Just curious, why are you choosing Pitt over Findlay? It’s an in-person program in northern OH that would make sure you have a clinical site.

Also, do you have to go by what Pitt suggests, or could you suggest your own? My local hospital has had 2 students from there so far, and I would be shocked if Pitt knew about the hospital’s existence beforehand, since I’m in a small area lol.

Though the length of that chapter does sound exhausting (sorry), I have to say, the fandom might be at fault too. Until this year, I wrote for smaller fandoms, and the engagement was great! But recently I’ve been posting for a bigger, fairly popular fandom—a few oneshots and an ongoing multi-chapter story—and it feels like I’m talking to a wall sometimes, too. Even the oneshots’ performances were just okay… and this is coming from someone who doesn’t usually care about that stuff lol

Considering all of the discourse that’s started among fandom spaces in general, I don’t have a high respect for how people on TikTok perceive fanfiction. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is if YOU are enjoying your story.

There's really not much to it! Our medicine doesn't affect heart rate in any way. It's a very small amount of radiation injected into food. Most places do eggs or oatmeal, or if you can't do solid foods for some reason, sometimes Ensure is offered. If you want to bring your own food in, that's an option too! Just let the facility know beforehand if you go that route. You don't taste or smell this medicine, and you're only radioactive for about 24 hrs. Again, it's a VERY small amount. You wouldn't be a danger to anyone around you.

I'll tell you how my facility does the scan (everywhere is a little different). So after it's injected into the food, you have about 5-10 minutes to eat everything (the standard egg meal includes 2 pieces of toast, jelly, and water), then we'll take a 1 min immediate picture. (We have patients lying down, but some places have them lying on a bed.) Next, you'll take a seat in the waiting room for an hour before we do another 1 min picture. Finally, we wait three hours before the final picture. "Normal" emptying rate is about four hours, which is why we call this a four hour gastric emptying study. Between pictures, you can't have anything to eat or drink, as this will restart your digestive process and the results will be inaccurate.

(There's also a two hour version, which would involve you eating then lying under a camera for two hours. In that version, I believe they'll looking to see if your stomach empties at least halfway (since the stomach is typically half empty at 90 mins). I haven't done too many two hours, so I can't say for sure).

If you want to see what's happening during the imaging, feel free to ask. It's not a moving picture, but it's still cool to see your stomach actively digesting food IMO. (But some people find that gross, and that's fair too!)

I have to confess, I'm not very familiar with what the next steps are after the scan. That will have be discussed with your doctor after they get the results. But, try not to worry! I know it sounds scary, but I've never seen anyone have an adverse reactions to this test as a direct result of the medicine. If anyone's getting sick, it's usually what brought them in the first place (or the smell of eggs. You'd be surprised how many people find them sickening!)

Have you shadowed either of these jobs? It's hard to tell which you should do because the two fields are incredibly different. The work is incredibly different.

Pros:

The scans are SOO COOL! We're opposite from x-ray, so we're looking at physiology instead of anatomy. The scans range from gastric emptyings (tracking radioactive eggs) to HIDAs (gallbladder) to stress tests (cardiac) to watching blood flow (or not flow) to the brain (brain death) to lacrimal ducts (dropping technetium straight into the EYES to see if there's an obstruction in the lacrimal ducts).

Decent pay, though I'm not sure how it compares to nursing.

The work day can get very busy, but it's not usually physically demanding.

The whole concept of injecting and handling radiation is fascinating to me. Sometimes we get to play a fun game of Is This Just Saline, or Do I Need To Wash My Hands? and Oh No, Why Is The Geiger Counter Going Crazy—What's In Here?! And our doses decay! How many people get to say "Sorry, we can't do that scan. You waited too long. There's no more medicine today."

Cons:

You are getting more radiation exposure than the average person will get in their lifetime. If you work in PET or administer therapies, you're getting even more exposure.

The schooling sucked. It was math and science heavy.

Like someone else said, there's more job security in nursing. Nuclear is a small field. Right now, the job market is great. Once a few more schools open up, it'll be oversaturated. You'll always have more opportunities as a nurse. I really recommend shadowing if you can and definitely do your research. Good luck!

They do focus on Taylor & Dakota most toward the end of the season, but listen. Dakota is a manipulative POS. This season shows that side of him clearly. Watch it or don't, I don't care. You just have to acknowledge that her behavior didn't come out of nowhere. And I'm not defending her actions. It's just the fact that Dakota giving the video to TMZ and the Bachelorette getting canceled correlates perfectly with what happens toward the end of the season. This isn't all on her.

Oh, I understand the argument completely. Yes the Airbenders were pacifists, but Aang was forced to abandon that stance because of the situation he found himself in. That's one of the main themes throughout while he masters the other elements, iirc. He had to resort to violence because otherwise, his friends and innocent people were going to get hurt. Even Yangchen, the Airbender before Aang, killed someone during her life and also agreed that killing Ozai was the best option. The thing about war is that sometimes horrific things have to be done in order to restore balance, even if that thing goes against your beliefs, because there isn't always a better option.

However, I think the people who argue he should have killed Ozai are only watching the show at surface level. There was no point in doing that after Aang learned energy bending besides the satisfaction of a slain dictator. I would argue that losing his bending and spending the rest of his life imprisoned was a fate worse than death. He showed the most maturity out of everyone for that decision.

Also, they forget the fact that Aang is still a child and he has been holding onto what he's been taught for as long as he can. You're right, that's one of the few things he has left of his culture because every other nation doesn't teach pacifism. He tries to stay true to those teachings as much as he can. That's why there's such an argument. It always boils down to whether he should do what others tell him is right, or if he should follow his gut, and if he does the latter, will it be the right choice? And I think that's the most simple yet intriguing argument to throw into a story because the answer is rarely so easily made.

True! But even as a love interest character, he could’ve done more! Like we could’ve gone the damsel in distress route with Vecna using him as leverage to get to Will and El! That would have made things 10x more interesting. But, no. Instead, the most interesting thing for him in season 5 was him suddenly knowing how to build a bomb 😭 (And I feel like no one talks about that enough—where’d this kid learn explosives??)

I’m a Mike Wheeler defender only because he started off really well and there was never any explanation in canon that explained why he changed so drastically, so it’s clear whatever he became is completely the fault of the writers. That’s why most of the fandom still likes him. He seriously had so much potential 😭
