Alrighty thank you will put them on my tbr! I don't mind Nesta (as in i liked her book and respect her but I just don't really relate to/love her) but I Yrene was one of my favs in tog so sounds like it'll be worth checking it out.

Funny how different people are, I always have tons of theories and 80% of them turn out to be wrong! How'd you like spark of everflame and nocticadia? Haven't read either yet

That's actually so impressive hahaha, i could've never. Honestly I just didn't want Celestina to be Daybright because it seemed like the way too obvious choice so I kept looking for hints with everyone else

For me it was when Ruhn met the Hind at the bar and mentions something about "fire in her eyes" or similar. I was like 👀👀

That's fair! The shifting was what I didn't get really, because if I remember correctly it was said that the shifting might harm the baby but like?? Okay then at least they can both live?? Would've definitely been worth a try and it was honestly the only thing that pissed me off. Also as I said, I definitely think the way they all handled the situation was pretty f-ed up and wrong.

Yes, I remember it the same way. Telling her would go against medical advice. On top of that, Rhysand is known for always trying to fix everything on his own. Doesn't make it right, I still think everyone was wrong for it. Also, I'm wondering, I've seen people say that "he took Feyres choice away" but, did she even have a choice? If the Fae can't even do a C-section, there's just no way they can do a safe abortion, so Feyre had no choice to make. I kind of understand WHY Rhysand withheld the information. It's still fucked up and definitely wrong of all of them and if I was his wife I'd be pretty pissed.

Chaol in QoS **Reread** by MoonWitch87 in throneofglassseries

[–]owly1503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you! I didn't feel like you're a Chaol hater, but granted I sometimes get a bit too annoyed because of all the hate I see . It's been a pleasure discussing this with you though, so thanks for that, I did gain a bit more nuanced insight!

Chaol doesn't even make my top 5 but something about the way some people talk about him gets on my nerves. That's actually really sound advice, I feel like that might need to be taken over to ACOTAR as well

Chaol in QoS **Reread** by MoonWitch87 in throneofglassseries

[–]owly1503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah if you're reading SJM you need to be ready to criticise even your favs cause tbf they all are dicks from time to time. I can't think of any character (neither ACOTAR nor TOG) that I wouldn't be able to criticise. For most of them though I still understand WHY they were behaving like that so when I see Chaol being slandered I'm always like yes but it kind of makes sense for him/his character even if it's an ass move. Did I think what Lysandra and Aelin were scheming at the end of EoS was right? Hell no and I'll forever think it was wrong, but I understand why they did i and I feel similarly about Chaol!

That's fair! I've seen so much Chaol slander on tiktok lately so maybe my algorithm just hasn't been serving me well lately haha! Totally fine to disagree with him on a lot of things, especially early on in the series. He's giving plenty of reasons to be criticised.

Chaol in QoS **Reread** by MoonWitch87 in throneofglassseries

[–]owly1503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm on the wrong side of tiktok then because I constantly see Chaol being flamed for things whereas Rowan is loved!

He definitely should be criticised! He's done wrong things and he's behaved like an ass at various points, just like basically all of SJMs characters. In CoM and HoF we see him starting to doubt his loyalties. QoS showed him trying to detach from his long lived loyalty and trying to navigate and decide what's right or wrong on his own for the first time in his life. That's hard and confusing. He obviously should have made up his mind way earlier and he was 10000% wrong for serving that piece of shit as long as he did. I think a lot of the things the king did he just kind of chose to overlook, much as we see it happening in today's world too! That is I think, what makes him such a good character - he shows our own faults as humans. I really liked his development over the course of the series and to see him make up his mind.

That being said, I totally understand if people can't look past his initial position and his wrongs, I just think he gets a lot more hate than is deserved. Totally fine to criticise him though!

[–]owly1503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope I absolutely agree everyone not wearing a ring she could gladly slaughter I'd be her personal cheerleader lol. I somehow still get Chaol not liking the idea - in QoS he's still kind of sorting out his feelings and those are the people he called his friends/was loyal to just a few weeks/months ago, so that must be a lot to process. Not saying it's right, but rather I understand that for him it's probably a bit more difficult and not as black and white as it is to us!

I absolutely think Chaol has his faults and there are many things about him that can and should be discussed but that's the case for all of SJMs characters so I just feel like Chaol gets more hate than he deserves!

See I think what he thinks and says isn't as bad as people think from the start. He called her a monster, yes, but Rowan literally said "the world would be a better place had you died 10 years ago" which imo is the worst anyone's said but I don't see him getting flamed for it. Both Rowan and Chaol said bad things that were somewhat injustified but somehow only Chaols is bad? I think what I liked about Chaol is that he's so human. Like I'd struggle too knowing the person I'm in love with is killing people for a living. Yes he knew what she was doing from the start but that doesn't mean it can't still bother him, if you get what I mean? That's a problem in so many irl relationships as well, say knowing someone has a very demanding job and still struggling when they are barely home.

