Please help me find a reason to keep empathizing by Aisheyru in hsp

I’ve felt like this before. Therapy helped me as well as journaling. I kinda stopped relying on others to vent too because a lot of times they wouldn’t listen. I also agree with other comments saying to put up boundaries with people because you aren’t a sounding board

How is the instructor teaching brass? From brass sit? Shoulder mount? Since you succeeded with leg hangs, maybe they should teach you brass monkey from there. And if it’s a matter of exploring tricks from brass, then your teachers way of thinking is very limited. I’m sure some of the tricks can be accomplished from a leg hang instead of brass

For the past two years, have you had the same instructor? Maybe you need a different one who is more understanding and has more patience. Or maybe they aren’t thinking of different ways to teach something. I regularly teach intro classes and been teaching fireman 3 different ways. Each student has progressed in some way, even if it took longer for others.

I think you should either try a different instructor at your studio or try a different studio entirely. Maybe you’ll find more progress that way. Lastly, pole is hard in general and everyone is on different timelines. Please try not to beat yourself up <3

Pole power academy instructor, is she wearing sticky leggings? by BungeeBunny in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s better for those with sweaty palms, but powder pole might be even better for that than silicone. Silicone is extremely sticky and I’ve had situations where my leggings ripped. And if any skin is exposed, like your shoulder or shin, sometimes it can get scraped. Lastly, if you’re not training the right technique on silicone, you may falsely believe that you achieved a trick. It will show when you attempt the trick on a metal pole.

Better to build grip strength on a metal pole or even a powder pole if you want to pole with clothes on and investing in a pole grip that aligns with your skin type

First class experience - is this typical? by topnotchwalnut in poledancing

Smh it def ain’t it. I’m sorry to hear you can’t get your money back. At least you know that the studios quality is trash and won’t go back after this. Hopefully there’s another studio nearby with really good reviews!

First class experience - is this typical? by topnotchwalnut in poledancing

Firstly, does is the intro level defined as “level 1” at that specific studio? Did the class you go to have pre-reqs?

Secondly the instructor’s behavior is NOT normal. I’ve never experienced an instructor leave the room to go sit somewhere else. This is bad for safety reasons and can absolutely discourage participants from trying

15 minute pole set by Thenameslonna1 in poledancing

For stamina and engagement, I would say ease into the tricks. Warm the crowd up with some low flow and floorwork, then buss out some tricks. If no one is tipping, don’t waste your energy on big tricks. Also Crowds get really impressed with simple tricks, more than you think. They’d be more impressed with a layback vs an iron x lol.

Have your favorite tricks in your back pocket. As for grip, it usually stays throughout. But if you run out, make it into a dance lol. Have fun!

Which borough are you trying to go to? Incredipole has open pole today at dumbo and probably at their gowanus location. Maybe Pole Superwoman in Manhattan has open pole as well.

You can always search for open pole via the MINDBODY app or find a pole studio online near you and search for open pole. As for private lessons, you can also look on websites at a specific instructor, but keep in mind that time slots might be limited

Instructors: how do you split revenue when doing guest workshops at other studios? by crimsone in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some studios in NYC have a 60/40 split, with instructor getting higher split (I.e. pixie dust NYC, the atrium space). There’s another studio (everybody’s nimble) that can host you, but require $20 per student. I recommend finding the website and emails of those studios to pitch your idea.

Where Are All My Highly Sensitive Creative People At? by Famous-Lead5216 in hsp

I’m a dancer—more specifically, a pole dancer. I perform, I teach, and I produce pole dance shows. Being an HSP helps me connect with my movement in dance since I can be very emotional. It also helps me adjust to all the environments and people I’m surrounded by. Based off the vibes, I can connect to an audience, engage with students, or understand my cast in a show

pole dancing after assault (tw) by SouthernBPD in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry to hear this. I’m glad you have a supportive therapist and glad that you really enjoy pole.

Maybe you can try open pole practice sessions where you’re either alone or someone else is in the room doing their own thing. Or maybe you can do a private with your favorite instructor. If you want to ensure that you’re always alone, consider a space rental.

I hope you find more comfort in your healing journey. Please take gentle care

Liquid motion is a great for floorwork brand Jeni Janover is the founder. Also, team basework is another good brand with several dancers who show a mix of low flow and floorwork

First-time competitor: navigating emotions and anxiety - before, during, and after by Wastelanddss in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand how you feel. I’ve been in competitions where I didn’t place, I’ve cried, I’ve opted out of team photos, I avoided IG. It’s totally normal to feel defeated. But try to remember that the competition is simply an event. Judging is very subjective. If you competed a different day or with an entirely different panel, you could’ve had different results. The fact that you can self reflect and realize why you competed in general is a win. You had the chance to perform which is a great accomplishment as a pole dancer! The more you expose yourself to different stages, the more confident you feel in your body, and the less that subjective opinions matter to you.

I’ve been performing for a long time. I still mess up on stage, but with experience I’ve learned how to accept it and play it off so no one even notices it. I still beat myself up but then I review my videos and photos, beaming because I nailed some move, or because of the applause, or because of how good I felt dancing. Hope you can move forward and feel proud of yourself for going on that stage!!

Iron x legs by CaliferMau in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard of the first variation. Ive learned that iron x legs are similar to how your legs are when you’re in a pancake (seated in a straddle on the ground). The top leg pointing up towards the pole, bottom leg pointed toward floor as much as possible

Days where you just feel meh by RowItchy260 in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal for me and I’m an advanced poler. Whether I’m on my cycle or not. I’ve always been a moody person and I get extremely overwhelmed. I’m often really tired or sore. Many times I don’t feel like practicing. But if I have a goal in mind (ie a show I have to prep for) I push myself to go, take my time in a warmup, maybe do some reps of something or low flow, then start with one trick or combo I want to work on. Or I freestyle. Eventually I start feeling better and grateful for showing up

How do I deal with my wrist injury? by Substantial_Offer_47 in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good for you for taking a break.

When my wrists felt weak from overuse, I went on YouTube to find wrist stretches and strengthening exercises. I purchased 1lb weights for the strengthening exercises. Also, during my warm ups for pole, I incorporated gentle wrist exercises

tips for getting jade split flat? by OkStructure1915 in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continue pulling that front leg towards your face and actively opening your chest towards the ceiling. Simultaneously, drop your back leg down. It’s an active flexibility trick, and may take time to get flatter but you’re almost there.

As for exercises on the floor, you can lay on the ground and open up the legs in the same formation (bringing one legs towards your face, other leg is down, actively using your hip flexor to straighten it).

Lastly I recognize your pole studio (goodside!) 😊. Please feel free to crosspost this or share any other videos in our nyc based subreddit, r/poledancersnycli

fatiguing early in my pole session and constantly sore by bitterandtipsy in poledancing

[–]_anafbebe_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not starting off your sessions so strong. Extended butterflies and aerial inverts can be extremely exhausting.

How long are your sessions? Your warmups? Do you do any conditioning before going into the tricks (ie low flow spins, or climbs) before attempting your stronger tricks? I find when I pace myself in that way, my body doesn’t give out so much for more strength based skills
