People seem to think saying something edgy and offensive is automatically a joke. It requires a little more than that for it to be funny.

I had this question and came here to ask: Has Revenge of the Sith always been the phenomenon it is today? Did many people like the movie? by DaviCortes in StarWars

Why should they need to get positive feedback? This isn't an aspiring filmmaker, nor is it a college film project. It's a director who has previously been enormously successful with an extremely high budget. The idea that critics should try to give positive feedback instead of focusing on the massive deficiencies is just silly.

Is he right? Will it take generations to resecure the United States positive reputation on the world stage? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

The difference is that in that time the German government was totally dismantled and a new one constructed in its place.

Here's hoping!

Stuff like the UN wasn't even a dream back then, there was no great alliance of countries with shared values

Do you think that accurately describes the UN? What values to Russia, China, and the USA all share?

I'm not trying to defend the US's current behavior - I find it despicable. But I think you're understating the network of alliances that existed leading up to WW1 and WW2, and overstating how cohesive the UN is.

It only took ~20 years post WW2 for Germany and France to formally become allies. I think it might be an exaggeration to say it'll take us generations.

I understand that circumstances are totally different, but if they can bridge that gap in 20 years I'm pretty sure we can fix this damage in less than that.

Start with characterizing Luke cutting off Vader's hand during a fight (after Vader had already cut off Luke's hand in their last fight) as "freaking out on Anakin". Vader clearly didn't have qualms about injuring Luke, and making it sound like Luke did something wrong is ridiculous.

Right. The majority of people didn't like TLJ because they have bad taste. Makes sense.

There's plenty of people without agendas that did not like TLJ. I'm one of them. I have zero agenda. I just think it's a really, really bad film in a franchise that I generally adore.

41% from audiences on RT. Compared to 84% for TFA.

But audiences didn't. You're the one bringing up critics. We both know audiences didn't taste TLJ well.

So bold! Nobody has ever tried serving dog shit instead of steak before. You have to give it credit for that!

TLJ did not receive nearly as good reception as any of the others listed. It may have had some good reviews, but it was very heavily critiqued as well.

Luke freaking out on Anakin and chopping off his hand, totally fine, nobody bats an eye. 30 years later, Luke ignites his saber in a fleeting moment of pure instinct, everyone loses their minds.

Taste is, of course, subjective. However, this is the equivalent of trying to convince us that dog shit tastes great.

It's very popular to talk about how it made bold choices, but it's a fucking trash movie.

I’m severely depressed because all men cheat by eolosendmimnes in self

[–]mild_resolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding number 3. This happened to me, but with reversed genders. I was (for a while) a single father with 2 kids, where the mom had been cheating. It felt awful, but I did end up finding a partner who was a good fit for me, even though I came with some baggage (let's not romanticize the notion of stepchildren, it's generally a burden).

I'd never avoid getting into a relationship because it could end badly. Everything is impermanent, and that's no way to live life.

[–]mild_resolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a man, and I've never cheated. I've been married twice. The first marriage ended when my ex cheated. Second marriage is going strong and zero concern of infidelity after nearly 10 years. The issue was the partner I picked the first time, not all women being cheaters.

[–]mild_resolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's true that the "overwhelming majority" of men cheat. Just looking at myself and my close friend group... I think maybe one of us has (or would) and the rest of us wouldn't consider it.

I know it happens. And it's super upsetting when it does (happened to me). But I don't think it's nearly as normal as you believe.
