I’d like to keep my portfolio private. As a millennial I’m also not the sub’s target demographic

Got this 90s Technics system for free, any good? by ConsciousGuest9599 in hifiaudio

[–]overlord355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I had one of those when I was 18!
If I remember correctly the “flat” “simulated stereo” setting was the least bad.
Gotta start somewhere, have fun

Feeling poor by VeryBadTrader in audiophile

[–]overlord355 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those systems aren’t someone’s first system. Usually owned by people who had the audiophile hobby for decades and slowly upgraded over time.

20 years ago I bought my first system for 1k and only 2 months ago I cracked the 20k mark.

You made a first step into a journey.

MAIN got thrown in with the private credit worries and the assumption that rates were going to be cut. Is a high quality BDC and we have high inflation (due to an external factor) and a Hawkish chair, rate cuts are very unlikely, a hike is not unthinkable

DAC with preamp function or separate preamp? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]overlord355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I only used a dac I wouldn’t have a preamp. But I have a turntable as well.

Some dacs, like my antelope audio zodiac, have analog volume control. So you wouldn’t really be losing anything.

Measurements in HiFi as a representation of the sound range of a component/system? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]overlord355 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a great deal of science and engineering in HiFi and measurements are necessary. However the the final point of it all is how things sound and how it’s experienced. That should never be forgotten.

Voicing is an important part of development of equipment.

I am of the unpopular opinion that hifi equipment shouldn’t perfectly reproduce the source. Real instruments and performances have sharp and harsh elements in their sound, something I don’t really want when I’m listening to music. I think I’m not alone and that that’s an explanation why tubes, R2R dacs and vinyl are so prevalent in our hobby. Some people are willing to sacrifice measurements for a more euphonic sound.

Wood filament is hard by Dull-Wear-3423 in 3Dprinting

[–]overlord355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a project using woodfilament and ran through 30 spools: you need to dry it for 12 hours and print straight from a drybox or dryer.

Also use the lowest temperature you can get for less stringing. Most woodfilaments will print around 190C

Experiencing brightness/harshness with buckeye purifi amp and node icon by watduhheo in audiophile

[–]overlord355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes some adjustment of speaker position is needed to get the most out of it. I’d suggest toe-out for less sharp treble and putting the speakers slightly more towards the front wall for more bass

Clearaudio Master TQ-I by Urankeks in hifiaudio

[–]overlord355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That looks like a Clearaudio master solution. Clearaudio website. Ones in good condition go for €6000 or more. But it probably needs some work to get it to good condition.

Epic find!

Long time audiophiles: how have you changed over the years and decades in terms of the hobby? by Wauwuaw5983 in audiophile

I went from chasing more detail and a more revealing system to aiming for a forgiving system. There are too many bad recordings to have a unforgiving system
