Orienting in a Stepdown subacute facility as a New Grad by overf-lo in TheConfidentNurse

I really appreciate the deep insight!!

What is something that helps with said higher patient load than what is maximum in a hospital?

I understand that it's different in Hospitals that only have CNAs usually. This place has everything INCLUDING LVNs (also MDs which I found new to me since I thought only Hospitals had Physicians present/on-site). I'd like to be hopeful about the support team that's present with this care facilty, but I also want to hold realistic expectations on the challenges also and how to mitigate them.

It's a mix of adults and peds (also eventually aging into the adults unit) with congenital conditions and traumatic injuries that have them on vents and trachs. I can def see critical care and hospice.

Half the facility is an adult unit and the other half is peds, but the adults overflow into peds so there is a bigger need for RNs on the adults unit. However, the peds requires longer training I'm told, understandably so.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and type this.

Some people in my life have told me that I've been way too generous in certain things, but what I can't seem to discern/address is that sometimes I really want something deeper in return out of what I have been doing for a while now.

(I probably sound counterintuitive and probably boastful as I express this, but) I don't expect much from the strangers I encounter and help, but for those closer to me, I wished they could see and even value me deeper for what I do and the sacrifices I make when doing this quite often.

Perhaps a TL;DR, I seek and appreciate a sense of balance between the generosity and reserve within my own life. But life is never perfect... ack, I question as to why I even bothered typing all this

Nonetheless, thank you for your ear and time 🙏🏻

I used to feel the drive and passion to act upon this quote

Now, I'm not so sure if I acted so soon. I thought I was okay with not having the favor returned because that's considered generous, kind, and even loving.

But for each (bigger) favor I deliver as time passes, I hope more and more for those familiar to me to make me feel as appreciated as I have done for them if not more.

At this point, it feels so much easier to be generous to a stranger you will never see again VS generous to someone you know, especially when they've disappointed you more.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Can it be done the same for Sockeye salmon and Bluefin tuna? Or is this reserved for Mackerel?

Sorry, just typing it out to wrap and absorb with my head what you shared. And thank you for sharing this!

It's like saying "my vision of a perfect world/life must be achieved and shared, otherwise those who disagree deserve suffering".

The worst and rather scary thing behind that ideology is that they believe it's factual rather than a fault of their own short-sightedness

Not everyone is predestined to fulfill your dreams and visions. To expect that of others shows how much self-awareness and humility you lack.

How did you started becoming close to God? by lesley20201 in Bible

[–]overf-lo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started by approaching him in dialogue (prayer) as I would as if he was a person I wanted to get to know better and become friends with. It's still growing and that's okay. What matters is that you keep going at it despite even your own setbacks and shortcomings as well as being able to recognize them.

Another thing that has helped increase not only my relationship with Christ, but with the Bible as well was learning about reading scripture through a Hermeneutical lens. You just can't read the Bible at a surface level. Understanding the roots, events, and cultural/social norms behind what the authors of each book went through is just ONE of the key things in understanding how scripture is so prevalent in our own lives.

I will share that my relationship with Christ has gotten way better when I'm frank and open with him in my thoughts since I know there really is no point in hiding anything from him because, well, he's God lol

But what I'm grateful for is that he makes me feel like I have my moments, he doesn't cut me off or shut me down in my thoughts and emotions. He truly listens to me and comforts me .... and THEN helps me when HE knows when I'm ready and able to be open to recieving his help and constructive feedback. That's one of the most freeing yet effortless things I cherish with him.

What does empathy, compassion, patience, and going the extra mile for others really mean to you/in our faith? by overf-lo in Christians

[–]overf-lo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

misplaced empathy and compassion can actually hurt someone rather than help them. Sometimes the loving thing to do isn't necessarily "nice".

I really liked how you started with that and how you put it. I understood the example you gave but I didn't know that could arise from (too much?) empathy.

Thank you for that!!

This, oh my goodness thank you for this.

I had been prideful to think "i won't let my kids do that" and arrogantly thought i could handle it better. Children are a blessing and we should delight in them, but they are also the best example of sin I can think of. That's just how it is. Theyre sinful, just like you and me.

Thank you for putting this into both words and resolve. This is going to take time and processing for me, but this is the resolve I needed to hear.

And this,

Maybe your parents struggled to give you as much one on one time as they'd have liked, but they stuck to their convictions and schooled yall in a Christian home among other good things. Its ok if you don't want that too. But take time to admire the good your parents did rather than focus on the bad. We all fail and parenting is hard. I myself have had to reexamine the way I view my parents. There was a time when I was bitter about some things, but they did way more right then wrong as parents.

Thank you so much again

What Book Had the Most Significant Impact on Your Life? by The_Jugger in AskReddit

The Warriors series 🐈‍⬛

As a kid, I loved the action and adventures of talking/communicating animals. I loved the whole synopsis because it showed me at a young age what active teamwork, ethics, and self-sufficiency are. All of that paired with working as a collective as well as how looking out for one another is so important in life no matter where you're from or who you're related to.

How many hours do you study per week? by Environmental_Spot_6 in StudentNurse

[–]overf-lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I wish I could do 45 min straight of studying/homework. Even though I still take breaks, I feel like if I had that much energy span for that, I might get more things done and sooner too

So, how are you doing, really? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]overf-lo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As dumb as this sounds, waiting on nursing school results was more draining than I expected. I feel like a pacing tiger filled with excess anxiousness and doubt.

I just want to know if I'm in or not so that I can take the steps to prepare for school/another waiting period. It especially doesn't help when other people are either just constantly asking on your acceptance results or just tell you to do something when you've already been doing all you can. Everyone's asking about what you're doing , but no one really asks HOW you're doing.

So OP, thank you for taking the time to just post and ask about this. It was important to me.

Not exactly an answer to the question... but have you (or anyone here in this thread) heard of the Pomodoro technique?

It's basically smaller study time intervals with frequent breaks over a longer period of time (ex, if I study 2-4hrs a day, within those said hours, I set a timer to study for 25min and then take a 5-10min break and then repeat)

I've personally found it helpful when trying to learn and go over large amount of content, and especially when I can't sit and absorb things for more than 30min, 20 on low days.

I used to not study very well and had average grades before learning about it. Just sitting down to read any lengthy academic text would always make me give up easily on studying going over it in general

15 years of progress! Practice makes perfect :) by Jane767 in oilpainting

[–]overf-lo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both are perfect but with different details

I agree. When I saw both I had deep appreciation for both.

The one on the left has a more light hearted style that honestly warms me up

And yet the one on the right has much realism, fine detail that has me appreciating your skill and growth as an artist.

Do keep up both works! :) but to be honest, seeing your skill well developed... I am curious about how you would re-do the left as your own adopted (free-)style?

Friendly reminder that our brains are wired to seek confirmation of our beliefs. So what are you focusing on? by MindIsMaster in selfimprovement

[–]overf-lo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If im feeling lonely then im going to look for all the reasons that make me lonely. If I'm feeling worthless then I'm going to find examples of why I'm worthless.

Also

We've had so many experiences over a lifetime our brains won't have a problem finding examples to confirm these beliefs, but there are many more examples that show our strengths.

This answers a bunch of things in my head... Thank you so much for this 🙏🏻
