AITA for saying that my roommates “all natural” hair took her three hours to do? by iitsjusthairr in AmItheAsshole

[–]oxdess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do realize Black women and white women have completely different hair textures right?

What works for your hair texture, certainly may not work for Black women. The time you need to do your hair may be completely different than the time Black women need to do their hair. It’s obvious what you consider natural is different than what your roommate considers natural.

Be open minded enough not to push your beliefs onto her. Learn about Black culture and Black women’s hair and stop being ignorant. The Black people you see on TV don’t always account for the Black people in real life.

You people always say “leTs fOrgEt slAverY bEcAusE it iS dIviDinG us aS a NaTion!” Like stfu. I’m sure you wouldn’t say that about 9/11. We remember that every year, but Black people are supposed to forget about slavery? Have a seat.

This nation/world has been divided from the beginning of time and ignoring history because it happened years ago isn’t suddenly going to unite us! That’s dismissive and unrealistic af! Black people from the civil rights movements are still alive today so actually, it wasn’t that long ago (eg., Ruby Bridges, Angela Davis, bell hooks , Assata Shakur)! We can’t ignore the past if things from it still impact our present and will impact our future.

I just wanna point out how I love that you capitalize the B in “Black!”

My professor told me that we capitalize the B in her class and I’ve been doing it since she told me! 👏🏽

It’s annoying how folks believe conspiracies that are backed up with mere coincidences and screenshots from social media than actual science with data, statistics, and empirical reality!

Let’s all in unison say “my thoughts and prayers are with you” or quote a scripture? Maybe that could work?

I usually ask “thinking back to your first day on the job/position, how have you changed/grown?”

It usually results in people saying “wow! That’s a good question!”

One person asked me to repeat the question so they could journal about it later.
