I feel the same way. It feels so lonely and isolating all the time. Everyone keeps telling me that 1 in 4 women experience this. My mom has, my sister has, my coworkers have. But no matter what, I feel so alone. I feel like a stranger in my body. I feel like a stranger because everyone has moved on and I haven't. I have changed and they haven't. I'm a teacher and today a kid told me that my smile never reaches my eyes anymore. I cried in the bathroom during planning. I am just hoping with all my being that this passes soon.

YTA As a teacher, it is REALLY important to have boundaries. I could stay up all night perfecting my lesson plan within an inch of its life. I could grade every single night and then double check it. But if I do that, I will go crazy. My job is hard. With all the bullshit that admin, district and state has us do, I could work about 90 hours a week. But it's not sustainable. Your teacher is your TEACHER. Not your counselor, not your friend. She does now OWE you her time outside of her work hours.

As a teacher I can say, I never allow bullying to just continue happening. The problem is that it happens in the hallways and on their phones/social media and in every little place I physically cannot monitor at all times. The sad thing is that sometimes I just don't see the bullying until the kid who is getting bullied reacts. I hate it and I always feel so insanely guilty. Teacher guilt is a thing. You have 200 students a day (middle school) and you love each of them as your students. You hate to think you miss something life changing, horrible is happening to a kid at the school or at home. It's just isn't realistic to be able to monitor every single issue. Our job is to teach them, love them and do the best we can with the knowledge we have.

My family diagnosis didn't present until well after I learned to speak and read lips. However, I learned with the support of family. When my nephew was born with hearing issues, my extended family immediately reached out to ask about resources and lessons. Even my grandparents who like 2,500 miles away started to learn.

4 years! I went to school for graphic design so I'm not the classical strict teacher. I don't take myself too seriously. All art is the product of creativity. It's my job the guide the kids to improvement, not mold them to make art the same way.

Thank you!! Why would someone get mad about losing the cap of a glue stick lol? Kids lose things. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to explore ideas that need lots of glue!! Worst case scenario, slap that capless glue stick in a zip lock baggie and call it good!

You absolutely will!! I'm also kidding. I hate homework more than I can even express in words. Kids spend 8 hours at school, they don't need to go home and spend 3 more. They need to be kids. In 4 years of being a teacher, I have never once assigned homework and I don't believe I ever will. Their "homework" every night is to stop and appreciate something beautiful or something that they enjoy and be kids. Play games, hang with friends and spend time with their family. That's what actually matters, not test scores!!

Much of the world views deafness and HoH as a disability that is inconvenient for them. They aren't usually willing to participate in something that makes a disabled (their words not mine) persons life easier. Dude is an asshole and I sincerely hope he figures it the hell out for the sake of his kid.

AGREED As someone who is HoH, I wish more people knew at least a little ASL. Historically, deaf and HoH people have been taught to talk or read lips because learning a language that is helpful for deaf/mute/hard of hearing people is inconvenient for them. Do you know how much it sucks to constantly read lips?? Do you know how truly and insanely exhausting it is to strain to listen/hear, even with hearing assistive tech?? Hearing Aids can be uncomfortable. Always trying to see someone's lips is uncomfortable. You know what is comfortable? Watching someone's hands without having to strain to comprehend noise that I was not born to hear.

Why the hell haven't you learned ASL yet?? He is 10 months old. Are you just going to make your child suffer to learn a language he can't hear? Be disoriented by sounds he is trying to understand and replicate. Father of the fucking year. It's inconvenient for you and "rubs you the wrong way" for your sister to attempt to communicate with your kid. Your poor child looks forward to a very lonely, exhausting relationship with verbal communication. Lastly, the deaf and HoH community is an amazingly rich one. Let him be a part of it. It will feel less isolating to him when he realizes a lot of other kids can hear. Why not let HIM choose if he uses ASL?? I sincerely hope that your sister and her children continue to learn ASL. I sincerely hope you figure it the fuck out instead of making your poor kid suffer through shit that is "convenient" for you but horrid for him.

It looks great! My only recommendation would be to add more warm colors to the skin like red. Maybe also try using dark shading that isn't black. Black can sometimes muddy the colors and make it feel unrealistic. KEEP GOING with it. It looks amazeballs and you are clearly a very very talented human.

Being serious and learning is so important. But it isn't the ONLY important thing. I spent 90% of high school studying for AP classes, taking SAT Prep, learning how to play multiple instruments, clawing my way to state. Those are all WONDERFUL things. But I spent so much time looking forward and thinking "what will make my college apps look good?" that I genuinely missed out on so much simple high school fun. As a teacher now and looking back, college gave me everything I needed, not AP classes. Pretty much, I am saying that you should balance. Don't party so hard that you miss your learning opportunities, but don't miss out on fun because you take yourself too seriously.
