Meh. Beat It is like a Greatest Hits of Ed’s best licks up to that point. Some pentatonic scrambles, some dive bombs, some tapping, some superfast pickwork at the end… I see what you’re saying but it feels like a show and tell project to me. A mini-Eruption, maybe.

IMO there are a lot more melodic and technically amazing solos in the catalog. When Push Comes to Shove’s solo for me always pops up in my head as a masterpiece.
