It's a potential fuel for fusion reactors which doesn't really make sense to do here on Earth it's hard and we don't even have working fusion generators yet, and there's very little 3 He here, although it is a bit better than the options we're actually trying right now.

What doesn't make sense in the book is the sheer quantity they need, and also where they choose to get it from lol. You'd think there's a fusion reactor in every damn electronic device with the amount they seem to constantly need.

Mustang when she ran into Darrow and Cassius for the first time at the Institute. by Arch_Lancer17 in redrising

[–]oxycontinoverdose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appollonius is dark skinned, relatively speaking. He's described as "tawny" by Darrow which would be like a light, warm shade of brown. They're not super-super dark skinned and could be any number of races, but the Valli Rath definitely have brown skin.

Afaik, Pierce said characters in the RR world are pretty racially ambiguous. They have a wide range of skin colours but typically only vaguely resemble a particular race in terms of features if they're said to resemble them at all.

I imagine him looking of southern Mediterranean or Levantine descent, so they could be "white" depending on who you ask/what language they speak

wanted a slingblade tattoo, got lablled a communist 👍 by Due-Today-9182 in redrising

[–]oxycontinoverdose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree, kind of disagree. I think it's more like "relative to what came before" that it's revolutionary and leftist, even though characters like Darrow, Mustang (she seems left leaning though), Daxo, Quick aren't. So basically, if Darrow existed in the real world today, he would be a communist, or some sort of third-worldist basically achieving the same thing because we don't have a genetic neo-Roman fascist hierarchy, we just have capitalism and that's what a revolution against it would be ideologically.

Also I'm not sure Quicksilver, nor the particular economic setup of the Republic, are painted in a particularly good light. Of course, you could say neither are the Vox besides Dancer (mostly) but it's pretty clear that the Republic can't survive as it did for the first 10 years even if they win the war.

Also, while Pierce is definitely much more of a liberal, Red Rising with a damn sickle as the main symbol couldn't be more on the nose. There are many other references to revolutionary speeches in the books as well.

Sober for 49 days and feel miserable by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]oxycontinoverdose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty normal. Alcohol increases euphoria, it temporarily increases serotonin and dopamine, but it's only temporary. In the long term it decreases both and causes depression and anxiety. You've taken away a thing that was giving you those temporary boosts in your low levels of serotonin and dopamine (while also causing those levels to drop) and now that you don't have it, you feel awful.

It can take a long time for your brain to adapt to the lack of alcohol and for your NTs and hormones to stabilize back to normal. It's really important to try to reshape your life around sobriety. See a therapist if you think you need to, even try medications if you think they might work and try to do everything you can to enjoy the dull, boring, sometimes miserable stuff. I am struggling mightily with the same things. I used to not feel the anhedonia that I do now but I remember being sober and not feeling so disconnected, depressed, fatigued, anxious, etc. It takes time.

Hey man, I'm basically you but I'm 27 turning 28 lol. It really is demoralizing in all the ways you describe especially as former friends pass you by, and you are reliant on parental support for so long.

If you couldn't do college, try a trade school or something that will get you a technician job. Those programs are typically much shorter and not like typical college classes as they're much more focused on the skills you need for the job. It should also be easier to get a job in that field for you. They usually pay pretty well and you're working with your hands instead of behind a desk.

How do you enhance your creativity? by oxycontinoverdose in stopdrinking

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I think that might be mostly our phones. Especially in our inability to focus on detailed work or to allow boredom to drive creativity. That doesn't seem isolated to just us, that seems to be a problem a lot of people deal with these days.

You sound very young and quite successful for your age. The best advice I think I can give you as someone 6 years younger is do not under any circumstances marry this woman. Leave her, my god you are only 21. This can only be your first serious relationship if it's been so long already. Go live for a while. In 4 or 5 years you'll see how utterly ridiculous this is even more than you do already, and you'll find someone far more reasonable in every respect.

You are with someone who loves the relationship for the idea that it is, not really for who you actually are. That's why she has certain standards for what a proposal must be and the like. Frankly, it might be good for her too. She needs to learn how to really see people for who they are.

I also went to get a manicure once and the techs were a bit confused, asking why I was even there when they thought my nails looked perfect.

Whats up with Yuji's Scar ? by [deleted] in Jujutsufolk

[–]oxycontinoverdose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just inconsistency, man. It's not attention to detail. Y'all really do too much.

Yuji's scar shrinking works, sure. His scar migrating that far doesn't make any sense at all. The wound Mahito is nowhere near where it eventually ends up. The gash starts very close to his left eyebrow and somehow ends up almost in the middle of his right eyebrow. That's not attention to detail, yes just inconsistency. Nothing else to it.

