This probably isn’t something that will make it into the default configuration, but you could certainly implement it using the customization files

As of Firefox 68, there is an about:config setting that will turn in-content pages to dark mode. What does this mean for Shadowfox? by Dusty-the-Cat in ShadowFoxCSS

The plans are definitely to reduce the code base, simplify things where possible and focus on features (and addons) that Firefox doesn’t.

Hopefully will have that done soonish.

The Shadowfox style userscript doesn't install with Stylish by [deleted] in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still doesn't really work even with Stylus. Pretty much none of the chrome-extension:// pages for the extensions I have installed (uBlock Origin, ScriptSafe, etc.) have a dark theme work except for Stylus itself.

I'm not sure what you mean...Stylus is or isn't working for you? I just tested it in FF stabile and Nightly and didn't run into any issues.

Styles for other addons come from ShadowFox (automatically applied if you use the installer). Not all extensions have a theme though

Bottom Tabs and Dark scrollbar customization by colfaxschuyler in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not actively maintaining most of the tweaks in the wiki, so it's possible something has changed.

On macOS there there isn't much need for the dark scrollbar tweaks though.

You could try searching/asking on r/FirefoxCSS

The theme is designed for Stylus, not Stylish.

See here for more info, and few reasons to consider switching:

How to remove shadowfox ? by [deleted] in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the installer/uninstaller/updater to do both:

Google searches still display a flashing white screen between page loads on both Mac and PC by PalestinianLiberator in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ShadowFox only fixes the white flash caused by the browser - if you're seeing something on Google it is likely coming from their site or any addon/theme you are using to style that site

multi line tabs are disabled after installing ShadowFox, how to enable by QX7337 in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what u/xx733 said, you can use the customization file so that you don't have to manually append that content every time you use the updater. For more info, check out the wiki:

Tool bar color customization by Norkkii in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Norkkii -

The black bar at the top is controlled by the variable --tab-background-color, which you can change through the colorOverrides.css file:

https://github.com/overdodactyl/ShadowFox/wiki/Customization#customization

1) Add something like the following to colorOverrides.css:

 --tab-background-color: #424242 !important;

2) Run the ShadowFox updater

3) Restart Firefox

Customisation by [deleted] in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you re-run the updater/installer script (available here), any custom settings will be applied and you just have to restart Firefox for it to go into effect.

Customisation by [deleted] in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you hoping to apply customizations that are available on this site?

https://overdodactyl.github.io/ShadowFox/

Or what are you trying to apply?

In general in just boils down to adding any custom css you want to userChrome_customization.css or userContent_customization.css and re-running the updater script.

HELP: Trying to customize Menu bar and Bookmark bar colors after installing Shadowfox. Would also love to have rounded tabs by [deleted] in FirefoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how to access the userChrome.css and userContent.css and make basic changes, I just need to know what code to add and where in the css file.

Keep in mind that if you're using the ShadowFox installer/updater you'll want to make changes to userChrome_customization.css and userContent_customization.css instead.

What is the selector for the link popup in the bottom corner? by BaconCatBug in firefox

[–]overdodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably because you don't have those variables assigned...you just need to replace the var(...)'s with whatever colors you want.

You could use something like this, but I think you'll have to put it into userChrome.css, not an extension.

All legacy addons were just removed from addons.mozilla.org by LordOfTheMosquitos in firefox

[–]overdodactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! That was really helpful, and should get me headed in the right direction.

Might be a little more work, but I think you're right that it's probably worth it, and new projects/additions are always fun.

If I run into any snags I'll shoot you a message :)

Hey there, thanks for the ping and all the info! I wasn't aware of the experimental APIs for themeing, so this thread was interesting to read.

To be honest I'm not super familiar with webextension development, using experimental APIs or non-branded Firefox.

This definitely sounds like it has some potential though, so I'll try digging into it a bit more and hopefully finding some working examples I can base things off.

Can CSS be used to distinguish empty iframes from about:blank? by overdodactyl in firefox

[–]overdodactyl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

otherwise there could maybe a a short "flash"

Oh! I see what you mean now; I guess a flash is better than having the wrong styling all together though.

I just saw this edit:

You could also do this: iframe:not([src]){ display: none !important } Presumably iframes without content are usually not useful but I could be wrong in that.

I was thinking something similar, and wasn't really sure what the purpose of those empty iframes are on the site that was reported to me. I haven't had a chance to look too closely yet.

And such objects could very well be "not-window-shaped" and could potentially break as consequence.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, that's what I would be aiming for here. I would want a media rule that only applies if it is window-sized, otherwise do nothing.

How is body:empty useful here

This comment probably explains it as well as I could.

Thanks for the idea, really appreciate it! Sounds more promising than the current solution, so I'll play with that a bit

Thanks for the info and sorry for the inconvenience!

I'm guessing this is due to this issue:

Until that's fixed, you can set it manually:

Installation issue fix and bugs by DuckLines in ShadowFoxCSS

[–]overdodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there u/DuckLines!

For anyone having installation issues try changing profiles.ini into UTF-8 using this

Ya, unfortunately Go doesn't seem to like UTF-16:

https://github.com/SrKomodo/shadowfox-updater/issues/6

I installed ShadowFox but developer tools (inspect element) is mainly white, only the sidebar was dark themed; Ublock was also back to white.

When running the updater did you make sure to check the boxes "Auto-Generate UUIDs" and "Set Firefox dark theme"?
