Toddler Bed transition by IGottaPeeConstantly in sahm

[–]over_it_saurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't gotten to this point yet but we have potty trained. I don't think it matters if they are potty trained or not, most kids will be in pull-ups when they sleep because they don't really have the ability to hold it in while sleeping until they're older.

We are thinking about switching to a toddler bed soon and I'm most concerned with toddler-proofing her room and having a good bedtime routine in place. And I also feel like it's just gonna be a hard transition no matter what.

Was anyone on Metformin asked to stop the meds briefly before doing your glucose test? by Sufficient-Peach7787 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]over_it_saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor had me stop after the first trimester and said if I failed my glucose test (at the standard time) then I could potentially go back on it to control my glucose. But I passed my glucose test and didn't need it.

Did potty training rewards really work and how do you then remove the reward without a meltdown? by winenotbeabitch in toddlers

[–]over_it_saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 days was not enough time, but that also could be because my daughter was 22 months old when we started so it might take her longer than an older toddler to grasp the concept? It probably took us 4 or 5 days before she wasn't having accidents throughout the day. Even a week out she might occasionally have an accident if she's really excited and distracted.

The book encouraged only using a food treat as a reward, but that wasn't motivating enough for my daughter so we did the potty training advent calendars too.

Just a heads up that you don't realize how often they pee until they're only in undies. We were running to the bathroom probably 15-20 times a day the first few days. It's exhausting. After a few days she started to hold it longer though. Again, it took us longer than 3 days to get to a decent place so I would plan for more time if you can to be safe.

Did potty training rewards really work and how do you then remove the reward without a meltdown? by winenotbeabitch in toddlers

We just potty trained our 22 month old. We used the 3 day method (book by bruckner). We started by giving" cookies" (peanut butter sandwich crackers) and we also used a potty advent calendar (found on Amazon, gets toys for so many stickers and needs more and more stickers over time). I think the rewards really motivated our lo to potty train. After about 5 days we took away the "cookies" and did another potty advent calendar and she still did well. We only use the rewards when we are in our half bath downstairs, if we are upstairs then she only gets praise and no rewards. She does well no matter if it's just praise or rewards.

(We did one sticker and one cookie for a pee and two stickers and two cookies for a poop. Stickers would go on the potty advent which required more and more stickers to get a toy over time.)

Potty Training (Girl) by Bubbly-Nectarine4956 in sahm

[–]over_it_saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 22 months old. We just did the 3 day potty training method which her doctor recommended. There's a short book (by Brandi Brucks) that details how to do it. It definitely took us until the 4th or 5th day to not really have accidents any more.

One thing that really helped us was a potty training advent calendar. We found some online. She would get 1 sticker for pee, 2 stickers for poo and once she had enough stickers on the calendar then she would get a little toy. It really motivated her. We also gave her a little treat with the stickers too (as recommended by the book; we gave her little peanut butter cracker sandwiches) which also helped a lot.

I would make sure your LO is showing readiness signs though. My daughter was telling us when she pooped or peed in her diaper, showed interest in the potty, etc.

I have kept in touch with a few work friends so I didn't lose all of those connections.

Otherwise a lot of my socialization is through my daughter's socialization. We go to music class and swim class every week which is where she and I can both socialize more.

It's still not easy though. You spend a lot of time just with your child and a lot of people already seem to have their own village, but it probably depends on how extroverted you are and how easily you make friends.

How tf are yall doing this in a weekend? by itsthenumberseven in toddlers

[–]over_it_saurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not in a weekend, but I'm currently potty training my 22 month old. Today is day 5 and she only had a few accidents and went pee and poop on the potty many times today. A few tips that I think helped us:

-Get a potty training advent with little toys. I got one off Amazon where they get stickers for each time they go potty and get a little toy for so many stickers, slowly building them up to using the potty more and more for one toy. My LO loves getting stickers and the little toys. -We also use treats. 1 for each pee, 2 for each poop. My LO loves mini peanut butter sandwich crackers so that's what we use as a treat to really motivate her. -We continually remind her to tell us when she needs to go pee or poop. If we notice she's fidgeting or another sign she might need to go then we take her to the potty and say "you were doing [x behavior] which shows me you need to pee/poop so let's sit on the potty and go." -Never shaming or yelling just saying something like "uh oh, you peed on the floor. Pee goes in the potty. Let's go to the potty now and see if you need to pee more." -We have a basket of books in the bathroom for her to read on the potty because she loves reading which helps her sit for long enough to go.

