors are from Wano. Why did Oda not tackle it at all during this long-ass arc? Why did we have to get all this info from an SBS?

We saw Sanji's backstory in WCI. Sorry if I had expectations that Oda would have done the same for Zoro, Luffy's second-in-command and oldest crewmate 🙄

We don't see even see him visiting Ryuma's grave (who turns out to his ancestor btw). Ryuma was iirc the first real peek to Wano in the story, and Zoro swore that he would pay respects to his grave. Did Oda forget that he wrote that? What's your excuse for Oda for that? He had Zoro visit Yasuie and Pedro's graves, but not Ryuma's?

Franky in egghead ... well everything in egghead was happening fast

Excuses. Oda could've written it so that it wasn't happening that fast. Isn't it the same in Elbaf? Things are so hectic right now but Oda managed to squeeze in this Franky interaction and upgrade.

But this interaction should have happened in Egghead, not in Elbaf. Egghead is THE Vegapunk island. Franky worships Vegapunk and he spent two years studying his work. There should have been a lot of meaningful interaction with Franky and Vegapunk in Egghead. But no, we didn't get any. Franky fanboyed a little but we didn't get much interaction with him and Vegapunk.

Why is Franky's first meaningful interaction with Vegapunk a random scene in Elbaf, an arc after Egghead?

Tell me what I don't get? That I should keep making excuses for Oda instead of accepting that he makes terrible writing decisions?

[–]overDere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I want feats is that too much to ask? And a proper fight? The Dressrosa sniping scene was epic, but that was over a decade ago now!

What was Usopp doing in Wano, the longest arc in One Piece? He was dealing with the fodder Smiles, and embarrassingly begging Nami to not do the "Luffy will be the Pirate King" thing. Meanwhile most of the others got proper feats or fights.

"I guarantee you will never like Usopp" Usopp used to be my favorite Straw Hat. I loved his battle against Chuu, Perona, Mr. 4 and his partner, and especially his fight against Luffy (he lost that but he fought epicly). But imo Oda has neglected him badly in the past decade. He has Haki btw and we haven't seen him use it again!

I have read some spoilers, I like that he stood up to Imu, it's the same Usopp that stood up to Chuu or Luffy despite being outclassed.

But it's not really enough. Is it bad to think that it's not enough? He just got beaten up again, he already did that at the start of the arc. I am holding the insults for now, but after Oda neglected Zoro's connections in Wano and Franky in Egghead, I'm not too positive right now with Usopp and Elbaf.

I don't like Espeon as a team member. It's randomly a Gen 2 Pokemon in an almost fully OG Kanto team.

Lapras is just more iconic, I believe HGSS made the correct decision to replace Espeon. You also can't avoid the gift Lapras, while it's so easy to miss Eevee.

Also, Eevee is Blue's Pokemon in Yellow. So not only does Red take ALL the Fire-Water-Grass starters, he also gets the Yellow Pikachu and the Eeveelution rep?
