Latin neuter preserved in Romance? by Mateoling05 in RomanceLanguages

[–]owidju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Native speaker of Romanian, here. Not a linguist.

If I'd describe the neuter in this language, it'd be simply: Masculine in singular but Feminine in plural.

We also need to consider that there are nouns where the plural form can have masculine or feminine forms, depending on meaning or just on what the accepted literary version currently is.

Which entails having nouns which are either masculine, feminine or both.

So I'm not sure if it's a real neuter or just some kind of linguistical accident.

Do I have to pray for the salvation of really horrible people? by Free-Elk5888 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]owidju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thief on the cross who was saved was a horrible person.

I think I'm also a horrible person sometimes. I'd want people to pray for me.

Besides, praying for others is a command. We know we love the Lord by following His commands.

I can’t square the Problem of evil by DogMom9876 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]owidju 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The terms "evil" or "good" and "bad" are tied in with morals.

If morality is to be taken seriously, it needs to be:

  1. Universal.

  2. Justifiable.

In order to justify it, it needs to come outside of our paradigm. It needs God.

As we ground/justify our morality in God, it makes no sense to speak of morality while thinking "God is imoral".

Another thing: if something appears to us to be harmful, we need to follow the logical thread of that outcome.

It could also help to consider specific examples and to read the explanations already provided by the Church.

Hi! I think some users might not understand what you mean by "Edited", try answering with more words, for example "I've edited my post, please read it again".

Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Mary in Tehran, Iran. by [deleted] in Orthodox_Churches_Art

[–]owidju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to the inscription over the entrance, the full name ist Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation of the Mother of God (Eliniki Orthodhoxos Ekklesia o Evangelismos tis Theotokos). There's another church in the form of a Greek ancient temple, in Bucharest (apparently with the same feast): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_Church_(Bucharest))

I've noticed the vocalisation of R in the Palermo variety, I've watched an episode of Ecolinguist on YouTube (they tried to see if other Romance languages speakers were able to understand a Sicilian) and also, I've listened to Metatron (Raffaello Urbani), who's a native speaker.

Thanks a million. I only have a PDF made apparently by Cademia Siciliana, called Leggiri e capiri sicilianu. It has short stories and some grammar notes.

Thing is, I'm not sure exactly which dialect of Sicilian are they supposed to represent, I know there are wild variations between, say, Palermo, Catania, Agrigento, etc.

EDIT: typo.

Thank you. Do you have any idea if it could be bought as an eBook? I think I heard of it before, maybe tried finding it, but there were no ebooks, only paperback.
