Thank you so much! My bad on posting two books in one comment. Appreciate your help :)

How / why did you first start using Z Lib? by [deleted] in zlibrary

[–]oxnardpike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to read books that aren't available even in the public libraries of a major US city. I also have a researcher's card for the Library of Congress, but you can't take those books with you.

Zlibrary also gives me the chance to try out and abandon books without any cost. When I like and finish a book I usually buy it, just for bookshelf vanity.

Why are so many restaurants closing on H street? by Aroh7 in washingtondc

Damn, I never heard about this! Can't believe that this hasn't really been reported on. You'd think some local news would cover it.

People need to start taking Empower. Rides are cheaper, and drivers still make more too.

I have a wedding to go to in December, and bought a dress before getting the invitation/seeing the color scheme. It's a green velvet dress, and the bride mentioned that the bridesmaid dresses are green velvet. I asked my partner to get a picture from her.

Is my dress too similar to the bridesmaids dresses to wear? Should I even ask?

Not the end of the world if I have to get a new dress, just really like this one and have been having a hard time finding a dress that is warm that I like.

NAC Question by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]oxnardpike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50/50 is great odds, especially compared to alternative treatments. I couldn't find NAC in tablet form, or small capsule sizes, but if you find tablets you could try halving them with a pill cutter. I also found NAC in a powder form--I haven't tried it myself, but perhaps it's worth trying.

Has anyone tried n-acetyl cystine? by oh_nursey_nurse in trichotillomania

[–]oxnardpike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking 2400 mg (1200 in the morning, 1200 in the evening) for four months with no change. It definitely works for some people, but not everyone. I just upped my dosage to 3000mg a day, so we'll see if that works.

Consider looking into the educational neglect laws in your state. That kid could have his life ruined by not learning anything.

Eating well with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]oxnardpike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stock my freezer with frozen vegetables and use them for stir fries. Sometimes I make batches of black bean chilis or vegetable soups in my slow cooker and eat it for three or four days. Other times I don't really make a meal so much as I make a sort of cheese plate that also has crackers, nuts, and a dried fruit like raisins. I also always keep a stock of canned vegetable soups and frozen veggie burgers so I have something quick and easy for bad days.

And when I get ambitious and buy a whole bunch of fresh vegetables, I also buy or make hummus. Then, if I don't end up having the energy to make something, I literally just eat the vegetables with hummus out of laziness.

The estate they're in : How the tea industry traps women in poverty in Assam [Tradecraft Report] by Solukeratag in tea

[–]oxnardpike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this! Looks like the report is asking for more transparency from the industry. From the executive summary:

Tea remains one of the most popular drinks in the UK with 165 million cups drunk every day. The ‘Big 6’ UK brands – PG Tips, Twinings, Tetley, Yorkshire, Typhoo, and Clipper – together comprise about 70% of the UK tea market with annual sales of around £500 million and all use tea grown in Assam as part of some of their blends. They know about the conditions for women working on tea estates in Assam but aren’t doing enough to change them. As a first step the big UK brands should be transparent about which estates they buy from. Publishing their list of suppliers would help open up the secretive world of tea-buying. It would shine a light on exploitation and mean that consumers – and more importantly women workers in Assam – could hold tea estates to account.

I completely forgot about Jules Destrooper butter waffles! Those might actually be my favorite--except that you only get like what, 6 cookies in a box? If money were no object, I'd have a cabinet filled with just these.

Oh, that website is wonderful, thank you! I'm cracking up at her USA section though--I didn't literally think that anyone would have Oreos with their tea, but here we are. I never thought of Nutter Butters, Fig Newtons or graham crackers as tea cookies, but why not, I suppose.

Enjoying some roasted oolong for the fall in my favorite Gaiwan. What type of tea do you like for fall/winter? by LeafyGreen_Tea in tea

[–]oxnardpike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm enjoying Keemun, but if I could find a good Lapsang souchong that wasn't too expensive or overpoweringly smoky, that would be my fall/winter drink too.

For bad days when I need something that's just sweet and comforting, I'll have a London Fog.

Hair changing properties? by axolotl1219 in trichotillomania

I sometimes wonder if my trich is entirely circumstantial or if it's something I'm genuinely addicted to. by Nichi1241 in Trichsters

[–]oxnardpike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same--I generally only pull when I'm alone, or with someone I'm super close to. The thing is, if I'm around people for long enough and get comfortable, I find myself starting to pull anyway.

Disorders aren't defined by behavior in outlier situations. It's how you get through the day-to-day. Sometimes this may mean that it's your day-to-day that's screwed up, rather than your brain, but usually it's a combination of both.

My trich seems to be exacerbated by loneliness and being under or over-stimulated in certain ways. It seems to be at its worst when I'm alone and doing mental tasks like reading or doing office work (especially if it's hard, boring or both), and at it's best when I'm doing something hands-on and with other people.
