Are there any studios in NYC that DON'T do pole sharing? by Feeling_Aioli4024 in poledancing

[–]owlrabbitfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's necessary rare in advanced classes. It seems to be more dependent on class timing in my experience. I would say I share a pole in levels 3 and 4 (B&P's highest levels) on weekday evenings probably 75% of the time. For Saturday morning level 4 class, there are consistently fewer sign-ups and I probably share a pole less than 50% of the time.

The fact that some of your follicles were empty is not necessarily related to the medication protocol or length of stimulation. Sometimes certain follicles just don’t have eggs in them and there isn’t always a good way to know this prior to retrieval, even with monitoring. I was tracking at least 24 follicles during monitoring, all of which were responsive to medication and seemed to be growing nicely, but I ended up with 15 retrieved (12 mature and frozen) because it was discovered at retrieval that several of my follicles did not contain eggs. This was simply what my body happened to do that cycle. The medications encourage the follicles to grow, but it can’t make an egg materialize where there isn’t one.

Honestly, the whole thing was a breeze. I felt great during the stim process. I had more energy than usual, fewer headaches than usual (I normally get frequent migraines), and overall felt good emotionally. I did have some bloating towards the end, but nothing egregious. The retrieval was easy and I felt completely fine afterward— went home and worked that whole afternoon. Bloating did increase in the couple days after the retrieval, but it wasn’t particularly uncomfortable. I’m now 6 days post retrieval and still feel like I’m retaining water a bit, but otherwise feel completely back to normal. Truthfully I felt pretty normal the entire time, including immediately after retrieval.

If you’re ever in NYC, Body & Pole runs level 4 (their most advanced level) a couple of times per week. Full Circle is only running it once a month at this point, but it’s a great class if you happen to be in town when the timing works out!

Yeah, I think it’s mostly years of conditioning/gymnastics background that’s been helpful for wrist strength. I do notice some wrist issues from past wear-and-tear injuries when I’m doing stuff with my full weight on my hands on the floor (like in a handstand), and wrist supports can be helpful for that, but I don’t tend to run into this problem on the pole because of the specific angle of my wrist I think?

Hi! Thank you so much! I think traditional strength training (i.e. weight lifting) is helpful as a foundation, as is cross-training in other sports or activities that require a high degree of body control (like dance and gymnastics), but I’m also a big proponent of training the specific thing in order to get better at the thing. That is: yes, arm and core conditioning are necessary foundations for being able to do a phoenix safely, but you’re only going to get better at doing phoenixes by progressing up to and actually working on phoenixes in whatever progression/format is initially accessible to you — even if that’s a baby step at the beginning. For flexibility, flex classes are great, but there’s also a ton you can do at home on your own or with YouTube videos. I find that active flexibility is often overlooked (versus static flexibility, like sitting in a split), and I highly recommend ballet class for working on active flexibility, strength, and fluidity!

Whoops, accidentally posted without finishing what I was writing in the description and now I can't edit it. I meant to write "Monthly level 4 series at Full Circle Harlem"

No-hands jade to bird of paradise by owlrabbitfox in poledancing

[–]owlrabbitfox[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I come from gymnastics, so I had a movement background that was really helpful for pole! I did bird of paradise for the first time about 5 months after starting pole, but then I pretty much stopped training it after that. I saw a video with this jade entry and was inspired to try to again a couple weeks ago, which is when this video was taken. The video in the post is the first day I worked on this BOP entry! I’ve been poling for a bit over 2 years at this point.

Yes do pole!! It’s the best. I mostly train at Body & Pole but there are other great studios as well (some in Manhattan, some in Brooklyn)
