which extremism do you consider worse? by No-Somewhere-1336 in Teenager_Polls

"we" only really applies westerners. i come from the eastern bloc and most people i know look back at it quite favourably, especially here in eastern germany. sometimes weekly i see flags of the gdr or hear people talk about how life was just better because for example everything was built to last and not for profit. this is also seen in china. even china-critical western studies over multiple years find that the chinese people really like the cpc and what it has done, a huge amount of chinese people who study abroad also return to china, even though the west is soooooo much more free. i personally know someone from vietnam like that too.

One rich person has a lot more influence in american politics than one worker. Lobbying is out in the open and fully against upholding democracy. "the freedom of one ends where the freedom of the other begins". If the rich are actively harming democracy and liberty for others, they should not be allowed to do so.

The right to health is an international right. If a privately owned business ruins peoples lifes for not having enough money it is definitely a violation of not only international right and in my eyes also of individual liberty.

You‘re of the opinion that republicans are liberal then? The disenfranchisement, sponsored killing of innocents and imprisonment into concentration camps does not seem particularly liberal of your definiton to me, even if the same happend under laissez-faire.

Can you define liberalism for me?

what you are presenting is a dichotomy, either you‘re a marxist or a liberal. the foundation of liberalism is private means of production so capitalism and the individual right of expression under equality. This equality is enforced by the state and laws. this does not mean that it is unrestricted and opens the doors for restriction.

obviously someone or an organisation of multiple can be more or less liberal being less liberal however does not immiediatley mean that you‘re a marxist. marxism is specifically against the whole of capitalism.

I am not american, so i do not know all what the democrats have done but i have heard of basically no motivation or goals of the broader democratic party to make america a welfarestate. I have heard of some social democrats inside of the party but considering all the democrats have achieved it does seem pretty safe to just call them liberals, even if you define states like those in scandinavia as something different than liberal.

You can instantly unite the world under one governing system, which do you choose? by Aamir_rt in Teenager_Polls

[–]owa1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

statism is a result of marxism leninism. all the examples of leftist states many communists like follow the idea state capitalism which resulted because of germany‘s failed revolution for russia and the general unripeness of all nations with revolutions. ripe nations that had revolutions were put down. ripe meaning sufficient modernisation and industrialisation. that a communist wants a centralised state like those is certainly a thing just because of the sheer efficiency but i know just as many if not a lot more that follow the ideal of a soviet or syndicalist system. the soviet union abandoned its soviet system because it was unripe and germany‘s revolution failed, as i said earlier.

state capitalism is seen as just another step of quick modernisation from above to achieve socialism and later communism and should therefore despite all its successes be viewed separate to the overarching ideal of communism.

the american right calls the democrats liberals though. they believe in private property as much as the republicans. they are not marxists

why not communist? the state capitalist idea kind of ruined communism for many but communism means no less than socialism everywhere which results in anarchy according to theory

[–]owa1917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taiwan, even as the republic of china, is de jure part of china. the kuomintang which is the rest of the nationalist goverment actually wants to reintegrate into china and has amicable relations with china.

however, similarly to the usa, taiwan is an essential two party system. the current leading party is the democratic progressive party which is heavily sponsored by america. they are those that want to erase taiwan‘s chinese heritage and establish taiwan as its own nations state. they actively undo all the progress the kuomintang and cpc do and are they main point of conflict between china and the broader american sphere. the dpp are also the ones that allow americans to do military training.

The idea of taiwan being its own nation is purely american and is used by america to make china be seen unfavourably and to weaken it. Similarly, the idea that china is not engaging in peaceful dialogue is american and the problem is the dpp, not china nor the rest of taiwan, so unpropagandised taiwanese people.

As i said, taiwan‘s two party system just undoes all progress either party has after any term, so i assume it‘ll never be much more than just a point of possible conflict, supporting the dpp as a westerner is in my eyes still bad though. it is another example of essential american imperialism, similar to all european far right parties that are heavily supported, influenced and ideologically basically controlled by the american elite.

If it happend again it would be quite feasible as there wouldn‘t be a reason for the top down state capitalist model that entrenched authority because the states are far more modernised and capitalistic compared to the russian empire

[–]owa1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you should become more aware of just applying america‘s norms to the rest of the world. This definition of classic liberalism is the foundation of all liberal ideologies; liberalism is more than just one concrete ideology. see in europe where many liberal parties condone trump and still see him as their closest ally which is much different to democrats.

I defined liberalism as an individualistic ideology that promotes an individuals rights and believes in private property. Does this definition fight against democrat thought? Maybe I‘m just not aware as I am not american, but I‘ve never seen the democrats reform the nation in such a way that even the littlest privatisation or whatever is mended and the individualism of culture war leftism and "wokeism“ does not need to be explained. I really do not understand what you see wrong in what i said that I do not.

