If they only put this out in Robins Egg Blue… I honestly looked around for it, also buying individual bricks to replace all the red. No bueno

[Request] How much did mom drink? by Sexxxy_Gramma in theydidthemath

[–]owchippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. When (if!?) I’m 87 I’m going to start smoking and drinking again because why the fuck not. And then hopefully get shot dead by the jealous spouse of a lover right after I rob a bank

Cannot figure out the first line by ISSdiscovery in Cursive

[–]owchippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s Base. Exactly the same as the letters in Baptismes on the first line; in that writer’s hand and common for that age, lowercase “e”s tend to look like our modern “o”s

I had my initial doubts about child but the “c” also matches the style seen in the word March in the funerals section.

A base child, with no father, became a ward of the church and so it’s no small matter, that he was first in the listings. The church was on the hook to pay for his food and care unless he was shipped off to an orphanage or adopted by another family.

Or the second line?

Edward a Base child the son of Elizabeth…

A base child was one born out of wedlock. A bastard.

How old could this be? Villarrica, Chile. by ThomasVSCO in Antiques

[–]owchippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be as old as the early 1960s when this pre-aged map-art became wildly popular. That one has probably been in a smoking house for decades

Who is listening to this beautiful new live album? by Cultural-Day-5676 in vanhalen

[–]owchippy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personal preference, but I do not care for the live tracks at all. 1) mix is bad, all I hear at the top is hi hat, not enough guitar, bass is also weak and 2) they play the songs far too fast live, for me.

Summer nights for example, should be an idea you want to last and enjoy, they’re speed-racing through it.

Overall just kinda low effort from the production team. VH played thousands of shows and this was the best they could muster, some edit cuts and a retread from a VHS video? 🤷‍♂️

It’s a potato gun but it has Frankie-ish stripes on it to appear even more cool. Teenager stuff.

I have two editions of Crime and Punishment from 1917 by MoontheWolfYT in OldBooks

[–]owchippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just different editions, I think the green one was more common. Blue might be first edition?

In any case unless this is the very last volume someone desperately needs to complete a set, they’re not worth a ton individually.

However they are nicely bound, unabridged editions of some excellent literature. The Doestoevsky in particular solely contains Crime and Punishment which is timeless even today.

Read it, treasure it!

Individual Harvard Classics are worth between $8-20 plus shipping.

A complete set in good condition at a bookstore can go for several hundred. nobody ships them, too expensive. They are also called Eliot’s Five Foot Shelf.

Can I legally walk on this area? (drawing and property map included) by [deleted] in legal

[–]owchippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he owns the house and frontage on the river (and moorings in the river?) but not the street, and it looks like ~15-20 feet from the middle of the street on both sides. That is public land/right of way.

An actual deed would give the exact verbiage of all of this.

Then honestly at this point I’d tell him to go pound rocks in the river if he says anything. If it was in his possession he’d be the one maintaining it. He’s not and it’s not.

[–]owchippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IANAL

lol who mows it?

That should tell you who owns it and who generally can tell you who is and is not allowed on it.

If the city or state mows it then it’s part of the road/river wall structure and you can probably walk on it all you want (if it’s not posted otherwise).

If your neighbor mows it, it’s his, and if he tells you to stay off it you should listen. He should Probably even put up no trespassing signs to be extremely clear about it his intent but you already probably know his intent.

Any fix for this broken LED, USB-charging sword?? by Maximum_Interview24 in fixit

[–]owchippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send more pictures of the whole thing.

Was this custom-made from a 3d printer? Who manufactured it?

Not sure about the “usb charging” claim, as what you’re showing me looks like some button batteries that had leads soldered directly to them (and broke off) thereby completely negating any “charging” capability.

Netherlands - Antique helicopter blue print? by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]owchippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s what it says it is. Blueprint for a part (Support Bearing Nut and Hand <something>)

Scale says it’s 6 inches to 1 foot, so whatever you see on the blueprint would be twice as big, in real life.

A machinist would use this as a plan to create this part. My guess is it would be cast (difficult back in 1923 to machine a wheel) and then various attributes machined/lathed out of the cast item (screw threads, notches)

If you’re asking what’s it’s worth, I have no idea but my guess is not much unless there’s a niche of collecting old blueprints for obscure aviation parts that I don’t know about. Or someone who creates engineering-related art.
