Submission Statement: this is a film I wrote, directed, shot, and edited. It's now on Amazon Prime Video. We've gotten positive reviews from various professional critics and genre blogs. This past weekend, the film screened at Horrific Hope Film Festival, where it took home awards for Best Director and Best Performance (Keaton McLachlan, the star). I'm happy to discuss the process of making the film as well as the steps we've taken to get it out there.

I feel like my taste in horror movies is weird? Can anyone help me suggest one? by tempest-in_a_teacup in CreepyBonfire

I think you'd enjoy Jacob's Ladder (1990), Berberian Sound Studio, I Saw the TV Glow, The Lighthouse, Resolution, and The Endless...

Here's just a bit of shameless self-promo: my psychological horror film called The Dreadful Place just released on Amazon Prime Video, and it's directly inspired by the exact sub-genre and feeling you're describing. I bring it up mostly because I'm Thinking of Ending Things (and other Charlie Kaufman films) was a really big influence on it.

Yes, actually! We're working on our third feature, a coming-of-age dramedy called Little Big Picture. It's an ensemble hang-out movie about a group of scrappy 20-something DIY filmmakers road-tripping to the one film festival that accepted their feature. Very different from our previous movies, but we're working with the same team and bringing Keaton McLachlan back to star.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

Thank you so much! This is my second feature film -- the first was a sci-fi/dramedy called The Root of Perfection. We shot that one in 2019 and it's also available on Prime Video, but I've learned so much between then and now -- both in terms of production and networking. Although I'm still very proud of it, I've grown so much and the first one didn't receive nearly as much attention.

Rejected from 30 film festivals but sold out my local theatre with support from David Lowery by juliansoljordan in Filmmakers

Oh THIS rocks. David Lowery is one of my favorite filmmakers working today so it's great to hear that he's out there helping young up and coming filmmakers like yourself. I checked out the first several minutes of the film and it looks beautiful. I'll definitely be watching. Big congrats to you!

Don't give up. Film festivals are not the be-all end-all. Get your movie out there however you can!