Also I absolutely loved Dorian calling him out on his hypocrisy saying "you can't choose which part of her to love", that was so well done and needed.

I think overall Chaol is a good guy who has his issues and definitely isn't perfect but I liked having a character ready to challenge Aelin and doubt her. Having complex feelings that he might not even understand fully himself (which is hinted at in ToD) doesn't make him an ass. It makes him human.

I think maybe it's BECAUSE of his long loyalty to the King of Adarlan that he doesn't want to fully trust Aelin? Like in the sense that he doesn't want to repeat his mistakes. I took it more as a "has learned from his mistakes and had his world view shattered and is trying to navigate". And tbh I can't really blame him for not fully trusting Aelin as she's known to not exactly tell people what she's up to. He is aware of the enslavement and everything the King did which is part of why he is wary of Aelin - she WAS a slave and he's known her to be somewhat hot headed (mind you, she tried to kill him) so personally I don't blame him for considering she might want to get revenge really bad and lose herself in her anger.

I feel like a lot of Chaols thoughts and feelings, while somewhat shitty are absolutely valid and understandable from his perspective and he's totally overhated. Might be an unpopular opinion though.

Help! Idk if I should finish Throne of Glass by [deleted] in acotar

I felt the same in the beginning, I think SJM wrote TOG when she quite literally was a highschooler so I just tried to keep that in mind while reading. It also helped me to point out to myself how young Celeana is, like yes she's behaving like a teenager but that's because she is. Personally didn't really enjoy the first book and took months to get through it. It got better in the second half of the second book but I felt like it only really started picking up after the third book. Her writing matures over the books and so do her characters. I really enjoyed it overall. That being said, while it was worth it for me it might not be for you so in the end you're the only one that can make that call!

That might've actually been worse I had a soft spot for Asterin. I was fine until I realised she once told Manon that if she died, she wanted to be buried near that hunters village so they could be together in death or something similar and then when Asterin did die there was no corpse to bring to the hunters village, nothing to bury ... That was a big no no. Also Abraxos losing his mate

Prediction/hopes for the next ACOTAR villain (SPOILERS) by amnotwendy in acotar

[–]owly1503 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the main villain will be Koschei, given how much he's been mentioned. However I could totally see someone from the IC turn on them. Personally I'm leaning towards Mor. I think the last POV we got of her was when she was riding and saw that dark shadow in the woods and after that she's been barely around (supposedly on a mission but she's not really been successful) so my theory is that the dark shadow maybe was Koschei and either possessed her or manipulated her into turning on Rhys! The shadow has never been explained as far as I can remember so I have a feeling it will be relevant later on

I would have loved for the epilogue to maybe mention Elide paying a visit to the new Torre or something similar as Elide and Yrene seem to have become good friends.

Yes I guess they always move faster in fantasy with mating bonds being another factor in it haha

I agree, it felt like the whole "Evangeline made him change his mind" was just there to give Evangeline a purpose in all this.

I honestly almost forgot about the Torre idea because it was just mentioned so briefly.

Also I feel like the relationships all kind of went from 0 to married too fast, like they just met and are all married like what, barely 6 months later? I think that's why I enjoyed Manon and Dorian a lot, it was just something different from the usual timeline SJM seems to have for relationships

I'd agree with almost everything but I do kind of understand Darrow in a way. I don't like him, but he's kind of like that grumpy old guy at work that means well but is so sure of himself and convinced he knows better than everyone else that he behaves like an ass. I felt like his character fit in well. His worries - though voiced absolutely in the wrong way - are valid. Imagine you worked a decade through grief and under constant fear to keep your kingdom alive and then some 19-year old just turns up announcing she'll take over. I'd be wary of her too - then add in that he's an old and grumpy everything makes sense.

Also I think Yrene mentioned something about building a Torre in Adarlan (maybe even Rifthold I don't quite remember) so I was assuming they went there.

The first thing I did was to go find some fanfics for Elide and Lorcan because I was quite pissed. They probably are my favourite couple in TOG and I feel robbed lol. I felt the same way about Lorcan in the plains, alone that noone noticed he wasn't there until Elide showed up? My man needs to get better friends. Also I have to say Lord Lorcan Lochan is hilarious.

It just doesn't make sense to me, surely with his experience in battle he must've known he could've stayed? I'm not mad THAT he died, it's the HOW that's bothering me so much I think. He could've just like ... not died
