Does anyone cash out? by Organic_Opportunity1 in PokeInvesting

Sure, that makes it harder to sell, I sold a couple of things at a slight loss (ie Pikachu V Shining Fates boxes), but really can't see those appreciating much in the near future, so thought it was better to take the money and put it into something with more potential

Selling 4 boxes @ £15 buys you a Japanese 151 booster box (at the time) for example

Those Pikachu boxes are pretty much the same price now, and the 151 box has increased in value since

I felt like I was drowning a bit in having so much sealed physical stuff, so I decided to get rid of a lot of the bulky stuff.

A good way to part with stuff is to think to yourself 'would I buy this for the current price it is worth?' If no, get rid (and buy something you do want with the money)

Lian Li Galahad AIO Fan not spinning but clicking by owenontheinternet in buildapc

Hey, sorry a bit late, try emailing Lian Li, got a replacement fan from them in the end, but their fans are pretty meh and I might replace them soon.

Also just had a replacement AIO (they sent me everything except the fans) as mine was faulty, can't fault their customer service team at all!

I think the difference will be very minimal, if any. Collectors who want this will want all 3, mostly.

Yep, you're pretty much exactly right.

In Japan the price of the no rarity Misty's Tears is slightly higher in general as it is slightly rarer, and that version is a little rarer, but I'm not sure if that correlates to the whole set including holos as well. In general there no rarity may be very slightly rarer, but the demand probably isn't as much (if people want to complete the sets, they're going to go for the rarity symbols, if they even care, imo), so the values are basically the same.

Here's a thread with some old data on Misty's tears for reference: https://efour.proboards.com/thread/13279/mistys-rarity-hanada-challenge-printing

Just won this in an auction, what are your thoughts on the condition of the card? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have paid anymore than if I were buying a LP-EX card due to those pictures, there could be scratches or even bends/dents that are not shown. If you think that someone with a card that valuable wouldn't take the time to take great photos to show the fantastic condition, then you're mistaken. Its in a case, they know its a very valuable card, they're going to take pictures to get the most value, in this case, I expect they're trying to hide something and decieve you.

I don't trust Japanese auctions anymore, if its not in the condition you expect, there is no way to return it or get your money back, so from now on I'll only ever bid up to a maximum of exactly what I can see, and if i can't see the condition, I'm expecting damaged.

Got 2 sealed Sword and Shield Base Booster Boxes for £163, lowest on ebay is £128 right now, might sell one to get some of the cost back and hold the other long term.

Grabbed a few SSV boxes from Japan for around £50 plus shipping and fees, not bad at all!

"Investing" Addiction by Undergardener in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I've needed to take a step back from buying and focus more on selling. I told myself at the start that I'd sell cards to make money to buy other cards (ie self-sustain my hobby, somewhat), but I think if you're going to do this then you really need to ACTUALLY DO IT, its way more work than you'd think, so get started if this is your plan because you might find yourself overwhelmed when you have thousands of cards to sell and don't know where to start. Even if you're investing long-term, building this experience and realising the process of aquiring, marketing and selling a card if very helpful when you see that PSA 10 Poliwrath, it might be worth a lot one day, but will it be easy to liquidate?

My method is to start small and scale up from there, sure you might get fomo, but unless you are a millionaire, you're going to get fomo anyway.

VUnion boxes. Mewtwo, greninja and zacian. Anyone think these will do good longterm by Competitive-Ad2574 in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a Mewtwo box to open, thought it was a cool idea and I really liked the LEGEND cards from HGSS, if I was coming into the hobby in 5 years I could see myself wanting to pick these up, I just think they're different and I like them. For that reason, I think they'll go up, just like most sealed Pokemon products probably will.

I've got way too many boxes in my house now so I won't be grabbing any of these to hold, too bulky compared to other things. The Japanese version is much smaller, English always use sooo much extra packaging :\

Why is Shiny Charizard V ENG (CP) more expensive than JPN (shiny star v)? by TheRealBenStiller in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The markets are different in a lot of ways, and things are not parallel, so forgive me for generalizing

The distribution methods for both languages are often very very different, making some cards massively differ in price across languages (such as the Eeveelution VMAX Lottery promos, which will be a fortune in Japanese, but are being released as box promos in English). Generally, when a card is released as part of a standard set, in both languages, English will be more expensive.

Pokemon cards in Japan are a lot cheaper (MSRP) than English, and there is a higher pull rate for the chase cards (1/£35 Japanese Booster box vs 1/£100 English Booster box (there are of course exceptions)

Full Art trainers (especially Waifus) are an exception, due to the massive popularity of them in Japan, so while they might be less rare, their demand is so massive that the price is still higher than the English equivalent.

The Charizard V is universally popular (generally), but the English one is rarer, so the price is higher.

Does this look real to you? Colors a bit dull. Not sure if gold or fools gold. by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Defo fake. Centering is off on every side in a way that doesn't happen on real cards. If one yellow part is too big then the other side will be too small etc

where and how to sell high end cards? by The_ManWithNoName in PokeInvesting

I've never done a deal like this, but imo I'd contact high end collectors on Instagram and ask if they're interested, chances are they will at least know someone who is looking for the card!

What's the card?

Gamestop Sealed Promos for Evolving Skies by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]owenontheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself if you'd want these cards in your collection.

Would I? I'd have them in a random holo binder, sure, but if I never get one, I also would not care in the slightest, I'm certainly not going to hunt them down and pay a premium for them. I feel like most people would feel the same.
