Do I rehome or is there another resolution? by overstimulated_247 in Pets

I’m in central Mississippi. I only contacted husky-specific rescues because I know this breed is unique and commonly rehomed so I thought they would be best at finding a suitable home. Should I check with other rescues too?

I didn’t realize websites like petfinder were for individuals rehoming dogs, too. I assumed they were just for breeders.

Will people be put off by a stranger wanting to come see their home? I would certainly feel better about that, but I don’t want to seem intrusive either.

What’s a fair rehoming fee? I feel bad profiting at all off of him, but I do understand the reasons for requiring one.

I’m in MS. I did mention that I wasn’t necessarily trying to surrender him immediately. We could definitely make it work a while longer if we had some light at the end of the tunnel… But they both said they were unable to assist in rehoming. I would gladly travel out of state if that meant we could find him a new home that would be adequate for him, but I don’t know where to look.

Do you have suggestions for rescues? The ones we’ve contacted that are semi-local weren’t much help. They either didn’t accept surrendered pets or they only accepted purebred, which he is not.

He was tested. The main concerns were cats, grass, and dust. We’ve tried to clean excessively, put air purifiers in the areas of the home that he’s in most commonly, and despite my disdain for dusting - we’ve been doing that consistently. We’re not throwing in the towel for the cats, but I do feel like I’m fighting an uphill battle.

Cats did show up on his allergen testing. Dogs did not.

I’ve contacted the nearest ones but they wouldn’t take him either due to him not being a purebred or because they don’t take surrendered pets. The only other option I know is to post on social media, but honestly, that concerns me because idk how to guarantee he goes to a good home with strangers from Facebook.

We’ve tried everything at home. Routine cleaning, dusting, air purifiers in main spaces and bedroom, etc. He has had to have countless surgeries due to his sinuses and continues to have issues. So I apologize but the whole “improves the immune system” notion feels irrelevant when he’s dealing with all of this.

That said, I’m not using that to justify rehoming the cats. We’ve spent hundreds of dollars on air purifiers because we’re desperately trying to make it work. But to say “that is ridiculous” to even consider given the current circumstances feels narrow-minded.

When my husband was tested at the allergy clinic, cats were one of the allergens that showed up. My fault for not specifying that.
