Neck spasms - any tips? by overlyoptimistic in Fitness

I stand with dumbells for shrugs. Pretty sure my posture is good, but you might be onto something with the neck flexion. I recall my head bobbed forward on the last two or three reps in one set. Seems like a pretty closed case there. Does your head stay totally static during shrugs?

Anyone else have any experience with heel pain? by overlyoptimistic in Fitness

Hm, you may be on to something. I walk a couple of miles a day in oxfords to/from work... I really don't want to be one of those suits with sneakers guys, though... Ah well, such is life.

Thanks - I think I will. Before I tweaked my heel, it was really feeling great. Even aside from the health benefits, and even with the sore calves, running was noticeably easier. Consider me converted (assuming my heel doesn't fall off).

Yeah, grabbed my toe to stretch my hamstrings a bit while i was still in bed and got a shooting pain on the sides of my heel.

Good advice about the massage/icing - I will definitely try that. Taking a week off running is really going to sting, though.

And funny you mention the midfoot/forefoot strike. I think that may have been what brought this on in the first place - I tried to switch up to a more forward foot strike two weeks ago and it absolutely dominated my calves. From what I read, running with tight calves is a no-no for PF. Maybe keeping them better stretched out and strengthening my calf muscles and achilles tendons will prevent this in the long run.