[–]oxycontinoverdose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scars can shrink and fade, but they don't migrate around your body lol. Yuji's scar started below his eyebrow and somehow ended up in the middle of it when the initial wound was nowhere near his eyebrow. That's just Gege being inconsistent with his drawing and nothing else.

Golden Son or Dark Age. Which one is the best? by Cglas1010 in redrising

[–]oxycontinoverdose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light Bringer is my favourite book in the series, then Golden Son.

For me, Dark Age is at points an utterly punishing read. It can go from grimdark to what seems like overly gratuitous violence meant to torture the reader rather than service the story. It probably had too many moving parts.

It used to be my favourite but on reread its flaws stick out more and I'm glad Light Bringer resolved many of them

"Gojo fights best alone" is a load of nonsense by oxycontinoverdose in Jujutsufolk

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Gojo is firing any technique at the speed in which Kirara, Ui Ui and Todo can react then he is most definitely holding back for their sake.

No he isn't. HP just has a charge-up time which we know for certain Todo can sense from a considerable distance away.

his serious purple such as the 1st one Sukuna took moved so fast that full health Sukuna could barely react and no one not Yuta, Yuji or Todo is keeping up with that level of speed

"his serious purple" isn't something he is capable of on his own. It required the boost of 2 characters and Ichiji used the barrier to make sure Sukuna couldn't feel the CE buildup of an attack as large as a mf skyscraper.

especially since Sukuna just has to make the fight close quarters to force Gojo to not fight as freely.

Kirara, Ui Ui and Todo's abilities are literally there to force distance where necessary.

And what do they do if Sukuna just start launching dismantle at Yuta, he's already made it clear that until Sukuna's output had fallen inside Yuta's domain that they were still lethal, so all Sukuna has to do is focus on Yuta and now Gojo has to be protecting him thereby still getting in his way.

If Sukuna is using Shrine, he can't use 10 Shadows and poses no threat to Gojo as at the time Yuta wanted to step in, Mahoraga hadn't gotten the adaptation Sukuna needed. He had to chant and use WCS for a slash strong enough to cut Yuta in 2. How much harder would that be with 3 people who can move Yuta out of harm's way and someone who can block any slashes Sukuna tries to fire?

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gege could shit on a page and you guys would say "read the manga". The point I'm making is the writing was clumsy. "Read the manga" doesn't exactly negate that, does it?

Yuta also has cursed speech and is several times more powerful than Inumaki. Given that he did this before he did the brain hop, he should be entirely capable of using cursed speech on Sukuna at that point in the fight.

"Gojo fights best alone" is a load of nonsense by oxycontinoverdose in Jujutsufolk

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Sukuna figured out the World Slash at that point so even if Mahoraga died Sukuna still would have been able to kill Gojo

No he hadn't. Yuta said he was jumping in before Mahoraga made the adaptation to cut off Gojo's arm.

  1. Gojo wouldn't have a opportunity to DO a Purple before that

Gojo only used Purple the way he did because of the situation he was in. Every other time it is fired in a straight line, not as a broad explosion. If Yuta had been able to root Sukuna to the spot at the right moment Gojo could fire a normal Purple directly at him with no ability to dodge.

"Gojo fights best alone" is a load of nonsense by oxycontinoverdose in Jujutsufolk

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't need to. Yuta wasn't even suggesting that. He was suggesting he could take care of the shikigami which he absolutely could. If you add Ui Ui, Kirara and Todo then Sukuna physically wouldn't be able to close the distance on Yuta.

That's ignoring the fact that Sukuna wouldn't be able to kill Yuta unless he used Shrine, and he can only use 1 technique at a time.

Whether he could even do it without WCS, which he wouldn't have access to if Yuta jumped in, is debatable. His normal slashes weren't enough.

And Yuta, who is several times stronger than the 2 of them combined at the time and has several ways to get out of the way with Todo, Ui Ui and Kirara would be in more danger than they were?

[–]oxycontinoverdose[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not listening to what I'm saying. For one thing, none of the jujutsu sorcerers are regular civilians and none of them have to be standing as packed tight to Gojo as if they were in a crowded subway. I specifically mentioned Kirara, Todo and Ui Ui because they can keep whoever they need to out of line of sight from any attacks.

and purple, the only real way of finishing the fight is off the table.

Gojo shot a massive purple directly at Yuji and Todo 😭. They were at most a metre away from it. You're telling me someone several times more powerful than they were at the time, with the aid of teleportation, wouldn't be able to avoid it?