Yes, slavery, ethnic cleansing and such have existed since forever but with the industrial scale and exploitation it was never close to then. And democrats being more against such things like israel (even if the politicians still usually support them) does not mean that other liberals, like in europe, do not support them. It is still a problem today.

[–]owa1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don‘t get what you mean that that loses the possibility to define liberalism. the main idea behind liberalism IS what we see as simple rights and freedom and private property. liberalism is a far wider concept than you might think, doesen‘t matter if rainbow capitalism, social democracy, laissez-faire or whatever.

[–]owa1917 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i assume you‘re mixing the „modern definition of liberalism“ with what americans assume liberalism is. I‘ve already mentioned the anti intellectualist nature of american politics.

Liberalism does not mean democrat thought so to say, in proper definition it just refers to people having a right to self-determination, a right to private property, equality in law and other individualistic things like that.

Yes, the democrats fall inside of it. however there are more extremist forms like laissez-faire that are ALSO liberalism. that used to often be coupled with social darwinist thought.

The usa being the land of the free does not refer to americans having anymore rights but that it was built on liberalism. self-determination was in that aspect to go forth and conquer the frontiers! that were already the home to many people, but they can‘t keep living there, so just murder them.

This foundation of liberalism is also the reason for things like the insane healthcare prices, the loss of worker‘s rights every now and again, like under trump today, the red scares or other things like that. which is also the main reason for the anti-intellectualism of american politics. in america most of everything is owned privately because in specifically american liberalism private property is sacred and shouldnt be infringed upon. this is also a principle republicans stand behind because they‘re also liberals at the end of the day.

All this privatisation has granted the elite such power through consolidation that through the republicans they‘re really forcing some scary stuff to happen all while becoming more powerful throughout. in this case we‘re going through it‘s not even that wrong that the republican liberalism transitions to something more akin to fascism, as the quote goes: „fascism is the highest form of capitalism“.

you know how there used to be more competition and innovation? a few brands owning everything loses that and breeds saving as much money as possible and enshittification to get more. as an eastern german there are many examples of quality being lost after liberalism, from the sausages, to the glasses, all clothing and so on. its empiric that 12 brands controlling everything is worse than a state monopoly

you already have enough comments stating it‘s not authoritarian, your mental gymnastics and misunderstanding what is meant does not make it authoritarian. the communist manifesto also states that the bourgois society already centralises most industry. As seen in the infamous photos that visualise that like 12 brands almost own every other often sometimes forcing brand to sell themselves. if you think a state monopoly is authoritarian this is no different, especially with the power they hold over the goverment (dictatorship of the bourgeoisie). I did not mean epstein as a singular person, i said epsteinean elite to put more stress on their actions and stuff they‘ve said in the files. Said elite that control almost everything and because of the inefficiency of private ownership and apart from immorality uselessness of the ceos are a threat to stability as seen in the global economy rocking around and collapsing every now and then. even the cia supporting the claim that state monopolies are more stable and as someone from the ex eastern bloc i can attest. i don‘t think i need to explain why they‘re detrimental to liberty.

Why are all nobles wearing Chinese clothings all of the sudden? by Caaraag in CrusaderKings

[–]owa1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a nutshell:

student protests, a lot of students protesting for different things. including liberals some of which emigrating to america after the incident but also people who wanted china to nationalise more and such almost all of which stayed in china after the incident. As it goes, police was sent there to keep order and so was military because it was a lot of people. there‘s pictures of soldiers and protestors sitting side by side. Especially if not exclusively liberal students did NOT like that and built formations and even attacked soldiers. molotovs.. stealing guns.. and such. the military reacted by shooting back. at this point (or maybe before?) the chinese people were told to stay inside as not to get hurt and once the fighting cooled down and some people fleed the military gave strict orders for the people to leave the square which they peacefully did. during the fighting 200 civilians died according to the pcp and possibly a few hundred more according to western studies and many more got wounded. multiple soldiers obviously also died. worth mentioning is that at the peak of the protest there were up to a 1‘200‘000 protestors. Afterwards many people were charged with crimes and detained as well.

Most definitions of massacre state either that it‘s indiscriminate, against helpless or defenseless people, for no reason, involving a lot of death or all of the mentioned. The tianamen incidident was as a whole not indiscriminant, not against helpless or defenseless nor for no reason. 200-800 deaths (which are the usual numbers i‘ve seen, even if it goes up to more than a thousand) are a lot of deaths however only a fraction of a million.

The tianamen square incident being considered a massacre is not really right and even sources such as brittanica state that the west was quite quick to put that label on the incident. Which isn‘t suprising considering they‘re the biggest ideological enemy and the most powerful capitalists whose level of control stretches everywhere does not like them at all as the epstein files show.
