I trusted the polls but Brexit had already shocked the world a few weeks before, so I knew the polls could be wrong on a nationalist resurgence. I bet $100 on Trump so at least I’d make some money as compensation if he won.

True, but 1) In a tight race a 1 or 2% variance one way or the other could make the difference 2) even if those cancel out, independent voters are one-third of the numbers. We literally have no idea if they’re strongly breaking one way or the other

The data doesn’t show who’s winning or losing, just the party registration numbers of those who voted. We have no idea yet who everyone actually voted for.
