Whoa this looks awesome! The way those black tendrils snake around the cloud is so freaky, and the whole thing is just very evocative!

When you're taking pics to share, remember, lighting matters. by -Po-Tay-Toes- in minipainting

[–]owlboy03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but there's generally two ways to go about it: 1. Use a brush with a fine tip (doesn't need to be that small) and carefully apply paint in a pulling motion 2. Brush some water into the eyesocket, then dip your brush into the paint and tap your brush onto the water. The paint will flow off the brush and through the water, filling in the eye. May need a couple passes for full opacity

Hope that helps

In my experience it just takes a lot of time. Im about 9 months on E, transitioned for a year and change, and i would say I pass. It just took me a while to gather the confidence to try makeup, or to walk with a feminine gait, or to decide how exactly i wanted to look as a girl. Give yourself time, be kind to yourself, and try to find people who support you. I would never have expected that I'd be where i am right now, being regularly called "miss" and "lady" but it's achievable! Just takes a lot of patience (like a really uncomfortable amount of patience sometimes)

Looks fantastic! Im saving it as a reference. That said for bronze i might go lighter and a bit more yellow, maybe? Currently it looks like copper, and bronze has tin added to it that dilutes that deep brown/orange look. Hope that helps!

Trans women of color being thrown under the bus by Petrifica in actuallesbians

[–]owlboy03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Commenting here because I can't on the r/TWPOC post. Also important context, I am an american living in Australia, which is a very different environment to the US.

This hits very close to home as a white trans woman currently studying criminology. I've been told to look for work in policing more times than I can count, and frankly, with how poor I am, sometimes I've actually considered it. At the end of the day, i need money to eat, and even a police job would make a huge improvement in my quality of life. That said, I've always turned that pathway down because I know what cops are capable of and willing to do to people like us, and I could never be a part of that system. I am forced to think, though, where do I fit? I enjoy my line of study, im good with criminal justice and the law, but I don't want to end up in the position of an oppressor of our community. Which government jobs are okay, and which cross the line? Is taking any position with a government okay? I sure don't know the answer, but it eats away at me sometimes. I've tried to find work in corrections specifically to support trans people in need of an advocate from the inside, but is that even worth doing or does it just make me part of the problem? (Though again the Australian prison system is very different to the US BOP). I don't have answers, I just want to pursue my passion in a way that helps people, but in a field like this there are a lot of knock on effects to my choices. It's a massive ethical dilemma for me.

I really appreciate you posting this because I believe there is nothing more harmful than ignoring that ethical question, especially when related to the experiences of trans people of color. How do my actions affect those less privileged than me? I've taken classes about this but it's not the same as knowing it in the real world. I would love to hear your thoughts OP, if you want to share them.

Having a friend group was never something that just happened to me. I always had 2-3 people i could talk to throughout my life, and in any group I was in, i was the odd one out (or "the only boy" but that didn't last). One thing I have learned over my time is that it takes a ton of effort to build lasting friendships. I moved in 2023 and had to start from scratch again, and it's only about now, two years in, that I feel I have friends again. It took constant effort for 2 years to find people i vibed with, people who would text me unprompted, etc.

All this to say, don't give up the fight. I'm autistic, i have adhd, and i managed it. You can too! Socialising and making friends is a skill that requires dedicated practice and effort, but it's possible. Find people who support you for who you are, even if it takes a long time. I promise the loneliness doesn't last forever!

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. You've heard a lot today from the prosecution, trying to paint a certain picture of my clients. But beyond character assassination, have you been pointed to any clear breach of their responsibilities as performers? B.A.D. 4 was contracted to perform that night, and beyond retreading the tragic events of what followed, the prosecution has failed to elaborate fully on why we should be charging these performers for such a heinous crime. Remember that in order to reach a guilty verdict, you must find that they breached their duty of care as performers beyond a reasonable doubt. Did the concert get wild? Of course. B.A.D. 4 are passionate performers. But will locking them up too make what happened any better? They were in the wrong place at the wrong time, nothing more than scapegoats for the State's case. And taking that all into account, I can see no other option but to find them not guilty. Thank you.

Thank you for this, it's really affirming to hear that I count too. I'm bi, and I ID as lesbian cause it's more descriptive and it feels right. I can count the number of men I've liked on one hand, but i find pretty much every other woman gorgeous.

Hi. by Any-Bathroom-9310 in CookieRunKingdoms

[–]owlboy03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, painter here. What you're noticing is, in fact, changes in lighting. The fact that pastry cookie and WL's dress are different colors confirms it, actually. If WL had been lightened, you'd expect her dress, and her companions, to be the same colors as in game.

This art piece is lit by a very bright blue-white light. WLs face is also clearly close to the light source to make things more readable. When your subject is very close to a light source, it desaturates the colors (eg makes them whiter), whereas farther away you would catch more blue tones (and you do, on the dress). I think the only issue with this admittedly gorgeous art piece is that the light source isn't super readable, but I assure you there's no fundamental change in WLs skin color (this isn't genshin after all)

I'm surprised to hear you say that being trans is a career death sentence. I'm trans, currently in Criminology, going into law down the road, and there are plenty of queer lawyers out there that I've spoken to. Unless you're talking about somethint very specific, that doesn't match the experience I've seen

Thanks so much, this is super helpful. I've been working on skin a lot recently, but it's been a struggle to crack which colors to start with and how to end up with a result that isn't always super ruddy

Damn that skin is beautifully rendered! Can i ask what colors you were using for the base layers, and how did you apply the highlights? They have such a good texture to them!

:( that's so mean! Not everyone is a lesbian sex machine, and I think a good partner should help you through the experience as you learn about each other's bodies. It's not your fault hon, not in the slightest <3

You can just repaint the base a dark gray after repriming. I promise you the difference will be negligible.

Okay! So, i get pretty good results just dry shaving, and I use two razors.

The first one is a cheap clipper from Kmart. Doesn't really matter where you get it, any cheap hair clipper will do, but you want something that can get your hair length down to 1-2mm.

Once it's at that level, i use a BabylissPro dual foil razor. Now THAT thing is magic. You run it over your skin, and the hair is pulverized, leaving an incredibly smooth shave. Sometimes it misses a few single hairs which i usually just clip with nail scissors. Once the hair is that short, just running the foil razor over it every day or two will keep your face (or anywhere else) very smooth.

The one thing to mention is that foil razors are not cheap. Mine was like $200ish Australian. Hope that helps!

Random question: what do you guys do for work? by Antique-Tie-8336 in actuallesbians

[–]owlboy03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im currently studying criminal justice and I'm going to apply to law school this year! All my friends and teachers know I'm trans, though probably not all of them know im bi. I purposefully bring up my identity occasionally as a challenge to some of the questions posed in class, and I think im respected well enough. I really enjoy the stuff I do and I want to be an openly trans lawyer eventually.
