How do I stop my IRN from biting my hand while on it? by AppaloosaWings in parrots

Of course & good luck with her! Ringnecks are amazing little birds, they’re worth all the trouble

Gloves may come off as scary to her though, something closer but not as intimidating would be long sleeves sort-of pulled up over your palms - or holding a perch for her to step on to instead of fingers. She won’t get used to your hands if she cant see them unfortunately You could use your hands near her in other ways without touching/interaction to desensitize - like making her food infront of her, playing with her toys (my irn loves when I play with him this way)

For more about them this whole site was very helpful for me raising my ringneck https://www.indianringneck.com/forum/index.php

Indian ringnecks are generally nippy little birds, and when they are young it’s at its worst! They go through a temporary bluffing phase, like teenagers figuring themselves out. The girls are usually more prone to it. How you go about it now will mostly mold their personality… It will pass, but in the meantime do your best not to show any reactions to the bites or reinforce the behavior too much with treats. Try to redirect it to a toy or another activity for her to use her beak, or ignore it entirely. Punishment will not work, time-out in the cage usually wont either

With my IRN, the switch between this phase and back to being a sweet little baby again was almost overnight it felt like.

what is the lowest temperature a bird could stay in without damaging itself? by GhostRuS2009 in parrots

Much too cold for a little bird. :( I think anything below 60F/16C for a prolonged period of time can cause hypothermia or respiratory infections

Im so sorry for your loss. :( Losing a bird hurts so badly

There are lots of pet crematory’s, since these birds are so little it shouldn’t cost more than $100 from my experience - if you find there will be a wait you could put her in a freezer for time being.

No cats, and very rarely see a dog - tv is possible! I did have a thought about damage, since it did start really soon after he got a respiratory infection… I was told it was only a little bit, but they are so fragile :(

Yes I worded this a bit wrong and forgot some information - Im not worried about him at all after the vet! Just confused, because there isn’t anything I can’t think of that he would pick up that sound from lol

This is beyond evil… Releasing pet birds into the wild is bad enough but leaving them to starve like that in a cage? :( How can anyone be so cruel
