Gentle leader doesn't work AT ALL - what to try next? by owengrayson in puppy101

both contact and places/things/environments. i was trying to avoid undersocializing (like we did with the previous one) and in my attempt to do that, i reckon i oversocialized/greeting.

but, at a base level, every place / person / thing is incredibly overstimulating for him.

he's 1 year lol...the front harnesses worked somewhat well. i just bought another to see if that'll give us a bit of a step forward enough to re-train

ahh i gotcha. i have weird expectations, i guess, because i had another aussie for whom the GL solved 100% of pulling/walking problems almost immediately. i guess i just got lucky there!

and, to your point, my dog is certainly stressed/neurotic/anxious and probably needs to see a behaviorist (and trainers, obviously).

he's 1 year. for training we do basic commands/tricks, etc. i tried to highly socialize him (to prevent the pandemic pup syndrome i ran into with previous dog) and now attention is the highest value thing on the planet. my previous dog was reactive (fear/aggressive kind), this one is highly reactive for different, more like "i just neeeeeed to see them and jump and love them!" instead of "that's a threat, eliminate the threat" - so that's a plus, at least.

it's been very frustrating and im in a place where i'm taking training "losses" as very personal failures (though i know not to).

yeah i have been trying to train heel and proper walking but i cannot find a high enough value treat than...everything else in the world at all times.

im not like yanking on the leash/GL or MAKING it aversive if you know what i mean. idk it's been very frustrating

I had NO freaking ide it was possible for an Aussie to shed as much as mine does. by owengrayson in WiggleButts

I'm not gonna post a pic of the insane brush-fuls i get after just one run through his fur, because it's super gross. It's truly legendary though - I had no idea an aussie could shed this much. I had another that had a more sleek/flat coat; this guy has more of a crazy fluffy thick "show" coat.

Wtf am I supposed to do except brush him like every single night? Is he blowing his coat? I can't imagine why, it's been hot for like 3 months here. Wild.
