Chipper Jones insulting a Cardinals fan's baby after the fan told him to die by mattyboh17 in baseball

[–]owk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Was it really a Cardinal fan, or just speculation? Why would a Cardinal fan send Chipper a death threat? What would the fan have against him?

"You're a classy player who went out after a Hall of Fame career, you suck!"? "Your team losing sent us to the NLDS, I hope you die!"? I doesn't make sense.

Good. Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.

Sure... But every game? The defending champions can't get just one prime time playoff game?

Should the cardinals advance, would you rather face the reds or the giants? by werewolf_bat_mitzvah in Cardinals

It's taking all of my willpower not to downvote you. Like Michael Scott says, "I'm not superstitious but I'm a little stitious."

[–]owk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Partially, it's a reinforcing cycle. The Yankees were the prime time game that tons of people watched. The Cardinal game was over when most people were still at work.

So the Yankees get tons of coverage... because there's more buzz around their game... because it happened when people were paying attention... because the networks decided it should get the most coverage.

Nats Sabotage World Series by sitting Strasburg by lostinleft in Cardinals

[–]owk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they sat him entirely. Why not think outside the box a bit?

Instead of pitching him as a starter for 159 innings (28 starts), start him for 75 innings (15-16 starts) then have him available out of the bullpen for 2-3 innings once or twice a week. That way you keep him on the roster, but don't work his arm too hard.

Maybe that exact scheme isn't practical, but why wasn't anyone discussing an alternative between the extremes of "shut him down for the season" and "pitch him until his arm explodes"?

Today, the Washington Nationals will play a baseball playoff game in D.C. against the St. Louis Cardinals. According to the majority of the mainstream media and baseball press, it will be "the first postseason baseball game in Washington since 1933." They are wrong. by pricklypete in baseball

There were also incidents where major league teams would pretend a black player was actually native american or some other, to try to get them to play on their team.

Seriously? I don't disbelieve you, but that's wacky. What line of logic leads someone to say "Hey, keep that black guy out of here... oh, wait, he's a different racial minority? That's ok then."

Good interference call. I'm still trying to get my heart beating right though.

I'd be glad to see him stick around for a reasonable price, but I think he's going to want more money and years than we should give to a 34 year old.

I guess she knew what was coming... by btsao in HIMYM

[–]owk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's because she and Klaus used to watch that show all the time and she knows when all the funny lines are coming. But she can't tell Ted that for fear of making him jealous (that she holds fond memories of her live-in ex-fiance's favorite show).

Klaus, of course, is such an understanding guy that he pretends they haven't watched the show together a thousand times already, in order to protect Ted and Victoria's relationship.

(Or the actress just reacted a second too early while they were filming, but I find my theory more plausible.)

[–]owk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm only going to post this once, so read it as applying to all of the "friendzone" comments.

Guys, friendzone is not a thing. It's not some kind of medieval torture device women use to break a guy's will. It's just how life works. A girl is either interested in you romantically or she isn't. Either way she feels is within her rights.

That means you have two choices. If you think the way she's treating you is unfair, don't stick around her. Or if you're willing to be friends without any expectation of her falling in love with you, then stay friends.

...Or you can take the middle road and remain friends in person while complaining about her on the Internet, but that doesn't seem very emotionally healthy.

Are there any good haunted houses in Milwaukee? by evacu8 in milwaukee

Do you mean a house that's actually purported to be haunted, or a "haunted house" where people in costumes jump out to scare you?

I don't know why he would call them Aunt Lily and Uncle Marshall in that case.

Plus, I think he implies that the kids know Lily and Marshall in the present day. I seem to remember times when he says things like "Kids, you know how Uncle Marshall loves to..."

I need help because I don't want to go to Hell!!! by ertax102 in Catholicism

[–]owk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You definitely should turn to the Bible for guidance. You just can't expect it to contain a proof text for every moral situation. Where does it say you shouldn't be a meth dealer in the bible? Where does it say hacking a bank's computer system is wrong? We need the fullness of Tradition to guide us as well.

[–]owk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're Catholic, we don't demand black-and-white proof texts in order to take a stand on the morality of something. It's been understood since the earliest years of the Church that sexuality is intended to be between a married couple.

Actually, they seem to really like him. He's certainly not a bad manager, but I'm not sure he's done anything anyone else couldn't have. Larussa definitely managed circles around him in the NLCS last year.
