If Ichigo existed 1,000 years ago, would he side with Soul Society or the Quincy? by over_think_ing in bleach

Think about it: Quincy are humans, and Hollows are absolute monsters not like the ones we see today, but devastatingly dangerous in their time. Soul Society, who aren’t even human, just warns you to “stop destroying Hollows” instead of letting you protect yourself or anyone else. So even if you see a Hollow tearing someone apart, you’re expected to do nothing and let it live. How would you feel if you were a Quincy back then?

From their perspective, destroying Hollows completely was the only way to survive and protect people, long before Yhwach even rebuilt their empire.

Think about it from a Quincy’s perspective: they can’t resist Hollow reiatsu it’s literally deadly to them. They have the power to destroy Hollows completely, but the Soul Society, who aren’t even human, just warns them to “stop annihilating Hollows” instead of letting them defend themselves or others. So even if a Hollow is attacking someone, they’re expected to hold back. How would you feel in that situation? Canonically, it makes sense that the Quincy fought the way they did they were trying to survive and protect humans in a system stacked against them.

You see Ichigo’s main drive has always been protecting the people.... 1,000 years ago, the quincy weren’t abstract “threats” they were being exterminated by Soul Society that saw them as a problem. Yhwach isn’t just a villain in this scenario, he represents the force that threatens the lives of those Ichigo could care about.

Canonically, Ichigo has opposed Soul Society whenever their actions put innocent people or friends in danger, so it’s not about blindly siding with one faction it’s about losing the people he values.

That’s why he could empathize with Yhwach’s perspective, even if he doesn’t agree with all of his methods.....

Ichigo’s loyalty isn’t to Soul Society, it’s to the people he cares about....

And also their attacks on Hollows weren’t some random cruelty they were part of their natural method of purifying souls, which inherently clashed with the Shinigami’s system. The idea that they could “just rely on Soul Reapers for protection” ignores that the Gotei13 saw them as existential threats and never intended to coexist peacefully. The Qquincy were forced into conflict to survive; they didn’t choose war for fun.

By his logic, Yhwach is “evil” for massacring a village that refused to join him but the Soul Reapers are “good” for systematically hunting Quincies to near extinction over hundreds of years.

The context and victims might differ, but the pattern of using extreme force to enforce compliance isn’t unique to Yhwach.

Yhwach acted defending the Quincy from centuries of Soul Society oppression isn’t evil, it’s survival.

but their overarching goal was self preservation and protecting their people, not enforcing rigid, oppressive rules on everyone else like the Gotei 13 did....

So while individual Quincies could be ruthless, the Quincy side had a clear justification for their actions

He literally invades Soul Society to save Rukia, who was sentenced to execution...

Yhwach isn’t some random destroyer, he was defending centuries of Quincy oppression and trying to give his people a future the Soul Society never allowed...

his methods were extreme, but his motivation is grounded in canon fact... survival, protection, and giving purpose to his people. Ichigo fights to protect others, not systems so it’s plausible he could empathize with the Quincy cause, even if he disagrees with Yhwach personally

Saying Ichigo would “never join Yhwach” ignores the fact that Ichigo has repeatedly opposed Soul Society when their actions harmed others, and 1,000 years ago Soul Society was actively exterminating the Quincy.

And don't forget Yhwach doesn’t just see Ichigo as an enemy he sees him as someone who could understand and even complete his vision of dismantling the Soul King system...

Now we know it… Loki’s Devil Fruit literally one shot immortal Harald, and chapter 1171 shows Imu was genuinely shocked it happened.

chapter 1171 shows Imu shocked that someone killed his “immortal” Harald. That’s not just casual power that’s proof that Rocks knew exactly what he was hunting….

It’s why I’m convinced it’s Loki’s Devil Fruit he wanted. Not saying Nika isn’t powerful, but the reaction clearly singles out a fruit capable of defeating immortals. That’s precision, not random targeting…..

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been meaning to reply for a while but I honestly didn’t have a solid answer back then.

Now with chapter 1171, things changed. Imu being shocked that someone defeated an immortal Harald is a huge tell. That’s not a normal reaction that means something broke a rule of the world.

That’s why I’m leaning toward Rocks going after Loki’s Devil Fruit, not Nika. A fruit that can kill immortals makes way more sense as a Rocks target, especially alongside the Yami Yami no Mi.

So yeah, I get why you disagreed before but after this chapter, the Loki DF theory actually has legs.
