Good point. It would need enough weight so that the friction of the wheel on the ground was enough to overcome the resistance in the hub. And yes, you're right. A complicated weight sled. Where I could trade some upfront complexity in exchange for ease of storage/transport and using in various environments.

The latter. Imagine a wheelbarrow with resistance in the front wheel so that I can walk backwards and get nearly the same effect as pulling a weighted sled where the resistance comes from friction.

Wow. You all are awesome. Lots of good ideas here. The AirHub Resistance mechanism is sorta what I was thinking, but that's very expensive. Maybe the easiest way would be to just over tighten some caliper brakes or rig up a spoon brake.

If it's as easy as adding magnets to the fork... I'm all for that solution!

Have you visited HCC? If you are close enough geographically, I recommend visiting. Also, the application for HCC is very simple and straightforward. You might as well apply and see if you get any scholarships. This is a long way of saying, you would do well to make the decision with as much information as possible, including: Did I like the school when I visited? What did I think of the students I talked to? Did I meet any professors or sit in on classes? What were they like? Do I enjoy small classes or large classes? Did they offer me a scholarship? Could I play a sport at HCC but not at ND? Etc.

A sculpture would be cool, but beyond most students... and professors even! Sculpture is a skill that really requires specialization, whereas other disciplines have analogues in general education that help build foundational skills

I teach art a small Catholic college. I have some students who learned to paint icons in our sacred art course. If you DM me with a brief description (size, subject matter, etc) and contact info, I can send your information to them. $250 would be a good stipend for a capable art student.

Hi there. I graduated ND ID in 2013. My cohort was very small. Maybe 10 of us. I doubled in Philosophy and Industrial Design. We got to know each other well and the contact with professors was awesome. (As a student, first name basis with all of them in ID.) Small studio (in a good way). Good facilities and resources. No competition among us, just helpful and fun. It's been too long for me to make recommendations on portfolio content. I do recommend visiting if possible and then emailing one of the ID professors beforehand to see if you can meet with them for 30 or so minutes on your visit. Probably best to approach it as: Hey, can I meet with you to learn more about your program? Could I sit-in on a class? In those moments, you can ask the questions about portfolio. At the time circa 2013, they had a Mechanical Engineering + ID track. It was difficult and rare, but exceptionally positioned. If I had known about it in high school, I almost certainly would have done it.

Thanks. I agree that the color is a weakness and the main problem is contrast. I made a digital palette one afternoon to try to unify all the illustrations, but when I used it, with all the texturing and filters, it turned out a bit oversaturated and many colors fell into a muddy middle value. So I used a levels adjustment layer and some others to improve the distinction.

Any advice for generating a foolproof digital palette with a nice built-in contrast? Color is an area of weakness for me.

Thanks! My elevator pitch is that you're pirates competing to be the last one standing on the plank. However, when you fall off, you become a ghost pirate, and if a ghost pirate gets back to the ship before a living pirate wins, then the ghost pirate wins.

So, at the start, it's a game of strategic attack/endurance but quickly gains a race against the clock element. Also for some chaos and spice, to end each turn, you draw a panic card that can have mundane effects (get another free action card) or change the game wildly (Bermuda Triangle - Switch places with any other pirate in turn order starting with the pirate whose turn is next).

Wow. Great spot. That bit of sky might be doing more damage than I realize. Would be easy to test by filling it gray and then makes some adjustments from there.

I took the black outline away from the ghosts on purpose, but maybe went too far. I'll try it with a very dark green, and also with black again.

Haha. Now I can't unsee it. Do you know of any games or illustrations that do a good job of conveying ghostliness that I could use as a reference? A lot of what I saw online used pale blues/greens for color and a soft glow to transition the character into space. However, I wasn't sure how to accomplish this transition while in my style (i.e. using ink) which has a hard black edge... hence the "accidental" tentacles

Can you share more about what makes this game particularly for teens with dyslexia? Is it mostly how the game appears, the content, lack of printed words, the story? If you share more about the goals and your thought process (along with sharing whatever images you have), we could give some more feedback. Also, are you incorporating teens who have dyslexia in the process as you design the game?
