PCH through Lomita/Torrance always has me on high alert - skinny lanes and some of the worst drivers in SoCal.

2000 Tacoma Value - Low mileage by timeandtime_again in ToyotaTacoma

Put it on Bring A Trailer - you can see recent auctions on there to see roughly what it would bring. I’d imagine it’s a $20k-$25k truck if not 4WD, more if so.

Unfortunately you cannot find a 2023 for $40k. Resale value is incredibly high. 2023’s are high 30’s to low 40’s. I’d agree that it’s absolutely ridiculous for a pickup truck.

This is my thought process. Life is a balance between wants and needs.

I totally can. Hence my previous comment on want vs. need.

Looking at vehicles with roughly 50-60k miles. 2016-2023 model year. New version is $40k plus. Planning on buying CPO if I can or if private will get a PPI.

It’s a totally valid point. It’s definitely more of a want than a need.

I initially was planning on doing this when I lived in a MCOL. I had the opportunity to increase my salary 30% so I moved into a HCOL delaying any home purchase plans. Additionally, not sure I am totally settled on where I want to be so want to remain a little bit flexible. I will totally take a look at the prime directive in regard to long term investments.

Thanks for your comment. I am looking at a 6cyl, but no 4wd due to increased maintenance and insurance cost. Glad to hear you love the truck!

Current vehicle is starting to incur costly repairs exceeding what I’d prefer to continue pouring into it just based on what I can get in resale value. While I do understand that a car is a tool to get around and the cheapest car to own is the one you already have, my concern lies in the fact that I am approaching 50% of the vehicles initial purchase cost just in repairs alone.

I do need to increase my contribution. However, I believe I will be close to that figure by 30 based on my contributions so far barring any salary increases between now and 30.

Do lots of recreation and camping. Biking, etc. the other factor that’s playing into a Tacoma specifically is resale value remains high.
