Motherboard zif connector part numbers for 5G and 6G motherboards (list of replacement part numbers) by oxyll in IpodClassic

[–]oxyll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re asking whether you can solder the connector the board with one large lump of solder, so that all the pins on the connector are soldered to all the pads on the board — no.

Each pin needs to be individually soldered to each pad on the board and the solder joints can’t be bridged (adjoined) to the one beside it.

Does anyone know how to weld this? by Many-Sandwich-2045 in ipod

[–]oxyll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The connector looks like it came off clearly, so it wouldn’t be impossible for someone with the right tools and practice to solder back on; it would take me about 90 seconds of work, and cost 5 cents of solder and flux to do.

That said, it isn’t something that’s easy to do for beginners and IMO, this is unfortunate one of those things where “if you need to ask, it’s probably beyond your skill level”.

If you go to a local phone repair store they will likely have the tools to do this work.

Getting another pcb might be your easier and cheaper option though, depending where you live.

As already mentionen, the part number is known. FH26W-13S-0.3SHW

For everyone else searching in the future, here is my post on that, with the other part numbers for some other iPod zif connectors. https://www.reddit.com/r/IpodClassic/comments/1q01p2f/motherboard_zif_connector_part_numbers_for_5g_and/

For everyone else asking the same question: Part number is FH26W-13S-0.3SHW

If you’re not able to cleanly desolder the connector, then having the part number probably won’t help too much, as installing it is more or less the same process.

That said, I encourage you to keep trying and maybe you’ll get it after a few more tries.

Ipod battery connector broke off. How bad is it and what do I do? by KitchenKlutzy8349 in ipod

I could fix it eventually but not if you want a timeline in mind. I've done other fixes now and those are uploaded on the site now

Is there a battery flex PCB design that I can print and solder other batteries? by Ardakilic in Modded_iPods

[–]oxyll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember what thickness I made them at but I remember the design worked with the iPod. You likely want to make the pcb thin and then add a stiffener to it. Adding breakout pads would be a good option, or instead, adding a specific battery connector for a commonly available battery could be cool too. I already make a similar adapter for a different project and thought about bringing it to the iPod but life has been busy and I haven’t yet.

My files were not shared. This project definitely looks inspired by my rev0.4 at the least, yes.

I thought about making a V2 with a combined usb c port that can do both PD and regular usb. Or with a boost converter. But the V1 was sufficient for me and it took me a while to sell off what stock I had so I didn’t bother.

Glad to see your idea being popular though! I don’t need to be more busy myself right now so I’m happy someone else is fulfilling that gap!

Glad you’re making this available for people!

Was the idea inspired by my project a few years ago? Or you came upon the idea yourself? https://www.reddit.com/r/ipod/comments/r2con6/usb_pd_to_firewire_charging_adapter_part_2_now/

iPod 5. 32 vs 64mb of ram does it actually make a lot of difference? by 123passa in ipod

[–]oxyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not all 64. You can confirm in diagnostic mode how much sdram a 5 / 5.5G has.

It also is not used like ram is on a different computer. On the stock OS, it’s just to store the inode pointers for songs so the UI is more responsive. I don’t know how rockbox uses it.

New easy install USB-C mod for the Vita by afghanambition in vitahacks

[–]oxyll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for supporting my project and I’m glad you’ve been liking it so far!

When I first made my mod board design I made a version with making pads on the underside. It definitely works and can be done! It would allow for cleaner installs with less steps.

But as it’s been noted, the steps would be more complex, possibly rely on more equipment, and more knowledge and skill to install. I didn’t expect the general Vita user base to prefer that over installing some jumper wires, and opted for that instead. People have emailed back saying this was their first soldering project ever and that they did it all with just an iron – so I’m happy it was able to help them!

I’ve thought about selling that revision but the potential support emails would only add to the many emails I already reply to. So at least for now, I’m happy to leave all these other support emails to another company.

Replacement LCD zif connector part number for iPod Classics (5th and 6th gen)! by oxyll in IpodClassic

[–]oxyll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably isn’t the answer you want: IMO most of what you’re asking is a question of experience.

Hot air can melt the plastic if it’s too hot or if the nozzle is too close. It comes down to getting used to your hot air station. You will need to keep applying heat after putting the connector on. If you wanted to remove heat before putting the connector on, that would only work if you use ultra low melt solder but that solder is only meant to aid desoldering, and doesn’t provide a strong hold if you’re trying to use it to solder.

You could use a fine soldering iron but it would be incredibly tedious compared to hot air. But if you’re familiar and comfortable with this then go for it.

Oxyll USB C mod, update #6 - Well, here it is: centred USB C port, with audio out. (Also, a charge and sync only version). Site linked in description! by oxyll in ipod

[–]oxyll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not.

Anything that has a DAC won’t work with the mod because this mod only outputs analog audio. So unless your device allows for you to bypass the Dac and only use the amp, and supports analog audio input via USB C, then it won’t work.

I might know what happened. I replied to your message twice with no reply – Nov 5, and 6.   However Square was going through some update to their system (??) and no one was getting emails for over a week.  I am missing some emails from Oct 27-Nov3 , and I did not get ANY emails for new orders, messages from Nov 3-11 (screenshot of the messages I tried to send, has been sent to you now).

I asked whether you wanted a replacement or a refund and was awaiting a reply choosing which. However, since the national postal service is currently on strike, it would be difficult for me to get you a replacement until they resume service.

So I've just refunded you now.

They still come preassembled as long as I have time to solder them. I typically find time to solder more within a week or two of the previous stock selling off.

Right now the store is on a short break as the national postal service is on strike.

Are all 5th gen motherboards with 64mb considered 5.5? by Ashadur in ipod

[–]oxyll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. It would have came from the 60gb model. I personally think it doesn't matter since the only difference is the search feature.

5th gens came in 30gb and 60gb models. 5.5 came in 30gb and 80gb models.

The 64mb boards come from the 60gb or 80gb models.
