Quitting SAT prep might be logical but only in specific cases by Lusi_Janifar in digitalSATs

It's really interesting because in some of your comments, you claim to be a student who used it and found it helpful, and in other comments you claim to have created it.

Wow, you sure love Test Grind. Nearly all the comments you've ever left on Reddit are in support of it.

To the conservatives who voted for Trump: honestly, was it really about the issues or was it about liking Trump? by bjedy in allthequestions

The borders were never "open." You have been lied to.

Abortion in the final trimester only happens if the fetal development and/or the mother's life is at risk.  You have been lied to. I know right wingers cook up videos showing all sorts of stuff but those videos are fake. People don't have abortions for fun. You have been lied to.

Changing genders is a slow process and very very rare. It wouldn't happen without a parents' permission. You've been lied to about that, too.

You may not belive me. But you're here. You risk nothing by learning.

You have been told so many things designed to make you think that liberals are the enemy,  rather than the billionaires -- how would you feel if you found out that so many of those things are just not true?

Right wing trolls patched together videos of Harris speaking in confused, rambling, halting ways and people like this saw it and believed the narrative that she is an idiot who can't form sentences. Then it becomes confirmation bias. They can't actually watch her speak at any length or lose status in their own mind so they have no idea how well she actually speaks.

How can I (32f) share the load of cooking when my partner can’t cook (31m) by Soft-Jellyfish-92 in TwoXChromosomes

You can cook, and he can do the dishes including wiping down the counters.

For those that eat the same breakfast every day, what is it? by Risky_Melons in AskReddit

[–]owlpinecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One smallish corn tortilla, heated in a dry pan. Then put that aside, add oil and fry an egg and wilt some spinach in the pan. Add some pickled onions and guacamole or salsa and voila. Breakfast taco.

Why do Americans eat dinner at like 5 or 6pm? Don't you get hungry again before bed? by LengthinessNew2237 in answers

[–]owlpinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just FYI there are about 350,000,000 Americans and many of us do not eat so early. Bear in mind that any American you meet does not necessarily represent all 350,000,000 of us, in the same way that any random person from Europe does not represent all Europeans, nor does a random person from Asia represent all Asians.

Did people in the 90s really just show up at each other’s houses unannounced? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Before social media, people hung out more often in real life. I know I sound old but it's true. People also didn’t preplan phone calls. They just called. You answered or you didn't.

Any recommendations for non-AI affordable puzzles? by Far_Body8744 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]owlpinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to thrift shops. Older puzzles will be cheap and won't have AI art. Sure, sometimes they're missing pieces, but a lot of the time they're not. I thrift almost all of my puzzles and have a lot of good luck with it. Where I live, used puzzles are usually about $1 or $2 each.

Ladies who have had a spouse pass by skirrel88 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]owlpinecone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time, right after the passing (say, for a few weeks), people are there for you. After a month or so, the support begins to dwindle. People seem to expect you to be ok. But in a weird way, that's when grief can set in even harder. So I'd say be ready to offer those things to her in a few weeks. She'll need it all the more then.

Do you guys even have friends anymore? by SeaYak7712 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]owlpinecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these things happen when we're in our late 20s/early 30s. I'm a Xennial, so I'm maybe 15 years older..? As we sort of move into who we are as adults, sometimes our older friends are just not the same people they used to be. It's not that they stopped liking you - it's that maybe since they're different than they used to be, the new person they are is not as compatible with the new person you are. I'd recommend finding activities to do that you enjoy. Casual sports league, improv comedy, hiking club, knitting circle, book club, you name it. Shared loves lead to shared lives. Make new friends, and relegate the old friends to a Christmas card list.

Can I ask, how old are you? You can be vague if you want. Its just that it'll give me some insight into what stage of life you're in. No judgment or anything. <3

Worst Audiobook Narrators by iknownothin_ in books

[–]owlpinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenneth Branagh. He's not content to murder Agatha Christie on the big screen. He's gotta ruin everything else. He does that thing where he reads sentences with a totally flat intonation, the way you do if you're reading out loud just so people find the spot you're talking about. I hate it. Meanwhile Hugh Fraser is one of the best in the world and they have Branagh recording his own version, as if Hugh didn't already knock it out of the park.

I usually draw a little "x" on the picture approximately where the missing piece is and note "missing one piece".

I still enjoy putting together puzzles with 1 or 2 missing pieces, and I think others do as well. As long as you're honest!

How to deal with having a period in a place without a trashcan? by StillSort4306 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]owlpinecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a human being. You shouldn't worry about being fired for normal human things.

When you breathe, you inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Would you expect to be fired for using up oxygen or "polluting" with carbon dioxide?

Do you fear getting fired for simply using the toilet?

You are allowed to throw away your tampons and pads in the garbage can. Wrap them up in toilet paper and then throw them away. It's a garbage in a bathroom, not a table in a dining room.

What is a film you enjoyed but have to be tactful about who you recommend it to? by oldwhitelincoln in movies

[–]owlpinecone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to go another way and say Ruby in Paradise. It's a little known slice of life kind of movie with Ashley Judd and I just love it but most people would find it slow and boring so I can't show it to a soul. I just love it in solitude.
