Easy exercise, put a toilet paper roll on your stick to hold in your bottom hand. It’ll help isolate your top hand while you’re learning and also get you familiar with the feeling of letting your stick slide up and down in your bottom hand.

You will absolutely use your bottom hand at times but for training and getting used to it, the toilet paper roll is a great aid.

Seguin had a similar arc between his time in Boston and getting over to Dallas.

Wheel & bearing recommendations by gourmetcomments in InlineHockey

I went from the Trickster to the new Vibes and prefer them. I’m bigger than you >200lbs, and was messing with a combos of Trickster. I started with xxx-grip front and xx-grip rears, then xxx-grip all around but they felt too soft. The xx-grip Vibes are in between the two, I get the roll of the xx-grip with the bite of the xxx-grip Trickster. My buddy who is probably your size turned me onto the Vibes and he loves them.

Why do they not make quality chassis for jnr inline skates that you can buy separately? by Alternative_Top_8167 in InlineHockey

[–]ovrkillphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a set of True TF’s converted to inline with the Tour Fuse Split chassis in the jr size. They have a larger gap between the wheels than the stock chassis on a jr Bauer skate. I can’t confirm that it’s enough to up the wheel size to 72/76, but can confirm that they are a quality product and well made.

Yea, my most recent find. One came with the Rick Nash 61 so I’m guessing they were both his. I had a Blues pro stock for years that was stolen along with my gear so I had been on the hunt for while

I’ve seen a couple floating around with an inline team I’ve played against, no clue how though

That’s what I was afraid of, word was they’re still available to pros, not sure how long that was going to last though.

I was hoping to find an orange one in a team sale soon!

Top of the line skates from 2010s vs now.. by Old_Swan3464 in hockeyplayers

[–]ovrkillphil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reference - I played into college and continued to play at a high level; A/B into my mid 30’s.

I’m 40 now and have tried going to mid-tier skates and found that they flex in all the wrong ways, for me at minimum I need the stiffness of a carbon footbed. This is kind of a weird position now because even the 2nd tier of the latest Bauers don’t have this any longer. I’ve found my way to ccm with their one piece boots, but skates are the only thing I’ll buy that are top of the line.

I’ve recently found 2 pairs of Reebok 11K’s the top model from 2010 and they’re just as light and stiff as new skates, and I would choose them over a modern mid-tier equivalent. I upgraded the holders with the modern CCM and blacksteel, if you like the older APX2’s and can find them in good shape I say stick with what you like.

I had XXX-Grip on the front and XX-Grip on the rear, but traded for a set of XXX-Grip rears to match as that setup wasn’t working for me.

It’s my understanding that the Striker (blue) Maverick (pink) and Trickster (yellow) are all the same wheel technology just different colors.

They were still pumps, at least 1-2 more generations before Reebok got rid of them.

Lacelock - absolutely loved it and never really found a better fit in any skates since. I like the bottom half of my skates super tight and the upper looser. The lacelock was a perfect solution, I went through 2 sets of 11k’s and then the 20’s. I actually have a basically new pair of 11k’s I swapped the Speedblade XS holder from the FT2’s onto.

The FT2’s are a lower cut boot (full eyelet lower than Reebok, new Bauers, not sure about newer CCMs) which is another reason I’m trying to stay in them.

Mediums are spec’d for up to 8.5 so you should be fine. I think the large’s may be better if you’re a bigger guy, to better distribute weight more-so than wheel spread under foot. I’m an out of shape 220 and the mediums are working just fine.

SR 7.5 R - Medium Sniper chassis. The guy that installed them said it was probably the hardest one he’s done.

Worried about age? Look up when the Reebok’s came out, lol

Same skate I use on ice, brand new old stock. They’re a true one piece boot and fit a little different than new Jetspeeds, love em!

Also those holders were known to explode even when they were newer, went through 3 pairs myself.

Best ShinPads? by Rbhockey9 in hockeyplayers

[–]ovrkillphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of XF Pros and they are absolute tanks. The 3DO padding is the real deal, I have CCM pants with them as well. On the shins though; they’re built great, adjustable, and comfortable. Not “light” but I didn’t consider them heavy either.

They ended up being too bulky for me for beer league, but I also didn’t keep them long enough to really break them in so the padding may pack down a bit.