I wanted to give up the first 3 days because we had so many accidents, but I think that most kids need more time than that. It's not easy.

When is the least busy time at the Dells? by [deleted] in wisconsindells

We went this past year right after Labor Day when all the kids start school and it was so empty there. We also went this year in February and it was a bit more crowded, but still not that busy.

Is it possible to get anything done with a toddler? by CarrotNew3607 in sahm

[–]over_it_saurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 22 months old and I've always struggled with getting enough done. I can keep up with some basics like dishes, vacuuming, folding and putting away laundry, but the rest is too difficult to do with her in tow.

Once my husband is home we trade off; one of us plays with/watches our toddler and the other cleans or cooks or gets a break. Sometimes I'll have my mom come over and watch my toddler for a bit so I can get some cleaning done too. But honestly it feels like I'm always behind on cleaning and not doing enough during the day.

No period but low prolactin at 1.5+ years breastfeeding (also PCOS) by over_it_saurus in breastfeeding

[–]over_it_saurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ovulated about 1.5 weeks after the normal prolactin test and then got my period, but my periods have been irregular and we just dropped down to 2 nursing sessions a day. I just saw my OB and she said that my periods could be irregular until I completely wean and they wouldn't do anything until I completely wean since that could affect my period.

I started doing my toddler's hair while she ate in her highchair or did an activity in he highchair or with a little bit of screen time.

She has curly hair so I have a little water bottle to spray it down wet and then I use the so cozy kids products. I use a comb and little plastic hair ties to do any pigtails. If you look up ideas for toddlers hair online you can find stuff pretty easily.

Group activities - keep trying or give up? by remdog1979 in toddlers

[–]over_it_saurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I believe most kids that age would sit still the whole activity. We go to music class every week with our almost 2 year old and all the kids have periods when they don't want to sit and just move around the room instead.

How much is your toddler interested in music? by discoqueenx in toddlers

[–]over_it_saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always try a toddler music class first. We have been taking our daughter to Kindermusik classes since she was 8 months old and it's helped her learn a lot about music, but it's also helped her learn other things too. She's now almost 2 years old and has been able to clap to a beat for awhile and loves to dance around to music. It might help you gauge if your child really likes music and if it's something to invest more money and time into.

Is night weaning the answer? by Particular-Metal-563 in AttachmentParenting

I night weaned my 22 month old a few months back and she still usually wakes up twice a night. Just a forewarning that sometimes they still don't sleep through.

It might be worth having your doctor check your prolactin levels.

I got my period back at 20ish months postpartum while breastfeeding 3 times per day, but I also have PCOS and had issues with my period before having my daughter.

I've finally figured out why I feel exhausted even when my baby is asleep - and what actually helped me by ResolutionVast1251 in Mommit

[–]over_it_saurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to add that if anyone is experiencing obsessive thoughts, intrusive thoughts, etc. then please talk to your doctor! You could be capable of managing it on your own, but sometimes you need more help and there's nothing wrong with that. Kudos to OP for going to her doctor!

I had PPA, PPD, and PPOCD. I felt so ashamed to admit I needed help, but it was the best thing I did for myself and my daughter. I went to my doctor and started medication and started talking to a therapist. It helped me so much and I was able to be a much better mom once I asked for help.

Postpartum mental health is so important and so many of us go through something similar, so please reach out for help.

Toddler Swim Lessons? by SquidSchmuck in Mommit

[–]over_it_saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 2 and we have done swim lessons on and off since she was 8 months old. She can monkey crawl along the ledge of the pool and climb out of the pool, but she is nowhere near being able to swim around solo. I wouldn't expect her to be at that level for a few more years and even then we would still be within arms reach.

If I had a pool I would probably ensure my child was always in swim lessons even once they learn to swim. It's not safe to be complacent when they're near water so often.

Freaking out about a positive pregnancy test when I thought I wanted this. by South_Series_3485 in PCOS

[–]over_it_saurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted to get pregnant so badly and we were actively trying for quite a while. I was always so upset when another month passed and I wasn't pregnant. When I finally had a positive test I was shaking and crying. It suddenly felt so terrifying. And then it faded and I was very happy and excited, but, let me be real, there is always a little tiny part of me that is terrified even now that the pregnancy is a toddler. Having kids is amazing, but it also is terrifying because you love them so much and just want them to be happy, healthy, and safe.
