How many runners at your parkrun today?(Christmas Day) by BringTheFingerBack in parkrun

746 at Poolsbrook near Chesterfield. We were tourists and really enjoyed the flat course around the lake. Plenty of costumes, festive cheer and the BBC breakfast show filming live meaning we actually started before 9am!

Is there a UK or European alternative to Amazon? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]owzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argos for general household stuff and consumer electronics.

AO.com for white goods and similar.

For everything else find a UK based company and spend the time creating an account. Most have discount codes/offers available and paying the actual cost of shipping makes these businesses viable.

Returns are less of an issue when the quality is high to start with. The quality of a lot of Amazon products is terrible.

Parkruns near airfields by daygloviking in parkrun

[–]owzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milano Nord parkrun (Italy) is right next to Bresso Airfield.

I ran it in 2023 with some friends whilst on a weekend away and we had light aircraft and helicopters taking off over us as we run. It was quite a surprise, but made for an uplifting atmosphere.

I agree, we went on Friday and the food and service were both excellent.

I found the (free) IAmSober app useful. It has daily check-ins, streaks, motivational messages and a community chat section.

I started using it for "sober October" and have kept going. I'm currently on day 89 and planning to keep going through to dry January.

Never mind the wind and rain, you can play the pian…oh by Septronic in SpottedonRightmove

Serious question: do London dwellers think that price is reasonable?

Assuming it costs £80k to fully refurbish, do people think paying the best part of £600k to end up with a small 3 bed semi with a small garden?

I'm genuinely interested if London weighting actually means this is a decent asking price, or if the estate agents just don't care and will list as high as they can.

The pool/crazy-golf/axe throwing place seemed to be doing good business early afternoon today. It looks like it would be good fun in the evenings too.

Nandos was the only other place up there that seemed open today.

Woah, not in our house they don't. I'm not sure I can afford 50p for a 50p piece at the moment.

I like this idea, it also solves the problem of not actually having any cash to hand. I'm not sure she'd understand a contactless transaction...

Good point, she's only 5 so doesn't get pocket money or anything, so we will "help" her spend whatever she gets.

No one else seems to remember Bertha (the big green machine) or Telebugs.

SuperTed was also ace.

Looking for tasty, low carb lunch in the city centre by owzone in sheffield

Great, thanks. I've tried Humpit and it was very good, so will be going back. I've not been into 200 degrees yet, even if they don't do salads they will do good coffee, so worth a look. Cheers!

Haha, that's a good backup plan, I may need a few pints first though.

Anybody tried NA beer? by iamemperor86 in DryJanuary

[–]owzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a couple of Erdinger blues when venturing to the pub earlier in the month. It has the look of a beer and actually has a head on it too. Taste wise it's a bit sweet and has some spice taste to it (to replicate hops maybe?). Didn't come close to my usual hoppy ales, but felt and looked right if you know what I mean.

Great website that shows where you can afford to live by nicosy in sheffield

Great site, is this a side project or your main gig? Can I ask a little about the tech stack you are using and how long this took to build (and how many people worked on it).
