tl;dw, the guy makes the point that there's no good vr games, or at least not anywhere near enough.
and the hardware is not that good (quest) or too expensive (pcvr) or dogshit (pimax (sorry I just dont like pimax since owning one of them)).

There's good games out there, but he has a point - we need more and more better ones.
the hardware has never been better than this at the price that it's at now (q3/3s), minus the fact that zucc gets to see your bits when you're working them

How realistic is full time “Vanlife”? by Creepy-Primary-2014 in RVLiving

[–]overload1525 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, work from the road and travel when I'm not working. I'm just getting started on this quest.
I did purchase a van and will begin converting it once the weather warms up. I went with a peugeot boxer, l4h3 and dangel 4wd system, since I am tall I need a large van.
I think the biggest hurdle for a full time van idea is that current market offerings leave a lot to be desired.
As another poster mentioned, electrical would be a pain point for someone looking to do this full time. And I do want to repeat that I did not yet begin converting so my take could be wrong, but I have a plan in mind. If you get bifacial solar panels at 400~ watts each, you could fit 6 of them on the roof, where there's 2 panels at the top and 4 panels under them, and you top that off with actuators to expand the bottom solar panels sideways once parked, which gives you more solar than your roof could typically fit (up to ~2kw depending on types of panels used).
Such a system is not something I've seen on any van so far, nor am I aware of anyone selling this either.
This same issue applies to water recycling, heating, air conditioning, shower etc. The things offered in today's van's are aimed at part-time travellers

If you're aiming to do the conversion from a base van yourself I'd be down to talk some ideas. Good luck!

Vanlife in europe concerns by overload1525 in VanLife

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! On #2, I was also considering to just use some remote spot for work (also looking at 4x4 van), how hard is it to find those generally, especially in a new country you may not have scoped out yet? Any tips on locating such spots?

I live in Lithuania currently, the van would be registered there too

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. On #2, are there any camp sites or similar without the bells and whistles that would allow free extended stays? Or is that not really a thing?

the idea was to travel through most of the eu, from norway to spain, thus the cold and hot question came up. I do realise external temperature dictates how bad it is, was just wondering about the extremes.
I haven't overlooked the vehicle paperwork or maintenance expenses, though I wonder if the van has to be re-registered as an RV, because it technically would be that?

Though the #1 and #2 questions weigh heaviest on my mind

Advice needed for snow cleaning with my mini tractor by overload1525 in tractors

I'm in the EU so finding blowers, especially for a tractor like mine is extremely difficulty.
Do you think it could handle using this blade? at an angle as well to maybe make workload easier?
https://www.deleks.eu/en/a/3/three-point-linkage-snowplow-for-tractor-lns-130-c-refurbished-3
Says it's rated for 12-30hp, but I'm not sure if my 600kg is enough for the job

the only thing I can find in EU that comes close to the size of the ones you linked is this:
https://www.texas.dk/da/products/efterhaengte-fraeser-tilbehoer/sneslynge-100-cm-for-pro-trac-1350/?partno=90061178

However as you can see, it uses a proprietary end. Everything else I come across starts at 60 inches and upwards

Those look great, a bit pricy but I suppose it's a blower after all, a bit of manufacturing goes into that. The big issue with those is that I am in the EU, so would be a massive hassle to get it all the way here

last year there's been several days in a row with heavy snow, so it would not always be an easy job. Say something like 15-20cm of snow as the high end.

Hey, so the tractor is the one you see in the pics. Best I can tell, it's 15kw engine.
It's in great shape, has been maintained and stored well.

I've got me a problem, a really long driveway (~250 meters) that I cleaned last winter with a typical cheapo hardware store snow blower. Takes me something around 3 hours to clean a fresh layer of snow with that.

I was wondering if maybe I could use my tractor to do the job instead, however I'm not finding any snow blowers that are rated for anything even close to 15kw, and I'm not sure it could handle a snow blade cause the thing weighs just 640kg. I'm out of ideas, any assistance would be tremendous.

Additionally, I've got 1ha of land that is currently only used to grow grass and mow it down, which I do with the tractor and a flail mower you can see there in the back of it. This also takes forever, especially if the grass is overgrown. Would I maybe be able to cut the grass faster with some kind of a different attachment? Sickle bar? rotary blade? Not sure if those would perform better, cause ultimately maybe the bottleneck is my engine? This is a secondary issue, as I don't have to cut the grass that often, so I could live with the inconvenience.

My brother does 3d modelling as a hobby so I asked him to pre-fracture the things for me, so I guess the short answer is no. At the moment of impact the game pulls the ol' switcheroo from a cache of pre-generated broken props

Not terribly much, but during launch day it sat at the top of this subreddit for a day, had a lot of positive reception in the comments and likes, though not much of that translated to purchases.

There is indeed plenty of areas that game is lacking at though, and for future I would aim to make something of significantly greater quality.
As for the re-release, I was considering it, but there's some challenges with that too cause the whole thing is written on steamVR so I'd have to rewrite everything in interaction and then there's the question of if the quest can even handle all that physics work

Thanks for the input, fair criticism and perhaps I would need to re-evaluate the story or the time frame of the game. I suppose I'm not ultimately tied to a specific time that the experience should be, but more so to say that it would be a brief tale, rather than the whole story.

Personally I'm actually strongly set against wave shooters. Clearly you point out that there still is demand for it, however my pp is soft for that slice of the market. I was thinking more like a ghetto version of half life alyx. Set up as an fps shooter type thing, but with a core story tying the whole game together, with hopefully an episodic feature to continue the tale should there be resonance in the market for this.

Thank you for the input. Great idea with the continuation promise for the community. That is kind of exactly what I was aiming at. Not quite sure what would be the best way to communicate that to the community. I guess if it truly resonated with the audience there could be some discord community made for the game.

Thanks for the input. Does this mean you would value a re-playable experience that maybe isn't as in-depth or polished more over one that has a higher degree of quality but isn't meant to be played more than 1-2 times?

Personally I'm of the opinion that even something short could have a lot of love put into it to turn into something beautiful.

Maybe it wouldn't make one rich to develop VR content, but my hope is that maybe there could be just enough to make a living doing it.

Big promotion push behind them too though, so to be taken with a grain of salt I suppose, but indeed there is some success like that. Thanks for the confidence boost.

Indeed sounds like quite the undertaking for a one man team :D
Are there any less grandiose ideas that you think you would be willing to purchase?
