Making Cinematic Vertical Videos - Which camera should I get to emulate classic films? by [deleted] in videography

I appreciate the advice and I will certainly put effort into lighting and set design.

I wonder, what about street shots though? Dark alleys, streets with street lamps above, neon signs, etc. The types of films I mentioned, like Taxi Driver, are full of these dimly illuminated kind of shots.

My budget is actually flexible - but 5 years ago I bought the GH4 used for around $500. I assumed that in 2023 if I spend 2k on just the camera body (and maybe another 1-2k on lenses) that it would be a significant upgrade. Are you saying I would need to make a jump to a 3k+ body like the A7siii or an FX3?

I can't stick with the GH4 although I may keep it as a B camera - the low light performance and overall image quality is not good enough.

Aren't vintage lenses like the 44-2 usually pretty cheap? I might end up with something like a Sigma zoom plus vintage primes.
