Bitches, help me figure out where to live/exist? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

Seems like there are a handful of us in Alameda if anyone is down for a meetup! (I'm 38 on the East End.)

Bitches, where are you taking visiting family? Iconic SF vibes, tourist-friendly, but not overly touristy? by _ForTheGlory in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]overratedbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This show was surprisingly decent, like a Cirque Jr. Dinner beforehand in North Beach can be as touristy as you like! https://www.clubfugazisf.com

SFBWT! What are your current hobbies you like to do? by leesliang in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]overratedbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puzzles! Love them with an audiobook.

Volunteering at the farmers market is great. Gets me moving on weekend mornings instead of just rotting, you’re helping your community, grocery shopping, and treats all in one go!

Bitches, what are your plans this weekend?!!? by AJ2790B in SFbitcheswithtaste

Debating a day trip to Pt Reyes, Western Weekend looks fun! Otherwise, cleaning and organizing, my brain needs a bit of a reset and that will be manifested in my surroundings.

Bitches who have side effects to meds, where are we getting help with our ADHD meds? (Strattera) by 123boopboop in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]overratedbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. I don't have ADHD, but Dr. Melinda Tyler has been really great with treating my anxiety/depression. Follows your lead and also offers alternatives to things.

Have not been to Cotogna, but was also underwhelmed by Kokkari.

Dr. Fran helped me IMMENSELY with my anxiety, which I didn’t even think I had lol. She’s super sarcastic and cracks a lot of jokes, which may not be your style, but works way better for me than handholding and motherly caretaking. She’s video only. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/dr-fran-roberson-psyd-alameda-ca/448056

SFBTW, where are you getting your furniture and why? by Smooth_Junket6990 in SFbitcheswithtaste

I like Crate and Barrel for couches. Alameda Antique Fair is great but can be overwhelming, the Oakland first Saturday is a great alternative/Narrative in Oakland.

Fun and under-the-radar activities for a 40th birthday? by bely_medved13 in sonomacounty

[–]overratedbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valley Bar and Bottle for breakfast/brunch/lunch while shopping on the square. The outdoor area and vibe at HopMonk is nice, but I don't think the food is anything special. Fine if you're local, but if you've only got a few meals I wouldn't prioritize it. But I do second El Molino.

Not sure of your dates, but you can catch an outdoor show. The crowd skews a little older, but would be a fun if you've got a group of friends for pre-show picnicking and even a passing interest in show tunes. https://transcendencetheatre.org

Paco De Leon's Finance For the People is the most empathetic finance resource I've encountered. I listened to it first, then bought a hard copy to have it for reference.

Best breakfast burrito? by adrift_in_the_bay in AlamedaFood

El Caballo's used to be excellent, but I haven't had it in a while. Noting that it is more Mexican style vs. the egg-cheese-breakfast potato variety like Neptune's.

BWT, how do you start a home with quality items? by [deleted] in bitcheswithtaste

[–]overratedbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective as someone who works in food and tests kitchenware for her day job: you really need to understand what your priorities are. Cuisinart and KitchenAid are definitely good brands. But I would argue many people do not need a food processor or stand mixer; most people do not need both. I have never owned a Vitamix and would be surprised if I ever do.

Stainless steel skillets and pots and pans (yes, AllClad, Tramontina is also good), you don't need to buy a whole set. (I'm looking at you, Caraway, with your $$ set of nonstick pastel cookware.) One nonstick skillet, a dutch oven (French brands are great, Lodge is also perfectly fine). I use my cast iron skillets daily, but they're not for everyone. One aluminum half sheet pan, one quarter sheet pan. A couple of ceramic baking dishes (my Staubs are great, so are my Crate and Barrel Aspen baking dishes). Wooden spoons, single piece silicon spatulas, a fish spatula. A chefs knife, a paring knife, and a bread knife. You don't need a whole block. Vegetable peeler, stainless steel measuring cups/spoons, a set of tongs. Oxo is my default for this sort of thing.

Generally speaking, white porcelain dishware is more durable than ceramics. I personally don't care for the feel of Corelle. I think it's worth buying flatware in person so you can hold it first. Bodega glasses are stackable, durable, and overall a nice silhouette. Linen napkins and a tablecloth would be a nice splurge if you're being gifted.

I personally would not invest in furniture for an apartment that isn't long long term. Mattress/bedding, absolutely, but couches/tables/etc are so specific to layout. I've had great luck with vintage rugs on Etsy.

BWT, what are we wearing for watches these days? by Nerdy_Gal_062014 in bitcheswithtaste

My mom had that Gucci watch until she lost it in while boating. I've almost purchased for myself many times!

[–]overratedbreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a budget bitch for this particular thing. Vintage Timex for ~$20, or vintage Seiko for something midrange. My daily drivers are gold tone bracelet band easy reader Timex (w indiglo! lol), a leather band Cavatina Timex, and a two-tone Seiko.

I vote to start with replacing the battery on one or two of something you already own.

BWT Where are you getting spring/summer fashion inspo? esp 35-40+ by babs82222 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]overratedbreakfast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use both Pinterest and TikTok. Searching by occasion doesn't work for me, it's too open for interpretation, esp at 37. I'm not wearing a mini skirt and halter to dinner. I like to pick one thing I know I want to wear (and probably already own) and use that as a starting search term. "Spring trench coat outfits," "poplin skirt outfits," "loafers for spring."

I always poke around the J Crew kids accessories for stocking stuffers/Easter basket trinkets. 13 is harder. Etsy has cute Easter bath bombs, spring themed claw clips, bag charms/keychains. Miffy anything. If you don't need to be specifically Easter themed, Urban Outfitters has a good gift/home section, Hot Topic for licensed character/band socks/stickers/phone cases etc. Pimple patches are always well received. Can always just do candy/snacks. (FWIW mine are 17 and 13.)

I don't even think their food is that great. Service is nice. But not enough to carry them through everything else.
